The Time of Aspen Falls
by
Marcia Lynn McClure (Goodreads Author)
Aspen Falls was happy. Her life was good. Blessed with a wonderful family and a loyal best friend-Aspen did know a measure of contentment. Still, to Aspen it seemed something was missing-something hovering just beyond her reach-something entirely satisfying that would ensure her happiness. Yet, she couldn't consciously determine what the "something" was. And so, Aspen sail...more

I hope Marcia Lynn McClure continues to write forever. I love the enjoyment that fills my life when reading one of her books. I loved starting this book and was so quickly caught up in it's splendor. I was addicted to the beginning and just wanted to read and so I did for as long as I my kids would allow me to. This was a very cute story.

I totally enjoyed this book. It was different just because most of hers are not in modern times. Marcia is a fun, loving, kind hearted person with the talent to bring that to paper. It draws you into the story and lets you be a part of the lives in her books. This book was no different except it seems that a lot more of Marcia is in this book. If you don’t enjoy escaping into a different world for a time don’t read this book. I loved it because I also laughed out loud. Marcia you are the bomb....more
Oh how I just love MLM books! Sometimes you just get tired of reading about a hero and heroine who have to struggle so much for a happily ever after and it was just refreshing to read a happy romance. I loved the setting of this book in New Mexico and the picture Marcia painted of the balloon festival was very realistic, I've been to a few balloon festivals before and I really just felt like I was right there with them! The characters were so delightful! Aspen was shy and sweet and I just loved...more
This is the first of this author's novels that I have read that is set in a modern day time period. While I enjoyed the story I think I am just partial to period pieces. Her intertwining of women's like of Pride and Prejudice and the like through Rake's name as well as his costume "Mr. Rochester Darcy" was sweet. I love how though the story is centered mostly on Aspen and her thoughts you are also able to explore along with Rake and his desire to find something worth dying for. The most amusing...more

This was my least favorite of all of her books. It was really cheesy and nothing really happened except them falling in love in the begining of the story and their unexciting courtship. I also could barely handle her using the phrase,"oh my heck" she used it constantly and I hate it. I loved the lead male character but that was about all I liked. Usually, I can't put her books down but this one didn't do it for me. Definitely check out her other books but this one is a pass.
Marcia has done it again with her first full-length modern novel. I love the heroine and her best friend, they have a great relationship that reminds me of my own best girlfriends. And, the smoldering "rake" is fantastic!
I understand that some people don't like modern romance novels, but this was a fun, fresh, sweet story with plenty of romance. Anyone who has been to Alberquerque will enjoy a lot of the local references--it made me want to visit!

This book is all Marcia. It shows her fun, loving spirit. Her personal love for hot air balloons, New Mexio and light, happy love stories is what makes this story great. Granted some coincidences had me rolling my eyes, I loved the ending. This book had me laughing out loud more than once, it seemed to have more comic relief than most of her others. LOOOOOOOOVED IT!
I love this book! Rake Locker is such a great name and character. Who wouldn't fall in love with him? Such a fun book!
Can I give more than 5 stars? I absolutely loved this book. What a wonderful story and the characters were so precious. Gina was the funniest thing I've read about in a long time. She so much reminds me of me. Aspen was just so sweet, independent, yet so soft. The incident with Apen and the spider was just so wonderfully written. What a way to meet the "man of your dreams." Rake was so sweet, amusing, centered and real. I enjoyed reading about the balloons in Albuquerque, to the mascarade dance...more
I find Marcia McClure's writing charming! In the author's note she said,
" My one wish-that your experience in reading The Time of Aspen Falls is simply this-I hope it made you smile! I hope The Time of Aspen Falls was able to lighten your heart a little-help you rise above the stressful times we're al enduring right now-even if it was only for a little while. This was a good book and I enjoyed it most of the time, however after a while some of Aspen's insecurity became irritating and seemed like a deep lack of trust that would have been hard to overcome. I also thought the secondary romance was a little too secondary, I would have liked to see them get together sooner and gotten to see the two couples interact together more. Like I said it was a good enough book to enjoy once but I'm not sure I'll read it again unlike "A Better Reason to Fall in Love...more
Marcia's books are so much fun! Yes Marcia, this totally made me smile! I like that this one was set in modern times. I thought the Vampire Rochester Darcy was a wonderful. I loved the nod to Stephanie Meyer. I especially loved the message behind the book about not prejudging people.
The only thing that kept me from giving this book (and often other of Marcia's books) 5 stars is that while the romance is "clean" and limited to kissing, it's more kissing and than I would want my daughter to think...more

This was a neat romance story without much "baggage". The story was extremely simple (and, in my humble opinion, too simple) and centered solely around the romance forming between Aspen Falls and Rake Locker. I was first puzzled by the names - who the hell would call their children Aspen or Rake? But Aspen seems to be a popular name in fiction nowadays - "Venus City" also has an Aspen in it. This time a boy, though.

Okay, this is going to be really easy review. Let me just say...I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, this book! I know, I know. You think I just love anything Marcia writes. Well, it's darn near the truth! I find myself very hard pressed to find something of hers that doesn't have me tipping into a swoon.
All the characters in this story were charming. I also loved how Marcia incorperate the historical/paranormal feel in a contemporary story. Lots of fun! I was particularly enamored of the descriptions of the Bal...more

I liked this book about Aspen Falls and her search for a real man's man. Maybe that's why this book in particular reminded me so much of my grandparents. My Grampa was a real man's man, and Gramma and Grampa were crazy about each other (I happen to believe that they still are), so this is going to be more of an ode to my grandmother than a review of this book.

This one was just okay for me. It contained every element guaranteed to be in a Marcia Lynn McClure book--a timid, shy, insecure woman, who is constantly making a fool of herself in love with a huge "perfectly sculpted" brawny man who frequently takes off his shirt and inevitably suffers a severe flesh wound. I think that because it was set in modern times, it wasn't as appealing to me. Marcia doesn't have a steady grasp on modern vernacular, and her characters came across as silly and shallow....more
I've read almost all of Marcia's books now and this was my least favorite. I guess if you're in the mood for, or like a romance with no conflict or drama and just lots of wonderful moments for the characters, then you'd probably like this. My favorite scene was the rodeo scene at the beginning of the story... I loved how Rake was there and how he ended up IN the rodeo. I thought I was going to love the story when I thought he was going to be a cowboy or bull rider and that we'd get more of that...more
I absolutely love this author. I loved this book. It made me laugh, it made me cry. It's just an all around good story. I kind of rate her books with a little dreamland romance - too good to be true, yet the humor in it is so realistic that you kind of have that all around good feeling that this could really happen. I'm never disappointed in any of the books that I've read. They have all been consistantly good and always puts a smile on my face!
This is now my favorite book by Marcia Lynn McClure. I enjoyed reading about the relationship between Rake and Aspen. I loved Vampire Rochester Darcy! This book also made me crave mexican food after reading about all the wonderful food that Rake and Aspen were eating on some of their dates. I have never been to New Mexico, but my stepfather grew up there and reading this book made me want to visit this state. This was a great book that I will read again.
I agree with the other reviewers that this was a sweet, gentle story. There were some romantic parts, but this was totally PG rated.
The part that made me crazy was how the main two female characters said "Oh my heck" all the time! I live in Utah, and "Oh my heck" is a big Mormon saying. I don't know if the author is Mormon or not, but for God's sakes have some variety.
Looking back on the book, it was a bit boring, just not my taste.

I love, love, LOVE this book!!! It's like MLM has written all my thoughts and feelings down for the world to see. I can totally relate to Aspen, in believing that if a guy is good-looking then he's most likely a jerk. Happy to be proven wrong, even if it is only a fictitious story. All of MLM's books have a feel-good quality about them, that draws readers in and connects them to the characters, not to mention humour that literally makes me laugh out loud. Move over Jane Austen and Charlotte Bron...more
I really liked this book. I'm not usually big on contemporary romance but I have loved everything from McClure and this one doesn't disappoint. As much as I loved the romance between the characters, there was a strong love affair with Albuquerque. I love the place even though I've never been there. Seeing the balloon fiesta in Albuquerque is definitely getting added to my bucket list.

Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Marcia Lynn McClure grew up influenced by the reminiscent stories of rugged, rural Colorado farm life fascinatingly recounted to her by her parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts…tales of runaway buckboards, mule-drawn plows and dust pneumonia; verbalized images of stream-flooded meadows, frozen over in winter, where a child could peer through the crystal clear ic...more
