This Book is Not Good for You is the third book in the Secret Series. The book takes place in an unnamed city and state. In the middle of the book Cass’ mother is kidnapped. To save her Cass, Max-Ernest, and Yo Yogi must travel to Wild World, a zoo in yet another unnamed city, to save Cass’ mom. Bosch does a great job of keeping his readers interested. He describes the setting very well. As the characters traveled through the zoo I really felt as if I was there with them. In the action parts of the book I felt my heart start beating a little bit faster because of all the great detail. Bosch keeps his readers interested with all the twists and turns as the story goes on. He speaks to his readers in the book. He also defines strange words he has included.
I though that this book was great. This book had me from the cover. The way Bosch entices you in just by the title is amazing. He adds just the right amount of mystery to make you just about die to crack the cover and read. Just as a good book should it started out good and finished even better. I really enjoy reading Bosch’s works. In his books he speaks to his readers directly. There is humor everywhere in his books. You almost fell as if he is an old friend by the time you finish reading. He makes the character in his books seem like real people.
I would recommend this book to people. I think that people who enjoy humor, mystery, and adventure will really enjoy Bosch’s books. I honestly think that even if you don’t enjoy any of those genres you will end up loving his books anyway. If anyone can make you change your mind about those three genres it would be Pseudonymous Bosch.(less)

The Pseudonymous Bosch books are somewhat, but not hugely, popular in my school library. I borrowed the 3rd book and read it on my Kindle, to see what the book is about and who I want to recommend it to.

Turning point because the story entered a darker atmosphere and theme by the end of the book. Well I think this Book 3 is also a turning point in the story in some ways. There was a lot of action and new revelations in the story.

Let us first start with the theme of this book. If you have read the previous 2 books we all know that Alchemy is involved. With this part 3, Aztec alchemy is involved. And what better medium to use other than food. Food in the form of Chocolate. YES! Chocolate. That what made me happy about this book. It made me hungry or crave for chocolate even more. Such a delicious book to read :D Even though the chocolate is what the bad guys, Ms. Mauvais and others used in their new evil plot.

Second thing to like about this book is that we can see more character development, specially with out protagonist Cass. She and Max-Earnest and Yo-Yoji is somewhat mature more in their actions, decisions and thinking in this book. They are able to think more rationally and logically now.

There are also more thinking in this book. Lots of situations happened in the book and it all required a little bit of researching and critical thinking. Which is a good thing because it makes the story a little bit more complicated. But even with all that happening it is still easy to understand.

The author is much more witty and funny too. Lots of side comments here and there again and also some unique presentation with some of the pages. Like starting of with Chapter 15, using invisible ink, and other stuff. these made me realize that I am an adult reading children's book. And I dont regret anything :D

Lastly, this book has the best ending so far in comparison to the previous 2 installments. With the predecessors, we were left with nothing as to what will be the next adventure. For this book we can expect which way Book 4 will go to. So all in all the story was wrapped in a good way but still opened new doors for it to continue

Once again the Secret Series did not fail to deliver. This book was a great read. Pseudonymous Bosch has a funny way of placing chapters out of order. The first chapter is actually chapter fifteen (I think.) This is interesting because it is like watching one of those movies where they start out with the climax and you get really intrigued, but then it goes back to the beginning and explains how they got to that climactic moment.

I have not read the first two books, but I picked up this one because it was the most recent…and—ok-- I really didn’t realize it was a series. So, starting off with that deficiency, I still had no difficulty getting into the book. The Midnight Sun, the enemy, is trying to figure out a Secret that the Terces Society is trying to prevent them from getting. She enlists the aid of her friends and fellow Terces Society members, Max-Ernest and Yo-Yoji, the search for clues in her grandfathers’ rummage since she knows she had been left in a box on their doorstep. The two men found a mother for her as a baby and became her “grandfathers” as part of that deed. Cass believes if she can find that box, she can find the clues she needs to learn her identity.
In this book, Cassandra begins to realize that the Secret and her secret may be entwined. Then Cassandra’s mother disappears and Cass receives a ransom note requiring her to find a “tuning fork” to get her back. Once again, even though she is told not to divulge the ransom information, Cass must depend upon her two friends to rescue her mother. Throw in lots of information about chocolate and that’s a start on where this plot will lead.
Bosch’s books are quite popular with my students—one reason I haven’t read them until now. The author addresses the readers personally in much the same style as Lemony Snicket and employs footnotes for explanations of terms used in the narrative. There is also some sly humor in the narrative and some printing devices used, such as some pages with only a few letters per page because disappearing ink spilled on the pages. I suspect that Bosch’s books are for a slightly more sophisticated reader than Snicket’s.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and will most likely start with book one in the series.

This Book is Not Good For You starts out with our main protagonist, Cass, and the revelation that her mother is not her actually Mom, and that she was left on the doorstep of her step-grandfathers' antique shop. Adopted, if you will. That leads us to all sort of trouble, since it was the reason her mother ( or is she her mother? Quite confusing, really ) took a cooking class with Cass to help them bond better. They come across Senor Hugo, a man known for his amazing cooking skills, even though he is blind. When Cass mentions the Tuning Fork ( an item that becomes quite important ) Hugo asks them to come to his fancy restaurant, which is completely dark so your senses sharpen, as he says.

Long story short, Cass's mother is kidnapped, and Cass wants to save her. Much simpler.

This book is all about chocolate. And since I am a huge chocolate lover, I enjoyed this novel, and trust me, it is better to read it while eating chocolate yourself. The copy I read has a few chocolate stains to prove it. The Appendix was a nice touch on all things chocolate, so I saved a few recipes from there for future reference.

The plot of the novel itself was cool. How the author worked with it was also very nice, and it was definitely an interesting read. Our new character, Simone, was a very charming lass. I would love to see more of her in future books, somehow. Although I have a gut feeling this is the only time we are going to see her.

The only part of the novel that slightly peeved me was Cass. Her whole personality is just, somehow, not the same. And that change is not a great one. I cannot even back myself up here, it is just her overall attitude, and the feeling that tells me, if I met such a girl somewhere on the street I probably would not start a conversation with her. Maybe I am being unfair. Perhaps I am.

I always thought of Pseudonymous Bosch as not just an author, but also a character and part of the story. I feel that his character also grew, and he matured with Cass, Max-Ernest, and Yo-Yoji, if that is even possible. I actually like him better now.

Cassandra is a really a cheerful girl who wants to chllenge herself more, and more. On this mission she, and Yo-yoji accidently eat the chocolate which makes them turn weird. I thought this was a cruel book because the evil, and magnificent cook Hugo was in this story. He had made the chocolate that made cassandra, and Yo-Yoji really strange. Hugo also, was lying to the people around him, and making them trust him that he was blind. However, he was only blind on the left eye, and the right eye was working just fine. This made Cassandra more worried if their plan was going to work. Not even knowing that Yo-Yoji had half turned into a samurai, and that Hugo was almost going to hurt her by throwing real throwing knives. After Hugo did the trick of his throwing knife at Cassandra Yo-Yoji arrived with a cobra that slithered after the scared Hugo who gave up, and handed them the Tuning fork.

I'm not really sure how a person could possibly not love this book. For one, it's about secret spy kids. For another, it's awesome and hilarious. And finally (as if that weren't enough), it's about chocolate. Need I say more?

I liked the third Pseudonymous Bosch book better than the second one and not as much as the first one--so goin gin the right direction, at least. THis book adds a third character, and that is a good addition. He adds another dimension to the group, and has additional skills. Cass' mom becomes inevitably wrapped up in the story this time, and we learn a little bit more of the underlying story as well, so good as a series goes to have some gradual coming to light of the theme--not always the case...more

The third in a series I've been reading to the boys for bedtime, Trevor gave it 3.5 stars and Warren gave it 3. I enjoyed the supertaster aspect of this one, as well as the part that chocolate played. So I picked this book up because it looked fun, and halfway through I realize it is book 3 of a series. I was convinced Lemony Snicket had created another pseudonym to write this series, but wikipedia (which is never wrong) says it is someone else. Book Hoarder here. So now were in for the 3rd review of the Secret Series. Now that I am in the middle of the story I can confidently say that my money is wasted in buying this book series. Remember when J.K. Rowling published Goblet of Fire and everyone considers it a turning point of the story. Book Hoarder here. So now were in for the 3rd review of the Secret Series. Now that I am in the middle of the story I can confidently say that my money is wasted in buying this book series. Remember when J.K. Rowling published Goblet of Fire and everyone considers it a turning point of the story. Turning point because the story entered a darker atmosphere and theme by the end of the book. Well I think this Book 3 is also a turning point in the story in some ways. There was a lot of action and new revelations in the story.

Let us first start with the theme of this book. If you have read the previous 2 books we all know that Alchemy is involved. With this part 3, Aztec alchemy is involved. And what better medium to use other than food. Food in the form of Chocolate. YES! Chocolate. That what made me happy about this book. It made me hungry or crave for chocolate even more. Such a delicious book to read :D Even though the chocolate is what the bad guys, Ms. Mauvais and others used in their new evil plot.

Second thing to like about this book is that we can see more character development, specially with out protagonist Cass. She and Max-Earnest and Yo-Yoji is somewhat mature more in their actions, decisions and thinking in this book. They are able to think more rationally and logically now.

There are also more thinking in this book. Lots of situations happened in the book and it all required a little bit of researching and critical thinking. Which is a good thing because it makes the story a little bit more complicated. But even with all that happening it is still easy to understand.

The author is much more witty and funny too. Lots of side comments here and there again and also some unique presentation with some of the pages. Like starting of with Chapter 15, using invisible ink, and other stuff. these made me realize that I am an adult reading children's book. And I dont regret anything :D

Lastly, this book has the best ending so far in comparison to the previous 2 installments. With the predecessors, we were left with nothing as to what will be the next adventure. For this book we can expect which way Book 4 will go to. So all in all the story was wrapped in a good way but still opened new doors for it to continue (less)
