I really like Camilla Lackberg and was looking forward to sitting down with this book. I feel now, I am revisiting old friends and dropping in on how their lives are progressing. Patrik and Erica are six weeks away from their wedding, which Erica has done little to organise since her sister Anna and her children have come to stay with her and Patrik. Anna is in a bad depression since the death of her abusive husband and Erica is worried about her and taking care of Anna's children and her own 8-

The Gallows Bird is the fourth of Camilla Läckberg’s series of crime novels, set in and around in the small town of Fjällbacka on the Swedish Coast.
It’s a series that I have grown to love, without understanding quite why, and while thinking that, maybe, I shouldn’t love it as much as I did.
Now though I have sorted things out in my head.

Not great. Tedious and wordy and long-winded, and none too believable. Disappointing. Even the translation irritated me, but perhaps it's the fault of the original. The dialogue was stilted, and often boring, with way too much exposition that sounded unnatural. And I know it's picky, but I figure if both author and editor miss repetitions like this, ".. but Erica saw it all too well. She knew all too well ..." then the book is carelessly written. I think fellow Scandinavian Karin Fossu

I had a bit of a challenge getting this book, but it was worth the wait. Without giving any spoilers away if you're paying attention, or have a crime driven mind, you can see who is guilty in this book. I actually liked that. I've only been able to pick out the killer in this book and the one before it (The Stonecutter), so I was pretty proud.
This book is written in the same tone as her others (not a lot of violence, not a lot of ridiculous car chases etc.) If you haven't read any o More...

Was fand ich gut:
- die Schreibweise
- die Geschichten der Personen
- die eigentliche Kriminalstory und ihre Originalität
- den Titel, von dem ich mich lange gefragt hatte was damit gemeint war und am Ende war es mir klar - eine gute + clevere Übersetzung in diesem Fall, das kann man ruhig mal lobend hervorheben
Was fand ich eher nicht so gut:

I liked this tale as it was quite clever in concealing the identity of the killer while providing clues to the characters of various secondary players. I loved the way the everyday lives of the police were woven into the story to show that the workday was hardly representative of their "real" lives. This author seems very good at providing a context for her detective thrillers, rather than merely reporting details of cases and courtrooms.

I thought this book was great - the best of the Patrik Hedstrom novels since 'The Ice Princess'. It's suspenseful, and the character development is great. I initially thought there would be more of a story involving Anna and Lucas, but I'm glad there wasn't. I really enjoyed this book - and like her other titles, it could stand alone and works well as part of a series. I'm eagerly awaiting the next in the series!

What a great find! A very good novel even though I came into this series about three books in. One thing that I found a bit disconcerting is that the author has multiple points of view separated only by a double space. Once I came to expect that, it wasn't an issue. Really good writing. Transcends the genre.

Not much I can say about this one that I haven't said about the other books in this series - I love Lackberg's characters and although this has been one of my least favourite of her novels so far it still kept me gripped right the way through and I finished it in one day sitting by the pool. And what more do you need from a Scandinavian crime story than that?! I hope they hurry up and translate some more of these into English because I only have one left to read now...

Another gripping murder mystery from this author. What she does well is show how people are altered by their pasts, often in tragic ways. Some of the characters end up able to reconcile their pasts and save themselves; others give in to the evil inside. At times uncomfortable but always intriguing.

Shocking but compared to her other books less so. It was nice seeing a deeper plunge into the lives of the less important characters.

No wonder the author writes about her home town but lives else where - there are nearly as many murders as in an english Midsommer town!!!

Despite reading reviews that said this book wasn't up to the usual par of Ms. Lackberg, I couldn't read it fast enough. Another page turner.

I liked the first 3 but this one was just boring.. I don't know why but it became tedious reading about the same characters.

This is the second book by Lackberg I have read and i really like her writing style and how she tells a mystery story. The police investigation, the suspects' lives and the private lives of the police personnel mingle from one moment till the next until all becomes clear in the end and the case is resolved. Lackberg knows how to build the story, step by step, in order to keep the reader interested and wanting more.

Interesting, but in this case I had suspicions from the beginning. The strange food really distracts me from the story.

"The Gallows Bird (Patrik Hedstrom 4)","Camilla Lackberg".
"Lackberg is another Scandinavian writer becoming known for her mystery series set in Sweden. This was a decent enough story, but nothing special."

I have been searching high and low for Camilla Lackberg's fourth book and it did not disappoint. I love format Ms. Lackberg follows in all her novels, both the crime scene stories and the back story of Erica and Patrick. This crime scene story as usual had me guessing until the very end; and even than I was shocked with the conclusion. Wonderfully written and created to keep readers on their toes. I cannot wait to read the 5th!

Another good Swedish mystery, though for some reason, I smelled a rat early on in the book, and that kinda spoiled the surprise for me in the end. Had not been able to find The Stone Cutter (#3 in the series), so had to skip through a bit of missing information in terms of character development, but thankfully that did not detract too much from the main story (which tends to be independent anyways).

Another stunning crime novel from a Swedish author who is new to me. In Tanumshede a woman is found dead in her car - presumably a drunk driving accident. But not everything is that simple and when another body is found in wheelie bin detective Patrik Hedstrom and his colleagues are faced with a devilishly clever murderer.
I will certainly being buying more of her books.
