A poor Mexican immigrant tells of his college years in this "Dear American Diary" type book. It stands alone even though it is the 3rd in the "series"; while I would find it interesting to know what happened in the first two, I have not rushed right out to put them on hold. Has a pretty strong religious orientation to it because he goes to Jesuit school, but never feels preachy or didactic. Could be a good encouragement for poor/immigrant kids to pursue a higher education.
So many of his experiences resonated with my challenges of going "away" to college. I cried in many chapters of this book. It was breath taking, how someone can put into words the emotions that a first generation college kid can experience during this transitional period. I also read it in Spanish and the language is like a song.
Actually I'm reading the English edition, but I can't find that version on Goodreads ...
