THE RESISTANCE is the much anticipated sequel to THE DECLARATION. It picks up where THE DECLARATION leaves off and is told through Peter’s eyes. He and Anna live together with Ben, Anna’s brother, in a run down house trying to keep out of the way. Peter and Anna aren’t comfortable being Legal yet and find the stares and nasty comments coming from the other citizens unsettling.

The second book of this series I find deals more with Peter than anything else. He begins posing at his grandfathers company where they make Longevity. Peter is trying to find any information to help the Underground. The Underground is a group resistance, they go against everything the Authority and the declaration stand for.
Anna, in what little we see in this book, gets herself into some trouble by being forced into a trap, which the people of the Underground with Peter's help; gets h More...

Anna and Peter are now Legal's but the new status hasn't changed their minds about the Longevity drug and the consequences of people taking it. The Underground has asked Peter to accept a job working for his grandfather, the owner of the pharmaceutical company responsible for creating Longevity. Peter jumps at the opportunity but soon realises what a dangerous and complicated situation he has got himself into - especially when his grandfather begins to put pressure on him to sign the Declaration

Gemma Malley’s The Resistance is an incredible piece of literature. I think this should be studied in school, it has the potential to be the next Brave New World or 1984. The novel deals with a lot of social issues, and critiques society in a way that will have young people thinking. I have several ideas for essays I could write about this book, and it would not be difficult for a high school English teacher to create lesson plans for it.

This is the sequel to The Declaration. I don’t think there will be a third… but who knows. I may have to look into it. But The Resistance ends fine, and while not everything is wrapped up, it’s pretty much settled. So really, there’s no need for a third, but it would be interesting.
So The Resistance is set in the same world as The Declaration. We’ve got Anna and Peter together, with baby Ben, a few months after The Declaration left off. A new character is thrown in- a young Legal, ju More...

The sequel to Malley's The Declaration, The Resistance takes the reader deeper into the warped future England and into the world of 'Renewal' - where drug driven eternity is available to anyone who signs up for it, and children are considered 'Surplus', and used for menial labour, and much worse.
The pace of this second book is a little faster than the first, which does it no harm at all. There are a couple of action sequences which feel, perhaps, just a little 'set piece' - as though More...

This second book in the series is told from Peter's perspective. I found it interesting and refreshing. A bit of a slow start. An interesting landscape of a dystopian future. Although, I found both Anna and Peter naive and somewhat easy to manipulate and too easy to trust. Perhaps this makes the characters relatable, but I found it easy to be one or two steps ahead of the plot, which lost some of the punch. I most enjoyed the character of Jude and hope he will be a bigger part in the next book.

Like the prequel, this book is very addicting.
It picks up where the prequel left off, told from Peter´s point of view. In this book, Anna doesn´t particate as much as the other, but tha´s because it´s Peter´s POV. She stays at home taking care of Ben for most of the book, until she gets caught by the Authorities planning an escape plan for surpluses. She is happier and more outgoing in this book, like she forgot all the suffering she went through. More...

I struggled to rate this book. Wavering between 4 stars, because I couldn't put it down and consumed it in one night and 3 stars because I didn't enjoy it as much as the first and felt that it lacked the original spark. But anyway, in a nutshell, here are my issues with this book:
1. The switch up in protagonist. I like Peter but I missed Anna and didn't slot so easily into his mentality. Anna herself seemed devoid of her original personality. Which brings me to..

The year is 2140. Having escaped the horrors of Grange Hall, Peter and Anna are living freely on the Outside, trying hard to lead normal lives, but unable to leave the terror of the Declaration—and their experiences as surpluses—completely behind them. Peter is determined to infiltrate Pharma Corporation, which claims to have a new drug in the works; "Longevity+" will not just stop the ravages of old age, it is rumored to reverse the aging process. But what Peter and Anna discover behi

'The Resistance' is just as good as 'The Declaration', if not better, it is more exciting and the tension builds up nicely, which was great to read, there was so many twists and turns, that set you up for the next book. The main character Anna is different in 'The Resistance', she is stronger but she still carries the effects of her time in Grange Hall, she strives to become part of a society where adults are suspicious of children, especially teenagers (which I felt mirrors life at the moment

Mmmmm I'm in love with Peter Pincent. Haha okay not really. But honestly if he was a real person I would be.
Anyway, this book is amazing. This AUTHOR is amazing.
This book gets pretty....dark?...repulsive?....But I couldn't put it down!!
I was already in love with these books but this interview gave me a different perspective for them:

Look, I really enjoyed this book, probably even more than the first one when I got into it but the author went and did exactly the same thing again... created a happy ending.
It's annoying me. Both books follow the same format of Problem > Panic > Solution > The End. I finished the first book thinking "hey, that was a really original story" but I only half-heartedly purchased the second one because the first one had ended with both Anna and Peter alive, well a More...

This is the second instalment of the declaration series and it is as well written as the first one, with just as much drama, originality and uniqueness to it that you can't help but feel attracted and addicted to the novel. I liked the fact that in this novel you got a wider look at the life of peter for this one seemed to focus on his life, what he was now doing, and what his plans now involved. This book was just as well written as the first one because it represented the main plot that the st

I will admit it, I'm somewhat disappointed. I was hoping for a bit more action, I had to force myself to read it. The characters were the same, Anna was naive and Peter is... well Peter. The twist was something and I personality wanted to go into the story and beat up Peter's Grandfather (who's name I forgot) I am shocked, and I want to read the next one in the trilogy.

Great sequel! New complications and debates are introduced in this one, ultimately leading to the decision between right and wrong.
This book was a bit slow in the beginning, I have to admit, but it picks up - I promise! Peter's love for Anna (and vice versa) is there throughout, though - it's so sweet! So different from the hot and heavy romances I read - this one has some sincere love that wasn't suddenly introduced because of the lust craze. The complications in their romance was hard, bu More...

This is the second book in the "Declaration" series. Anna and Peter have escaped from Grange Hall and are now living on their own with Anna's brother Ben. This book gives us a deeper look at how the Longevity pills are made, the people creating them, and the motivation behind the drugs. Peter's grandfather is the mastermind of Pincent Pharma that makes Longevity and the new Longevity +. In working at the plant, Peter discovers the very disturbing and horrific ideals of his grandfat

So...The Resistance. The sequel to The Declaration. Funny, both are YA fiction, but this one FELT a lot like YA in a way that The Declaration did not.
The two main characters, Anna and Peter, are the same main characters from The Declaration. While this is a good and fluid continuation of their story, this time more from Peter's perspective than Anna's, it just felt somehow....juvenile, I think is the word I am looking for.
I did give this 4 stars but really I would have More...

Although not quite as engaging as its predecessor The Declaration this is still an enjoyable and fast paced read. The story picks up perhaps a few months later. Peter, Anna, and Ben are settling into life together, and to assist the Underground Peter has agreed to go to work for his Grandfather. They've agreed not to sign the Declaration, but after discovering shocking information both begin to question everything they believe in.
The story is told from the perspective of both Peter and More...

I liked Peter more in this one. He didn't seem like a wimp. But something that I thought was odd was in The Declaration, Anna and Peter both got there first kiss and you know, it's all just innocent teenage stuff. Then when you read this, you find out that Anna is pregnant. And everybody in the book is so excited. Has everyone forgotten that she's like 14? Anyone? And I find it hard to believe that Anna can adjust that quickly to "normal" life. It has been less than a year and no More...

I love the implications of this series. What would you do to stay young? What would become of society if there are no young people? The society of this world is just as messed up as ours is just in a different way. I love the lack of morals in the pursuit of power and science. I love that there is always a resistance when society becomes dictatorial and it is not dependent on young people. This is a really good series and I can't wait for the last book. I think this book definitely brought issue

This is the sequel to The Declaration. I really like the ideas in this series, but the execution could have been a bit more complex. I was annoyed that this book does not stand well on its own. It kept referring back to events and characters in the first book without any background, and even though I've read the first book in the series, it was awhile ago and I found myself getting confused. Also the plot was predictable and the characters relatively one-dimensional. I still liked it though and

Reading The Declaration first is imperative. If I had not read The Declaration before reading this book, I would have been lost so many times. The author assumes that you know who many secondary characters are and that you are familiar with their stories. (I read the first book, and I still forgot a few characters - like Jude - so I can't imagine how anyone opening up this book first would follow it.) That being said, I think it is a very good sequel. A bit predictable, and everyone else can see

Interesting contemplation of a future society that has attained a measure of immortality and lasting health by taking a pill called Longevity, which makes extensive use of stem cells. Only problem is that is does not work well enough and so to improve the formula, they are going to have to use embryonic stem cells and the only way to do that is to harvest three week old foetuses and kill them for their cells. I must have bought this book 3 years ago... Didn't bother to pick it up until now. When I read 'The Declaration', the first book in this series, the cutting dystopian world both enthralled and enraged me such that I almost felt like it was bad for my health to read on.
But I did. And I'm glad of it.
This book makes living forever a truly disgusting concept. I very nearly wanted to tear my hair out at the gritty descriptions of this world gone wrong, of the things that were happ More...

Good book. LOVED Jude's character, really liked the inclusion of him. I didn't think the whole Jude/Peter being BFFs right away was entirely believable but whatevskis. The only other problem I have with the book is its really hard to see Anna and Peter as a basically married couple at 15. I mean Anna is pregnant and Peter is drinking his sorrows away at the bar, it's just really unbelievable that 15 year olds would be acting the way they do even taking into account their backgrounds. This is the follow up to the Declaration. Now that they are legal, Peter and Anna have to learn to live in this strange world. But Peter still works for the resistance and he starts working for his grandfather at Pincent Pharma. His role is to look at everything and report to Paul, head of the resistance. But the Longevity seems more and more interesting for him.
