Really excited about trying this out with Jms. The explanations are clear and the illustrations absolutely charming. May modify my rating depending on the results of teaching Jms, but happy to give it 4 stars at the moment (one minor quibble: the author talks about the sign for "mine" but doesn't include an illustration or description for it: better editing would have caught that.)

I learned that age 6-9 months is when babies can start paying attention to what you sign. You should say the word while doing the sign to help them learn. Although babies may not be able to sign right away, they can at least recognize your signs and meanings. At some point, they'll be able to sign back at you, but can only learn 1 or 2 signs at a time. So, if learning is slow...don't give up...it's normal. Babies have ideas to communicate before they're able to talk, so sign language allows them...more
This was a good starter book for me as a first time mother and not knowing anything about baby sign language. There are colorful flashcards as well as an illustrated book about signing, including benefits, when to sign, and more.
