Pinkerton is a dog who just can’t seem to listen to the rules. When his owners become fed up with trying to train him, they take him to an obedience class. Quickly the trainer sees that Pinkerton is not going to listen and might just be a lost cause. Every time Pinkerton is given a command, he does the exact opposite. However, when a robber comes into the house, Pinkerton does just what he is supposed to. This book has been classified as a controversial book because there is an image of the robb...more

Pinkerton, Behave is a cute story that all children will love. Children will fall in love with Pinkerton, the dog, and will want to read more stories about this big, loveable dog. The text is very simple with a dre words on each page. The pages sometimes contain only one words because they are commands like, stop, come, and fecth. The illustrations are very comical and add so much detail to the story. Pinkerton is a very relatable character because he is stubborn and wants to do what he wants to...more

Classic Kellogg illustration with humor constantly present as well as needing to be sought out. The story itself wasn't really funny for me until the end. But I liked it all the same. I think this is better as a lap-read so the reader can point out who is doing the talking or the thinking (since it is not consistent and there are never quotation marks to alert you that someone IS talking). It could still work in a storytime. A school-age group would get the humor. Preschool might, but I'm not su...more

This was a hilarious book.. Pinkerton is one confused pooch when it comes to learning commands. He does the exact opposite of what is to be expected. His owner even tried to get him professional help, but nothing seemed to help. Poor Pinkerton tried his best and still got bad grades...

Needless to say, I had to stop reading to catch my breath from laughing so much..Each page had me wondering what this coo-kie dog would do next. The kids really enjoyed Pinkerton and couldn't get enough of him...

This book is a great book for second graders to read by themselves and as a read aloud for first grade. This book is humorous and shows that having a dog is a lot of responsibility. It also shows that everyone learns in different ways, and we can make do with what we know. This was a really good book and I would really recommend it to anyone with kids or a teacher.

Pinkerton, Behave! (Kellogg, 1979) became the first of several books Kellogg wrote about the lovable, hapless harlequin Great Dane. The story and the illustrations are original and entertaining for both children and adults. Adults will smile at the name of the obedience school, “Doctor Aleasha Kibble’s Canine University” emblazoned over the building which is styled after the Greek Parthenon. Both adults and children will cheer when Pinkerton saves the day after flunking obedience school.

Pinkerton the dog is unruly to the point where he fails obedience class miserably. But all his faults provide the perfect solution to a frightening problem -- a break-in at his house. Pinkerton gives the armed burglars what-for, and saves the day.

I read this book because it was on the banned/challenged book list, and I wanted to see what was up. I'm guessing it's banned/challenged because there are guns in a lot of the pictures, and the mom in the book is even threatened with a gun. Is that why?...more

I brought this book home to provide a little entertainment for a small child that was visiting. This was one of my favorite picture books when I was little. The illustrations are fantastic, cute and clever. We all have or know of problem dogs, but we love them anyway.

This is a cute story about a puppy who flunks out of obedience school, but his family knows him well and they are able to get him to help them fend off a burglar. It's a silly tale, but the illustrations are colorful and fun and our girls really liked it.

This was a cute book. I love the books about Pinkerton because he is so fun. This book would be god to show kids how pets can be protective. However, it may not be appropriate for school because it shows a burglar with a gun.

Cute story and I love Kellogg's illustrations. The reason this has four stars is that I managed to find a copy of it signed by the author at a book sale, so very happy with that.

This was the first library book I ever incurred massive fines for --that I remember.
I just ordered it to have and it's as awesome as I remembered.;)

I loved these books as a little girl. I remember hiding in the shelves of the library so I could keep reading it instead of going back to class

Love Pinkerton stories...however I'm not terribly impressed by the illustration, although Pinkerton himself is cute.
