Wondering why you should purchase this book when there are other titles on the shelves written by much higher-caliber fighters? Well, Forrest Griffin is not as good-looking as those guys. He's not as smart as them. He's also not as athletically endowed. And let's face it, neither are you. Those other fighters are pretty much better than you in every way. But you can actual...more

No Remorse
I have read a few MMA books from fighters like Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, Randy Couture, and Matt Hughes. This was by far the best one. Very funny and informative on the not so talked about things in cage fighting or just life in general. Like who has shit their pants during a fight, how to pick-up women in bars, dirty street fighting techniques, dealing with groupies, all the diseases and dirty shit you can catch in a gym, etc. Only two bad parts in the book being Forrest saying one of his idol...more

Forrest Griffin has been one of my favorite MMA fighters since the day I fell in love with the sport. So when I found out he had written a book I jumped at the opportunity. Forrest Griffin is a certified “badass” on and off the ring. Not conforming to what is acceptable in the book world, Forrest writes what he wants to write.
“Got Game?” is the ultimate book for men, not just for fighters. The book goes in depth and takes you into the mindset of Forrest Griffin. From his earliest fight, which...more

Fear is a good thing because it keeps you alive,
but if if becomes so great that it hinders you from doing what you want,
you need to confront it head on.
- Forrest Griffin

Forrest Griffin is a Mixed Martial Arts fighter, a.k.a. a UFC Fighter...
And he's published his own book. How cool is that?!

Well, there are a few things that I learned about Mr. Griffin from his book, as early as the first page. Aside from being one of the top-ranked light-heavyweight MMA artists in the world...

If you enjoyed Real Men Don't Apologize, you'll love this one. Forget the King's English, these guys pull out all the stops for a slangy, dirty look inside Griffin's life and fight philosophy. In the second half, he does present some moves and techniques, a humorous 101 to MMA style fighting, but that isn't why you should get this book. If you are looking for deep and profound thoughts, again, don't bother. (I don't think jocks have profound thoughts.)

What you will get is a lot of stupidity, a l...more

Who Moved My Nose?...

No seriously, its a comedy!

Forrest Griffin's "Got Fight?" isn't just the next autobiograhy about an MMA fighter, ala Chuck Liddell, Tito Ortiz, Matt Hughes, Randy Couture & Jens Pulver. In fact, this book won't really tell you all that much about Griffin's life, but it will make you laugh and fill your mind with absurd stories that Forrest has actually lived through.

From Forrest's college days, to his dirty apartment where he played the movie "Good Will Hunting" on a...more

On Why this is Not Irony*

Book Review

This is possibly the second funniest book that will come out this year. I haven't read the funniest, but I'm guessing it is David Cross's book Why I Drink. I'm certain that this is funnier than Augusten Burrough's newest romp into his dysfunctional past, or Chuck Klosterman's milking of his generation X astuteness. Maybe it's because this book is so self-deprecating and that Forrest Griffin seems to have an active dislike for the same types of douche bags that...more

While I had no real idea what to expect when I first cracked this book open, it didn't take long to stumble upon the off-kilter sense of humor that UFC fans know as Forrest Griffin.

The thing that startled me, though, was that Forrest was actually imparting (what seems to be) sound fighting/conditioning/survival advice. In between one-liners and zingers about sex, he was imparting his views on how to break into the fight game, what to expect, and what to look out for. You also got a little more i...more

Funny. Loved it. Reminded me Tucker Max. Dick in the Box, Secret fighting techniques, and prefight sex--these stories are strewn throughout the whole book. It was easy to read. A page turner for me. Asian dart, how to cut weight, and hygiene horror stories were hilarious. If you like some MMA truism with a splattering of funny, than this is a must have. Don't just check out the book from the library and renew a million times. Spend the ducats and bring it everywhere you go. Next to the night sta...more

I'm a fan of MMA, so this was a "must read" for me. The writing is funny, but it is also a bit (ok, really, really) misogynistic and homophobic and just kind of "big dumb guy" stuff. I liked it and there were times when I laughed out loud, but it isn't for the sensitive and doesn't contain any "game plan" type of information. The book is made up of funny anecdotes, some common sense "fight tips," a few crude jokes, and what I hope is a little insight into the personality of one of MMA's toughest...more

It isn't literature, but I had picked it up looking for a partial biography of this fighter. It does have some interesting anecdotes and tips on fighting, but it is also peppered with juvenile humor, penis references, homoerotic references, and misogynistic jokes. Also the author tends to write from the perspective that his is a 'self-help' book. Even with the allowance that this could also be an 'in' joke, the reader is much more likely to be an MMA fan at some level than he is to be an aspirin...more

I really liked this book a lot. Like others have said it didn't focus on fighting or training but was a lot more about his life and this thoughts. There is so much humor spread throughout that you know each time you pick it up you'll get at least one good laugh. The one part I disliked was when he talked about beating up a "nerd" for an extended period of time. I know that portion of the book was there to teach a lesson (not that you should beat up nerds) but it just kept me thinking to myself t...more

Not bad! From reading this book, Forrest Griffin sounds like a shrewd, funny, and pretty decent character, although he's also about as crude, vulgar, non-PC, and sometimes sophomoric as they get - those latter traits might offend me more if my own sensibilities hadn't been warped by a lot of years in the military and then working in the prison system, both cultures where he'd fit right in.
Anyway, if he ends up fighting anywhere within a reasonable distance of where I live I'll go watch his matc...more

Forrest Griffin is clearly cracked in the head. As if his participation in MMA weren't a big enough clue to begin with (more so if you've ever seen the man fight), this book is an insight into a bit of that madness. What's surprising is how witty and amusing the man can be in the midst of a rather oddball mostly-autobiography. If you like Griffin or UFC, or if a book that starts with a "Manliness Quiz" and tells all who fail to put the book down and stop reading (but doesn't take itself too seri...more

I loved this book. It was hilarious. This one was a gift given to my husband and for some reason I decided to read it. I wasn't looking for fight advice, just something different to read.

I am glad I picked it up. Griffin has an irreverent way of looking at life that tickles the funny bone. Warning: many of his remarks are rude or sexist. (I found them outrageously funny.)

If you're looking for a light read that will make you laugh and make you think and teach you a little something about the lif...more

Who would have thought someone so ugly could put 3 words together?Let alone 3 intelligent words....consistently.
If the person reading this book can walk the thin line between "MMA is a barbaric spectacle of moronic brutes performed for moronic brutes" and "I like fighting because Budweiser is an all day event and I could be the next Light Heavyweight champ because I own 2 Tapout shirts and have watched UFC since way back in the beginning when Matt Hughes was the champ" then this book is actual...more

Many a moon have I followed Forrest's MMA career and scratched my head trying to understand what goes on in his head. Griffin was kind of an enigma to me - I'll tell you why. The guy fights like a dog inside the cage, projects this fun and humorous persona outside the cage, but when he loses a fight, he breaks down in hysteria on national television sobbing with tears of deep emotional pain. Shouldn't he be this "I don't care" kind of a tough S.O.B.? Why is he losing his cool in front of million...more

This is, without a doubt, one of the funniest books I've ever read. We're talking laugh out loud, regardless of where I am and who can hear me funny.

Forrest is an MMA fighter, and his bout with Stephan Bonner is what made myself, as well as a lot of other people, instant fans of the sport. Forrest isn't perhaps the best fighter in the UFC, even though he did win the light heavyweight championship at one point. But he does have a sort of everyman appeal. One the one hand, you can easily picture...more

Obviously I am not the primary demographic for this book so a lot of it (like the training techniques) was of little interest to me. But, despite (or perhaps because of) the blatant misogynistic and homophobic barbs and cursing throughout, I totally enjoyed this little bit of mind candy. I laughed a lot and even learned a little bit about the programming I am often forced to watch on Wednesdays when Spike TV only airs UFC fights and my husband controls the TV. Then again, I think I have the sens...more

"How to Fend Off a Sword Attack:

1. My attacker draws back his sword and swings it at me with all his might. Keeping my feet spread a shoulder's width apart, I open my hands in the direction of the blade.
2. I turn my face toward the advancing blade and slightly extend my arms.
3. I catch the hard steel in the web of my hands, thwarting the deadly strike.
4. Holding the sharp blade as tight as possible in my right hand, I render my opponent unconscious by delivering a savage knife strike to his thro...more

If you're a fan of low brow male chauvinist, poop and fart joke sophomoric humor (and who isn't?), this book is for you. If you are not a fan of poop or fart jokes, you are a liar, fart jokes are funny. Of course this book is more than sophomoric humor, it also gleans the nutty fellow that is Mr. Forrest Griffin, and what it took for him to become a championship level mixed martial arts fighter. Simply the very best martial arts theme book I have had the pleasure to sit down with.

Holy geeze this will make you laugh. Of course you need to be interested in one of the following: MMA, masculine identity issues, or insanity. He actually talks a bit about fighting technique almost a intro to MMA for aspiring fighters. I was much more interested in the guy, what makes up a dude that will get punched in the face for a living, push himself to extremes. When viewed from that perspective it almost becomes a self-help book, which typically i absolutely hate. But this has a sense of...more

I loved this book! My good friend brought this book to me while I was in the hospital after a bad car accident to help me "keep fighting." it did the trick and was the first thing that me laugh do hard it hurt.

I love MMA, but you don't have to be a fan to find it a good read as long as you have a sense of humor. The book is not just about fighting techniques but is also a hilarious autobiography. It's ridiculous and all in good fun.
Katie Cunningham
Definitely a book for dudes, especially for dudes who fight or like fighting. But even as a girl, I thought this book was pretty funny. Crude, raw, and downright nasty, but still funny. I probably like the book more, however, because I love UFC and adore Forrest Griffin's sheer stubborn will than for its literary merit.

I wonder how many points of his manliness he lost for running out of the octagon after Anderson Silva shut him down?

I start out with this line HOW TO FEND OFF A SWORD ATTACK.....
if ever there is a time when you need to fend off a sword attack you better have this book around and finally a guy that can fend off a sword attack :)) now the next sentences following that are First off, never bring a knife to a sword fight. That’s just plain stupid. A much better way to fight a guy with a sword is with your hands. i hope im not giving much away here but this book is worth the read and if i were a dude this would be...more

There a three things that a man should carry with him at all times. Humor, confidence and a sense of time, This book is the perfect example of all three. By no means is it a self help book, it is a dont get choked because you might pass out or shit yourself book. If you get queazy at the very mention of herpes and bloody injuries stay away!FAR AWAY! I loved it very smart and a quick read.

Got fight? by Forrest Griffin is a Book About his Lif and What he Learned to Become One of the Best MMA fighters today. Forrest shows his readers how life experiences got him where he is today. He Also tells about how he got interested In MMA and his young life before MMA. Forrest Shows his 50 Zen Principles of Hand-to-Face Combat. I Learned from Forrest that Hardwork Pays off.

This is one of my favorite books of all time. Forrest Griffin is my favorite UFC fighter, and his insight into the world of MMA is unparalleled. However, this is not a good book for children because of language and sexual situations. Forrest keeps you laughing throughout the book, and you can learn alot about his past, who he is today, and how to do some basic MMA moves.

Why I read It
It looked interesting on the new book shelf at my library. I quickly flipped through it and the self depreciating humor was quite funny so I picked it up.

The Good
If you want an accurate picture of what MMA fighting is about AND the type of mentality required to be successful at it, then this is the book for you. It is also very funny as the author doesn’t take himself too seriously. His detailed diagram on how to fend off a dog attack is worth the read alone.

The Bad

A fast, fun read that delivers a little bit of knowledge on the fight game as only Forrest can. Most of the technique are broken down in a way that will allow you to mentally grasp what's going on, but for the most part you're going to need a training partner. More interesting is the mentality behind the man, what drives Forrest to fight. Like most fighters, he seems to border on that affable guy/beast mode split personality. He's not quick to start a fight, but certainly won't complain if he fi...more
