It's a very topsy-turvy experience, but overall I liked this introduction to the "TrueBlood" series. I'm glad that it came in omnibus form, because the way some of the first book ended was simply mean; thankfully the third ends on a nicer cliff-hanger.

As far as negatives go, I really only felt two. The main problem I have is that Sookie is absolutely spineless at times, but maintains her defiance by simply running away whenever love or circumstances conspire against her. Where's she's irritating...more

After watching the television series and finding it entertaining, I decided to read the book which I found rather surprisingly to be quite similar to the tv series, since normally the show is totally different from the book, e.g the vampire diaries. Although I have to say, not unlike the vampire diaries, I also prefered the tv series to the book. In the tv series, I find the characters to be a lot more developed and likeable. Especially with Bill, whom I thought to be an absolute arse in the boo...more

So I decided to read this by encouragement from a friend of whom the book was borrowed from. I am so hooked now that I asked for the rest of the series for Christmas. If you are a fan of the HBO show, be prepared as the show has added other story lines that are not in the book. The book as always is way better

I watched the first season of True Blood before reading this omnibus, which includes the first three novels in Charlaine Harris's "Sookie Stackhouse" series.

I found it a bit dull at first, but that was because I knew what was going to happen next. The TV series is relatively faithful to the book. There are a few differences but I think Alan Ball's adaptation to television kept the spirit of the books and Sookie's voice and style was very familiar. I could hear Anna Paquin narrating to me as I r...more

My overall impression--meh. I'm not sure how a story like this made it into the movie biz. I wasn't drawn into any of the plot lines, I found Sookie to be a little too squeamish and "Southern Belle" for me. I didn't care if she and Bill got together or not. To be fair, I hung on through the first three books, so it's not like I just read a little bit and threw it down. It just didn't seem to live up to all the hype of True Blood--this might be a rare case of where the movie is better than the bo...more

Luen kyllä mielelläni seuraavatkin osat, mutta en lue...more

Was really disappointed with this book. I'd really loved the HBO series, but by comparison this was... really lacklustre. The writing was pretty uninspired, and for the half of the book I did read I was just waiting for all the other interesting characters from the show to come into it... but they never did... This is all about Bill and Sookie, and even they're pretty boring characters.... Just goes to show how impressive a job HBO does in adapting a TV series from a rather mediocre southern mys...more

I've just finished all nine books and eagerly await the next in the series. These were all highly addictive and I can't really say that one was more superior than the others which oftentimes happens in series, but they did grow in characters and in story with twists and turns I wasn't expecting. The first book: Dead Until Dark I probably enjoyed the least only because I had seen the HBO series first and so with only a couple of exceptions, I pretty much knew how everything was going to turn out....more

5 outta 5 for the whole darn series

So this is what I spent the majority of my free time Saturday to Saturday doing. I have to tell you, Anita Blake kicks ass (series by Laurell K Hamilton), but Sookie Stackhouse is just too cool for school. She just kind of stumbles from one thing to the next and manages to kick ass in a clumsy, funny, super duper way.

I think this series even kicks the Anita Blake series, which is unfortunate for Anita-because I really liked her (but I digress-I just finished t...more

I am really not sure how to rate this book! Usually by the end I have some kind of idea. But the writing is truly horrendous. A lot of things just don't make sense or tie together at all. There were also WAY too many typos. Really, editor?!? If I'm noticing them all (I can't say I'm the most attentive person) then it's really out of hand. Basically, this book was bad. But I was entertained. I'm going through some pretty heavy stuff right now and it was a nice, brainless distraction. I really lik...more

I started reading this series after watching True Blood on HBO and fell in love with the characters. The book was different from the tv series, which was a pleasant surprise. I enjoyed reading this omnibus of the first 3 novels, taking about one day per book, as they were easy to read. If you like watching it on tv, you'll probably enjoy reading these books too.

Found this book in a used bookstore after reading all of the currently released books. I enjoyed it a lot. It was slightly different than the first three books. Some differences a little more details, and it is three books in one. Can't beat that. Love the books, all of them. Charlain Harris is a genius!!!

i really enjoyed this book. i think i like this book because it had all the three book in one so i can just got right in to the next. i felt like the second book took me a while to read because it was kinda slow. the first and second where much quicker reads. my least favoirte part had to be the ending of the last book i was so unhappy becuase i wanted to know what was going to happen with bill and snooke.

this was a book that you have to be really mature about, and a skilled reader. i liked it a lot because it was about the fantasy world around us that we may not know. it was a really good book i couldn't put it down. but you have to really read it in order or else you wouldn't understand it.

Not bad, I guess. I suppose I just prefer the guilty pleasure of the HBO series now. At least it was better that the Twilight series, without all that sappy 'what-will-I-do-without-my-vampire' stuff. There are just better things out there to read.

I loved the first 3 books in the Sookie Stackhouse series! (This is a 3 in one omnimbus.). They were well thought out and different from the other vampire books I'd read in the past. You could relate to Sookie, even with her gift/curse. She wasn't this perfect southern belle, she was just a regular girl muddling her way through life the best she could. And, although the characters were way over the top in their strangeness, they seemed so real, and very Southern. Best books in the series by far,...more

Interesting reads. The books aren't really that long and involved. Fun to read and relaxing to read. You don't have to think too hard about things. I like them enough to finish up the series but I wouldn't say they're a "must read" like some other books in the paranormal genre.

This is the Omnibus edition containing Dead Until Dark, Living Dead in Dallas, and Club Dead. (The first three books in the series.) If you have read the series, then you know it's worth it to buy this, because once you read book 1, you'll be driving back to the book store for book 2. This series is addicting and fun to read. Usually I don't like when a series comes out with many different covers for the same book, but I do love all these covers, so if you collect the books of series you like, t...more

This is a (long) ongoing series. I really enjoyed the first few books in this series, but eventually dropped it because I lost interest (I'm no good with sticking with long series).
Sweetp-1
It was a mistake going from two prize winning books to this. I just couldn't get past the writing. I really enjoyed the show but I think some of the 'dramatic' impact of the book was lost because I already knew the plot.

Decided to read this as I've been bitten by HBO's TrueBlood series. The writing is inconsistent. Not great literature, but engrossing enough for the daily commute. I must agree with my friend Cherie, who lent it to me, the actor who portrays Bill doesn't quite fill the "bill" in the book. This is really a trilogy and made for great escapist reading on the el.

I love the True Blood series and the books are even better. A lot of detail and seems real. Has mystery, condey, horror and romance. Keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Dead Until Dark:
When I read the blurb, I thought that this book is definitely a thriller. Finally, a book to look forward to. In the beginning the book is very good, but in the end I was wishing to throw the copy against the wall. I thought as being the main character, Sookie, might have some dignity. I turned out to be wrong. As soon as Bill left she went to Sam which was totaly unfair. I have to say that I hated this book. Sookie is a real bitch.
Living Dead in Dallas:
It was okay. Nothing ter...more

Vampires, sex, werewolves, sex, maenads, sex, faeries, sex....
You get the idea, but these are actually a real guilty pleasure to read. As a fan of the TV show I had to give these a go, and I'm glad I did; so far I've read the first couple omnibus' (omnibi?) and look forward to continuing to read the rest of the series.

Charlaine Harris has been a published novelist for over twenty-five years. A native of the Mississippi Delta, she grew up in the middle of a cotton field. Now she lives in southern Arkansas with her husband, her three children, three dogs, and a duck. The duck stays outside.

Though her early output consisted largely of ghost stories, by the time she hit college (Rhodes, in Memphis) Charlaine was wr...more
