In this book , elementary school teacher Hector Viveros Lee celebrates the joy of sharing and power of the imagination as a young boy gives away an eclectic array of creatures. The best of all is the surprise that's left when the box of crackers is empty! An imaginative boy opens a box of animal crackers and gives his family members a hippopotamus, anaconda, rhinoceros, and other exotic animals. ‘I Had a Hippopotamus’, By Hector Viveros Lee

This book tells the story of a little boy who has pets ranging from a hippopotamus to a pangolin, jaguar, crocodile, anaconda and even an elephant. All of which he gives to his family members, neighbour and school teacher. He eventually ends up with a naughty little kitten who he decides to keep!

This is one children's book that I did not enjoy very much. While reading it I couldn't connect with it and the ending didn't make sense to me or didn't connect with the beginning in my opinion. But, that doesn't mean a student in my classroom won't enjoy it!

LOL this book is funny...
The kid gives all the dangerous animals to it's family/extended family the animals which seem to be more dangerous and keeps the lovely kitten to himself in the end. How amusing.
