4 ½ stars – Romantic Suspense

This is a very taut, dark suspense thriller about an uber creeepy psychotic serial killer who tortures and murders women to harvest parts with the intent of creating the perfect woman. He makes the Bride of Frankenstein seem like a fairy tale in comparison.

Reporter Elise McBride is convinced that something horrible has happened to her free-spirited, artistic sister Ashley, who appears to have gone missing. When the police initially brush off her sister’s disappearanc...more

In the mood for an outstanding, ‘creeptastic’ romantic suspense? One that has a super hot romance between a smart and sexy heroine and a to-die-for hero, as well as an easy-to-follow plot, an utterly deranged serial killer, and an ending that will have you shouting and pumping your fists in the air like you’re watching an action thriller in a movie theater? Then run, run, and get a copy of Shannon K. Butcher’s latest--the thoroughly awesome and most satisfying romantic suspense that I’ve read al...more

Reading this was like being on a roller coaster ride. Wild! I couldn't put it down once I got started and if I did it was only for a moment, then I was back to it. Most of the book took place in a fictitious town (Haven, Illinois), and there were fairly frequent trips to Chicago which put the setting about 2 hours outside of the Windy City.

Two neat characters, Elise McBride, a freelance journalist, is the female heroine that enters the plot looking for her missing sister, Ashley. Trent Brady (A...more

Man, what a gruesome tale this story tales. It's so twisted and sick and enough to give you the creeps for days. The author did a great job with this romantic suspense, telling a full-bodied suspense story and managing to include a solid romance that didn't get shoved aside for the plot. This book was like a more romantic Karen Rose story and I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Summary:
Elise McBride and her sister Ashley grew up with an overprotective mother who didn't let them do much. Elise...more

Good guys are victims and suffer setbacks rather than being smart and outwitting the killer. Some parts were repetitive.

STORY BRIEF:
Elise is a freelance reporter who writes about needy causes as she travels the world. Ashley is her free-spirited artist sister. They talk on the phone regularly. When Ashley doesn’t return Elise’s phone calls, Elise leaves her Hong Kong project and goes to Ashley’s home in Illinois. She searches for clues. Trent is Ashley’s neighbor who helps Elise.

The killer has b...more

Overall, I enjoyed this new offering of Ms. Butchers. She writes solid, if not terribly original, romantic suspense. Love You to Death was creepier than her Delta force books because the reader is allowed inside the mind of a sick serial killer. Even though I am a big fan of the mystery/suspense genre, I don't want to be inside the mind of a serial killer, so it lessened the book's enjoyment for me.

Other than that, I have two quibbles with the book. First, Ms. Butcher falls into the common mista...more

International journalist Elise McBride flies from Hong Kong back to the Midwest deeply worried about her artist sister Ashley. Ashley and Elise share the same beautiful looks, but while Elise is practical and responsible, Ashley is creative and flighty. So flighty that the local police don't take Elise's missing person complaint seriously.

But Elise is able to convince Ashley's neighbor, ex-cop Trent Brady. Though Trent suffers from post traumatic stress, he has confidence in his investigative sk...more

When I started to read this one it seemed really familiar until I realized that I read a book similar by a different author, girl's sister is missing no one believes her and only she can find her, so I was prepared to not enjoy this one as much. Good think I was proved wrong. What really made this book so good and creepy at the same time was the bad guy. He is just your average Joe, with the exception of her perversions, which make you wish you could take a shower after every seen. Just when you...more

After spending too many years as an Industrial Engineer, Author Shannon K. Butcher learned to write from her husband, best-selling author Jim Butcher. Other titles include: No Control, No Regrets, and No Escape, (for which she won an award). She resides in Missouri with her husband and son.
Free-lance reporter, Elise McBride, hasn’t heard from her sister, Ashley, in more than a week. The artist side of Ashley often has her flighty and distracted in her own paintings, but this time, Elise knew so...more

There is a serial killer on the loose. This killer is unlike any others, who have come before him. He has a purpose. He wants to create the perfect woman. So how do you achieve the perfect woman…Or course by taking parts from various other women and piecing them together.

Elise McBride had a feeling that something had something horrible had happened to her sister, Ashley. She hadn’t heard from her in days. Elise called the authorities but Elisa got the impression that they aren’t taking her too s...more

Wow - can I just say that I thought this book was amazing. A wonderfully great romantic suspense and it delivers on both genres romance and suspense quite well.

Elise is a independent world-traveling reporter. No, she doesn't make a lot of money but she enjoys what she does. She doesn't have attachments now except for her flighty sister, Ashley. When Elise hasn't heard from Ashely in several days she gets worried. Worried enough to have Elise rushing to her sister's home from half-way across the...more

I started reading yesterday afternoon and finished it this morning. Oh yes I did! I stayed up all night reading it. What does that tell you? That is is a good book? Yes. The characters are interesting? Yes. Well developed? Yes. There are good romantic scenes? Yes, definitely! It is a good mystery? Yes. The story pulls you along? Yes. OK. We get it; it's a good book.

But....

But, what?

A part of me actually regrets reading this. My own fault really, Love You to Death by Shannon K. Butcher is contemporary romantic suspense, and I don’t do contemporary or suspense very well. But I like her paranormal Sentinel Wars and her contemporary Delta Force series well enough, so I figured I’d give one of her earlier one shots a try.

Its also surprising that I didn’t like this book all that much. It’s about a woman named Elise McBride who goes searching for her missing sister who was kidnap...more

Normally I adore Grand Central's romantic suspenses but this one was just not for me. The book seemed to consist of:

"You're not going to do look for your sister because it is dangerous."

"Yes I am!"

"No you're not!"

"Yes I am!"

"No you're not!"

"Yes I am!"

It got old fast.

I didn't particularly like the hero; he felt so sorry for himself. I don't mind angst, but this was "weak angst" and I didn't like it.

There were some parts so predictable where I literally started guessing the next words and even...more

Mrs. Butcher how I love your writing style. You had me engaged from page one. This book was so wonderfully creepy. This was a great romantic thriller.

The short of it is that Elise's baby sister has gone missing. Elise comes home to search for her. While she is breaking into her her sister Ashley's house she gets busted by her Ashley's hot lawn man neighbor Trent (yes lawn man, that is what Ashley referred to him as when she spoke with Elise). Trent is an ex-cop and has some issues of his own. Wh...more

Ashley McBride is extremely talented. She's an artist, that at any moment will stop what she is doing to paint or draw a picture. She's sweet, bubbly, and trusting. She's also a complete scatterbrains, and now that she's gone missing, her big sister Elise is starting to worry.

Ashley always calls Elisa after going out on Friday nights to give her all the juicy details of her evening. This time, she doesn't call, and Elise...more

Love You to Death is a really great book! One of the best parts about this suspenseful, romantic thriller is the progression of the drama…the story keeps getting better and better! The serial killer character is so fascinating and horrifying at the same time…what amazing writing! Shannon’s portrayal of the serial killer is so lifelike and believabl...more

I presume you know what the book is about. I'm letting you know what I liked or disliked about it.

A very good story. I liked the chemistry between Trent and Elise, was intrigued by the plot line as it unfolded. I liked all the second line characters. It was simply a very good book.

I'm glad I discovered Ms. Butcher as an author. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to count on picking anything of hers up and liking it.

I recommend this book. Enjoy! :)

In this suspenseful story news reporter Elise McBride comes back to the US to search for her sister Ashley, who has gone missing. Ashley's protective neighbor, ex cop, Trent Brady thinks he is stopping a burglar when he catches Elise trying to break into her sisters house in the middle of the night.

Elise is determined to locate her sister at all cost. Trent is determined to protect Elise. This is a great story of compassion, love and healing.

As much as I hate to say it, this was not up to the high standard I've already gotten used to holding Butcher to. Please don't get me wrong- I enjoyed it, but it was pretty much your average romantic suspense novel. Not that that's a bad thing, but... Even the main characters didn't quite draw me in like the protagonists in her previous 4 books. I'm sure her next entry in The Sentinel Wars series will be bring me back to my high.

Wow, this was one very exiting book. It had me on my toes. So much that when the phone rang in the middle of a rather thrilling passage, I jumped and drop the book.

The serial killer is so horridly deranged and I am glad that Ms Butcher doesen´t writes more graphic than she does. Euwww, the word bone saw will give me chills for a long time. The end was very unexpected and had me cheering! (Can´t really write more if I´m not to give the story away).

The love story between Elise and Trent was strong...more

(re-read for me) I remember I had just come off of reading her Delta Force Series and was looking for more Romantic Suspense books from her.. She came out with this stand alone book that just rocks.. This book had everything I love in a romantic suspense novel! The romance between Trent and Elise was sweet and sexy, the villain was extremely gross and creepy, and the ending was a happy one all around. I've read pretty much everything Shannon Butcher has written, and I liked them all, but I wish she'd write a few more like this one!

I wish I could say that I "love this book to death", but I don't.
It was very disappointing, especially when I loved her other books.

I think I just couldn't get past the "Oh no my sister is missing
and possibly dead, but hey, you're cute and I'm available..." part.
Not believable and not happening for me.
Pam
I really enjoyed reading this book. It's got mystery, romance, suspense and intrigue.

Elise is looking for her missing sister. Trent is an ex-cop helping Elise. It's a given that these two hook up. Both of these two characters are feeling guilt from their past. Him for making a huge mistake in his career; her for not being there to protect her sister. I agree with another reviewer that the feelings of guilt show up way too often throughout the book.

What I did appreciate is how the author wrote...more

I basically skimmed through this whole book...the plot was so reminiscent of a Karen Rose novel but w/o the excellent writing...the h/h seemed young and immature...liked thier chemistry but just couldn't get into the book.
