The creativity that seeps into Laurell Hamilton’s book is astonishing.
With that said, Bloody Bones is one of her books in the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series that really doesn’t do it for me.
There are parts of this book that make you read super fast in anticipation of how a scene will turn out! Unfortunately, those scenes are few and far between in this book.

The fifth installment of Laurell K. Hamilton's ongoing Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series, which takes as its premise the idea that vampires, werewolves, and other preternatural creatures are an accepted reality, and have been granted equal rights in the United States, Bloody Bones follows its heroine as she heads to Branson, Missouri to begin the difficult job of raising an entire cemetery from the dead. Hired to help settle a land dispute, Anita instead finds herself caught up (as always) in a

This book was my least favourite of this series so far.
It isn't that the writing itself was bad; in fact I can see a great improvement both in style and technique here from the beginning of the series. I just didn't enjoy the subject matter, the characters, the conflicts... it all seemed to rub me the wrong way.
In particular there seemed to be a turn for the worse in the character of Richard that bothers me. I don't like it when a character seems to be growing in one di More...

My favorite in the series so far! Hamilton's take on fairie lore made for some intriguing twists. Serephina was an intriguing villain, I really enjoyed the imagery of her and her powers really made things interesting. The character development was exciting for me, especially Anita's internal struggle with her mother's death, as wel as learning more about Jean Claude's past. The only thing that tripped me up a bit was that Jason seemed different than in the previous book; this may be because h

For all the Anita Blake books - I started this series with my then friend, Meredith - she actually got me hooked that fateful summer of 2000 when I was living on her wooden floor in Brooklyn. We were both unemployed and bored and got hooked into this series. I loved Anita Blake because it was before I discovered the new genre - what I like to call "badass chicks who kick ass!" written in first person - and so she was all empowering and of course there were hot vampires and werewolves i

Oh, damn...
Really?
Such a disappointment.
Once, Anita is this huge Mary Sue, which is utterly ridiculous.
Second... enough with the idiotic sex scenes already... I picked the series because of the "the vampire hunter part, this should be changed to - the vampire boner).
Don't get me wrong. I am interested in the fact that we are seeing a complicated polygamous relationship and that we see BDSM and the like, but... something is rubbing me the wrong way about this.

Bloody Bones is the fifth instalment in the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series by Laurell K. Hamilton.

Larry gets to go along for the ride and learns more about being a vampire hunter. This trip causes a lot of tension between Anita and Larry. This book loses a whole star just because I’m getting sick and tired of villains always dying in such sucky ways. Yes sucky isn’t very articulate but neither are these so called larger than life inhuman badguys.
I think this book had a lot more going for it in the long run, but Hamilton just took it to a place that wasn’t as interesting as I thought it was going to be. I thought the side plot with the teenage girls death and her parents wish to ‘kill her’ before she rose as a vampire wa More...

Book 5 of the Anita Blake series. Anita is called in to raise a graveyard full of zombies and gets called off to investigate murders.
This was a solid urban fantasy, but had a couple tropes that I find increasingly annoying.
For one, the whole, "Oh no! I could date you, except you are immortal, supernaturally beautiful, strong and powerful! That makes you not human enough" thing. I understand the need for character conflict. And, xenophobia would even make sense More...

Although I never really learned to like Anita Blake, she was always tolerable ~ until Bloody Bones. Didn't Anita complain about all of the Were's alpha fight/dominance nonsense in Lunatic Cafe? Really, she is no better than the Were's here. If you take out all of the "I'm a bigger badass than you are" scenes & descriptions of corny outfits, you are left with nothing more than a short story. Granted.... I do like Hamilton's story telling. But at this point I feel as if I am wading throu

I keep giving the series only 2 stars, yet keep reading. Why? Because I like the plot. However, Hamilton's writing style just makes me skim through large chunks of the story until I get to the interesting bits, so it's a love-hate relationship.
I like the love triangle between Richard, Anita, and Jean Claude. The introduction of the fey was interesting as well.
Also, finally Anita is behaving like a religious person (or at least more so than before), although as yet she still hasn't been More...

had started to read this book about a year ago and I kept putting it down and had finished the first 8 chapters and just put it away on the top shelf of my room. I picked up countless other books and decided that Anita Blake was not for me...then I ran into a problem, I had finished all the Night Huntress series, and for some reason had picked up Black Dagger Brotherhood books 1, 3 and 4 and not picked up #2!! I had read #1 and wanted to read #2 and was told I must read them all in sequence...n

This book is a little better in my opinion again than volume 4. Larry Kirkland, animator and vampire’s hangman in education, plays a stronger role in this tape. This is very positive from my view, because Larry is a small brother a sort of Anitas and the dialogues between the both break up whole a little. He also creates a little the balance to Anita becoming nevertheless slowly colder and colder.
Also Jean-Claude receives more place in this book again and one gets to know more about More...

The fifth instalment of Anita Blake is a great addition to the series. In Bloody Bones Anita encounters all sorts of new dangers as well as some old ones, all of which makes for a fast-paced read full of gore that leaves you guessing to the end.
After Anita is contracted by two parties feuding over land to raise the dead in an old, disturbed cemetery, things go from bad to worse all around her. What started as a regular job gets ugly quickly.

Not bad. I rated a 3 because there were just to many "things that make you go huh?" moments. I didn't always get everything. I never did exactly understand how and when Serephina became more powerful. Was it from feeding on the fey? If feeding on an immortal or fey made a vampire more powerful, I'd think they would have figured that out by now and all be feeding on immortals and/or fey. I never did exactly figure out the whole sword thing and who or what (tho it was narrowed down to tw

My ratings system is as follows. One star is GOOD. The book is entertaining, easy to read and you don't want to stop reading because something about the book is compelling you not to. Two stars is GREAT! This time the story is not only entertaining, but highly creative, unique, easy to read and hard to put down. Three stars is EXCELLENT. Here the book has all aspects of one and two stars, but now the book is thought and emotionally provoking. Four is AWESOME. This is the read that is not onl

Why is it that I read these books and think that there is an inside joke going on that I just don't get. I finish them. I roughly know how they end. But I am confused as to the why and the how. I had to read parts of the book several times to try and understand. What was the deal with Magnus? Who killed the boys? What the hell was bloody bones? In the end I just gave up and thought "I am never going to get the inside joke - just move on". :-)

I liked this book which surprised me a little bit. I have read so many reviews that were either one way or the other with this series that I have just really had to allow myself to get into it and decide for myself. So far my ride has been kind of like a roller coaster, there have been books that I really liked and some that were eh' but I definitely liked the story line for Bloody Bones and I kept wanting to read more to find out what would happen. Despite what I have read from some, I am kind

Bloody Bones is the fifth instalment of the popular Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter novel series, written by Laurell K. Hamilton. Although Hamilton does an excellent job of allowing these novels to standalone without constant reminders of the previous instalments, I recommend reading the series in order to allow for deeper understanding of the characters and their backgrounds.
In this instalment we see Anita Blake, animator at Animators Inc. and legal vampire executioner, travel to St. Lo More...

So we have reached the fifth book of the series. Like the first four series, Bloody Bones is packed with hard core fighting, bitching and all that macho stuff that Anita seems to handle quite well. I have enjoyed reading how Anita manages to maintain a balance in her life and how she handles every obstacle effortlessly.
The book is good, but compared to the first four, this was quite a long read. I mean, I didn't quite enjoy this as much as the first four books. But it doesn't More...

Bloody Bones is one of the more brutal outings in this series. A huge portion of the book follows Anita Blake as she’s working and this time she’s called in on a case that is particularly gruesome. Three teen boys are brutally slain, a young teen girl is left for dead and a young boy has been kidnapped, possibly by a deviant sexual predator of a vampire who enjoys toying with children. It’s dark and painful to read the grief instilled within some of these pages.

Book five in the Anita Blake series.
Anita goes to Branson on a dodgy necromancer job, aren't they all? The plot & sub-plots are superb, the character interactions are intense and undiluted in their telling. Dolph asks for her expertise in some violent deaths, there's powerful vampires, emotion feeding fae and rotting corpses.
Read by Kimberly Alexis aka Laurell K Hamilton, Again I was impressed, there's nothing nasel about her accent. Her intonation is clear, diff More...

Where to begin. Well, first of all, I am NEVER going to listen to Anita Blake as an audio book again. Although The Lunatic Cafe as an audio book wasn't that bad, that was also about 2 hours less. Not that it mattered really. I think what it really comes down to is that the first audiobook I listened to was Lunatic Cafe because I wanted to "read" while I was working. So I think there was some novelty to it at first, so I didn't take it for what it was.
But, as far as the audio More...
