The first thjing I noticed about this book was the sticker placed on the cover, presumabl;y by the booksellers, saying "If you like Jo Nesbo you'll love this." And the books by Jo Nesbo have stickers saying "The next Stieg L:arsson". I'm not sure what these cvomparisons are supposed to achieve, except that Jo Nesbo's writing has recently come to look like a rather ineffectual attempt to imitate Stieg Larsson. But Lackberg has so far not tried to imitate either. Other than bei

Stenhuggeren (The stone carver) is the third book in the Läckberg series about murder (and mysterious) cases in Fjällbacka, a sleepy town in Sweden. The first two books, Isprinsessen (The Ice princess) and Prædikanten (The preacher) have already introduced local policeman Patrik Hedström and his girlfriend Erica Falck as "mystery solvers" in town and the same rule goes also for the this book.
This time, Hedström had to deal with a child murderer after a body of nine-year old More...

Another great book from Camilla Lackberg, the third I have read in the Patrik Hedstrom/Erica Falck series. Erica has just had her first baby and is finding it difficult to adjust to becoming a mother. She has made an new friend, another mother of her own age called Charlotte. The body of a young girl is found by a fisherman checking his lobster-pots and Patrik is called to the scene, of what appears to be an accidental drowning. To his horror, he realizes that this is Charlottes young daughter,

Patrik Hedström and his partner Erica Falck have a 2 month old daughter Maya and neither of them are getting much rest. Patrik at least gets to escape to office but Erica feels trapped, especially with Patrik’s judgemental and domineering mother staying. Her friend Charlotte is concerned about post-natal depression. But then Charlotte’s world falls apart when her own eight year-old daughter is found dead. At first she is thought to have drowned accidentally but then evidence appears to indicate

This is my favourite of her books so far. It's the third in English- I believe she has 7 in Swedish- and only 4 of them are in English yet (in order- The Ice Princess, The Preacher, The Stonecutter, The Gallows Bird).
This book focuses on a present day murder, with glimpses of a relevant past. Because I've read her other books I knew what to expect going into this one. If your bag is action packed chases, or full pages of details about the autopsy, or even if your bag is a thinly veil More...

The Stonecutter turned out to be such a tiresome read for me. It feels like the author tried to cover so many grounds in her book till she losed focus and failed to emphasis more on the thing that suppose to matter most: the mystery and the routes to solve it.
The main thing that can be found in The Stonecutter is the neverending emotional outburst mostly from the female characters. To read about their endless self-pity where they blame others for difficulties that they have to face More...

I thought this book was great, and I love watching the progression of her characters. This was a little darker than her first two books, but that probably comes with the child-murderer territory. There were several new faces introduced and a lot of plotlines, but I thought this was a good thriller and an intriguing mystery. Her books are well-written, and can stand alone if you're not up for a series.

After the Girl with a Dragon Tattoo, there's a rash of Scandinavian authors. This is another thriller with a murder to solve, although no brilliant characters like Lisbeth in this one. Patric, the main investigator is a likable character, but he's about the only one. The rest is made up of dysfunctional families with someone abusing someone else - no normal family unit in the whole book. It was somewhat obvious who'd done the murder, but I still read on, just to check. Like Stig Larsson's Millen

This is the third book in the Erica Falck/Patrik Hedstom series. Personally, Patrik has become a father and Erica is suffering some form of postnatal depression. In his professional sphere a girl is found drowned in the river and she is the daughter of Erica's friend. In addition to this storyline there is, interwoven, the story of Agnes told beginning in the early 1920s. It is not clear until a lot later in the book (for me almost at the end) what relevance this has on the modern day story.

This is the third of Scandinavian crime writer Camilla Lackberg’s six #1 best-selling novels in Sweden. She definitely pulled me in again, right from the beginning.
Recurring characters Patrick Hedstrom and his girlfriend, Erica, now have a daughter, Maja, and Erica is dealing with motherhood less than successfully. When the young daughter of one of Erica’s friends is found apparently drowned, the mystery begins. Well, one of the mysteries, that is. Those who have read others by Lack More...

I loved this book, it felt like meeting again old friends: Erika and Patrik, Martin and the other colleagues... I found Lackberg's writing very flowing, and I felt involved in all sub-plots and in the life of all characters presented. Moreover, the characters felt real, with good sides and bad sides (probably apart from Agnes).
More than merely crime stories, Lackberg's books offer a slice of life in a Swedish small town (which, by the way, doesn't seem to be that heaven that we in Italy ar More...

I think this is one of the rare crime books I've read that my focus wasn't on who the killer was.The depth of the characters and the thorough psychological analysis gave a singural feeling to this book.In my opinion it portays greatly how important the family is in the growing process of a human and how much it can destroy a person. The story that was about the past although few pages each time succeded in making you realise the burden that 3 generations carried.I wasn't sure about the killer unt

This is the third Camilla Lackberg book I've read and for once, I'm reading a series in order. Although the premise of the book is about the murder of seven year old Sara, it delves deeply into dysfunctional families over a long period of time. History repeats itself.
Lackberg's characters are average people caught up in troubled times. There are no superstar detectives in her books, just police officers going through the process. Yes, they do make mistakes. But that's reality and More...

I will probably debate the 4th star for a while, because this is truly on the edge of one. It was an enjoyable read, if so many deaths and evil deeds can be called enjoyable. However, to quote an amazon.com review: "What readers get instead is a meticulously-detailed plot with lots of twists and different story arcs, all weaved together in a fine example of story-telling." I also think that most of the characters are well developed, though have my doubts about the use of internal point

My favorite of the three I have read! The storyline is much tighter, much more urgent and kept you guessing right up to the very end as "who did it". I really love the storyline from the 1920s slowly meshing with the current day story. There were a few characters introduced that only had one chapter and they probably didn't need to be in there...maybe they were supposed to be the red herring? Either way, I look forward to reading the next one. Each of her books has a huge cliffhanger t

Very easy reading, if you can avoid thinking too hard about all the murders and other cruelty and stuff, but not mindless by any means. Very focused on parent-child relationships. Quite a lot of talk about evil people - but this is a bit misleading as it's more evil emerging out of evil done to people rather than people being evil in themselves. Or maybe I'm just putting my own thoughts into it. Anyway I liked all the different strands of story. Must have liked it because after I finished this b

It made a refreshing change to find a detective who was not divorced, jaded or alcoholic. The cutting depictions of relationships and personalities within small, relatively closed communities rang true. Although the alternative chapters told an interesting story, I did find it annoying at times and after a while, read each timeline in chunks. The language at times moved haltingly - possibly a translation issue.

This is a great read. This is the third book in a series set in Sweden. I like getting to know Patrick and Erica and all their cohorts. The mystery in this story involves the murder of a 7 yr old girl. As with the other books you are drawn in from the beginning. If you enjoy a good mystery and have no need for gore these are the books for you. The characters are engaging as are the stories.

This is the first book I have read by this author. The style, pace and characterisation were superb, but I did find the end disappointing. It was easy to deduce the murderer and I was not convinced by the psychology behind the psychopathic tendencies of some of the characters. The book did dissect parenting, both good and bad, and was spot on over the difficulties of looking after a newborn.

While this book isn't as good as the other three (I had read #1, #2 and #4 in the series so far), I still found it a reasonable mystery novel. The interspersed stories got me wondering early on, but as many others have pointed out, the ending isn't quite so unpredictable. At the end of the book, I was just sorry that there aren't any more English books by Camilla Lackberg for now.

What I learned from this book is that I will be giving this author a miss from now on.
I really enjoyed The Ice Princess but found The Preacher disappointing although I chalked that up to second book syndrome and so decided that I would read the third book in the series.
This book never grabbed me, the characters were completely unsympathetic and the murderer was obvious.

I didn't really enjoy this book. A very cliched crime novel that had very little in the way of excitement, and a very long drawn out process of finding the perpetrator. I found myself "skim" reading a vast number of pages and was pleased to finally reach the end. I knew "who did it" before the book was halfway through

This was my first read of Camilla's work. I enjoy her style although it took a little while for me to warm to it. I like the geographical setting of the story and found the linking of old with current events very entertaining, a tactic which makes the reader desire to press on. I will definitely read more of her.

The Stone-Cutter is the third book in the series with Detective Patrik Hedstom investigating the drowning of a small child. The detective is torn between his loyalties to his partner and their new baby and the complexities of the case. As with her other two books the mood is quite dark with some very unsavoury characters.
