I bought this study guide to help with my Gospel Doctrine reading this year. It contains actual Book of Mormon text interspersed with commentary by the author. It reads like the collected lessons of a long-term seminary/institute teacher. Which isn't to say it's bad--just a geared to those who may not be overly familiar with the Book of Mormon.

The constant commentary interrupted the flow of my reading, and was sometimes jarringingly unnecessary. Note the author's silly observation that More...

Since the onset of depression scripture study has been SO much harder than it was before. I have tried all sorts of different things, but due to the recommendation of a friend, Nicol, I tried this form of study. I LOVE IT! It has made all the difference in the world. I actually look forward to reading and don't feel like it's a chore anymore. After I finish the 3 that go in this series, I'm definitely getting the other sets.

Ridges has some nice insights and I appreciate his thoughts. But I am constantly annoyed by the formatting of this book. It would be much, much better if it were re-formatted. It can be confusing at times because Ridges puts his own thoughts right into the middle of the actual scriptural text. It's fine most of the time, but sometimes he takes long tangents and starts quoting other scriptures. Often, I want to skip his commentary unless I have a question, but the formatting makes it difficu More...

The author, a previous CES employee and seminary teacher, attempts to explain the entire Book of Mormon by printing the text and interrupting the reading to make sure the reader understands the history, relationships, doctrine or even definition of words that may be unfamiliar. Like his style and the easieness though takes much longer than the original Book of Mormon, for a study text it is great.

These books by David ridges are absolutley amazing. If you want to understand the scriptures better than you ever have, read his books. We have ALL the series, New Testament, Old Testament, Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants. These books are wonderful to read with the family, as daily scripture sudy or as a great reference guide.

For slow learners like me I loved this because it breaks down many verses of the book of mormon and basically lays it our for you.(which I need) I learned sooo much and it was like I was taking a class while I was reading these books. Wish all the commentary were in my personal book of mormon.

I use these books to supplement my scripture study and they are extremely helpful for me. The author helped write many of the BYU scripture study manuals. Each book contains every verse of the scriptures verbatim with side notes and insights to the scriptures being read. Awesome study guide!

This was a great book to read aloud with my family--commentary is included right along with the text of the Book of Mormon that explains difficult passages and historical context, as well as pointing out symbolism. It really helps to bring the scriptures to life.

This is a great series. Some of the incites from the author are a little redundant others profound. It must be from a small press because I have found several typos. Otherwise great. It helps you think about what you are reading.

This was my favorite book ever. I am learning so much reading and re-reading David Ridges set of 3 books and would highly recommend them to everyone who wants to make positive changes in their life. I've read this one twice now.

This book helped me to understand things I wasn't sure of. It had a lot of extras that went along with the Book of Morman. I can't wait to start the next book.

I love a lot of his insights. There were many things I ended up marking down in my scriptures such as cross references, quotes etc. The only thing I didn't like (and it got to be irritating at times) was that he sometimes gets very heavy handed on telling what words, phrases mean. Those not familiar with the scriptures might actually like that, but I am familiar enough that I don't need to be told what every little thing means. Otherwise it is an excellent resource.

This book is a wonderful all-in-one. Its format is like no other: The verses of scripture are in here, word-for-word, interspersed with wonderful insights and cross-references. It is the easiest way I have found to study and truly understand what I am reading in the Book of Mormon. I have had much more meaningful scripture study since I found this series! This book is easy to understand, flows well, and teaches much.

This is the best study help for the Book of Mormon that I have read. Absolutely true and faithful to the teachings of the LDS Church, and also amazingly insightful. I have gained so much from Brother Ridge's Book of Mormon commentary series, especially in my understanding of God's plan of happiness for us. Also, the Isaiah chapters finally make sense!

This book is great. I plan on buying all of his books for the rest of the BofM and for the Old/New Testament, PofGP, D&C . . . his historical and spiritual insights are so interesting. I feel like I'm sitting in a wonderful BYU religion class again. I am so greatful for the way this has enhanced and enlightened my study of the Book of Mormon!

I love this book so far! I have learned so much, and it clarifies things that I used to just skip over within the Book of Mormon. It is also cool because rather than having your scriptures AND a study guide (like Mormon Doctrine or something), all of the references are right there to read. Love it.

I like how these books have the actual scriptural text with the commentary so you don't have to keep going back and forth between your scriptures and the commentary. It also helps when reading scriptures with older kids who can read because it explains what difficult words and phrases mean.

I found this to be very helpfull. I wasn't a very good seminary student and have felt the loss of that opportunity to learn the scriptures better. This is a great way to accomplish those missed years of an informed seminary teacher and gain a deeper knowledge of the Book of Mormon.

So fabulous! Such great insight, especially through 2 Nephi as he is quoting a lot of Isaiah. It also gave some incredible explanation of the allegory of the olive tree in Jacob. This was like reading the book of Mormon from a different perspective and I've learned so much!

While the Book of Mormon isn't too complicated, I really enjoyed the insights of this book. This book is the actual text of the Book of Mormon along w/ commentary and historical information that I found very helpful. It makes scripture study very easy - almost too easy!

I am so in LOVE with these great and fabulous study guides for the scriptures. The author does such a fabulous job of helping out with understanding the scriptures verse by verse. I can't wait to get the rest of the series for the other standard works.
