I will admit that this book interested me because of the doodles on the cover and that it promised you would "Learn How to Make A Zine Inside!" Being all about cute illustration and zines I knew that this had to be a good time and I was definitely right.
While I'm far older than the intended audience for this book (elementary age) I could still appreciate the story and the accompanying doodles. Just Grace and the Snack Attack is the only book I've read out of the Just Grace series but it read fin...more

This is the fifth Just Grace book and the first one I've read. The nice thing about the book is that I didn't feel lost, so a reader could pick up any title and jump right in.
There are lots of illustrations, because Grace loves to draw, so the book would be great for readers who enjoy the Wimpy Kid books and are looking for other humorously illustrated books.

Just Grace and the Snack Attack is a super cute, super fast read! Grace is a young girl who has a lot of opinions. She really isn't a huge fan of Owen 1 and doesn't understand why he has to make fun of different types of food. One day after Owen 1 makes a fellow classmate cry, Grace's teacher is told by the principal to have a class on food cultures. It's through this project that Grace and friends learn more about different types of foods and the customs that go with them.

Grace's fear of frog dissection makes her welcome a substitute curriculum for the week--the class will study foods around the world because a classmate made a rude remark about another's lunch. Grace chooses chips around the world, but she becomes jealous when her father spends too much time helping her best friend Mimi learn about hot dogs around the world.
The book is filled with Grace's illustrations and they add a good deal of humor to the book. And while the book is all about her class lear...more

Grace's class has a new project - find out about unusual food around the world.
Grace decides to research potato chips. Grace finds herself a little jealous when her dad seems more interested in helping her best friend, Mimi, with her hot dog project than he does with Grace's potato chips. Grace also learns to make a zine, sneaks away to talk to her neighbor, and does something in class she never thought she'd do. Grace is in fo...more

My nine year old read this and said "Mom! This is a great book! You have to read it!"
She was right.
Grace is a fourth grader. She doesn't have much use for Owen 1 in her class. He's very annoying, disruptive in class, mean and chews his pencils like a beaver. Owen 1 makes classmate, Sunni, cry at lunch when he teases her about her strange lunch. He gets in trouble and the principal suggests the teacher teach a 'foods of the world' class. The result is an amusing, cute read.

I needed something light and fun...and Just Grace always fits the bill. In her latest book, she and her classmates are doing a project on snacks in different countries. She learns how to make a zine from her French neighbor (with instructions for the reader)and she might be warming up to another classmate, Owen 1. Grace's empathy powers are at work and her self-awareness and plentiful drawings are totally endearing.
As Grace and her classmates study foods from other cultures, she has the opportunity to ponder such mysteries as whether Owen 1 is really bad or not, why she feels jealous when her father helps her best friend with her hot dog report, and how Augustine Dupre, her family's French boarder, can be so wise

Oh how I love Just Grace - she is just so adorable.
In the latest installment, Harper gives us a more mature Grace, who is starting to come into her own. Her best friend Mimi has a secret: her parents are adopting a little girl. Grace spends the book trying to convince Mimi that she will make an excellent big sister.
If you have a little girl, Just Grace books must be on her shelf or checked out from the library. She really is that adorable.
