I've never read anything by Jez Morrow before but the bold richness of this book will have me searching out more of Morrow's works. Set in old Scotland, the young aristocrat, David Blackleigh, sets out one night to murder the man who stole his inheritance. Little did David know that a band of brigands led by the charasmatic Connor Randell were laying in wait to also kill Lord Marsh. David is knocked off his hores after rashly shooting at Lord Marsh's carriage and comes to in the brigand's den i...more

I read up to page 60 but couldn't finish it. I really disliked the main characters and their relationship goes straight from "I'll tease you, but also protect you and teach you some stuff" to "I'm avoiding you" and then suddenly to "I've acted weird because you are too perfect and I adore you". I suppose that can work in a longer book or in a story where there are more moments of inner dialogue and careful description of their non-verbal interactions, but it's not the case here. The story just i...more

A short, quick read. It's not really a type or prose that I like, I get confused at the "frilly" descriptions and sort of antiquated speech. The speed with which the main character got horny for the obvious love/lust interest had me rolling my eyes, but I guess there's only so much detail and angst you can have in this number of words. It would not have suffered to have the story longer.

The details and bits about the wolves were interesting, though. The Falleen character, as most of the others,...more

By re-reading this story, I have to admit, I didn't enjoy reading it as in the past. This plot was undeveloped and even weird. The start was pulling. Young David comes into a contact with outlaws and falls in love with their leader Connor. All feelings David felt were seen and felt, but every other character was bland and cold. Even Connor was bland and undeveloped. And from the middle other characters other than Connor simple vanished and I really didn't like it. Even the sex between David and...more

I liked this story a lot. I loved Connor. I wish I could meet a 'Connor' like that that in real life. He was an alpha male with heart. I also think Davy was a n excellent mate for him . This is paranormal and historical with out getting bogged by too many details. I like for my male/male characters to read like men in a story not 'lily-livered weaklings' and Jez did not disappoint. Go read it, if you like your stories written like that!

This is the weakest book of Jez Morrow that I have read. But i don't do well with "historical" romances anyway so that may color my opinion. I liked Connor and Davy but you don't really get why the outlaws are the outlaws. Davy was a little dense, but hey, he was an aristocrat! It was an enjoyable short read, just not my favorite.
