Shelves: history, knitting
This was so incredibly fascinating. The chapters took the reader through the history of knitting in the UK during WW2, which was necessarily a look at the British home front, rationing, wartime shortages, and other wonderful bits of history.

The patterns themselves were quite intricate and way out of my skill set. They showed pictures of models from the 40s and models from now wearing the completed item, though - with few exceptions, what looked wonderful back then looked awful now. ...more

This is one of the knitting books that Kym told me would make me extremely jealous. It did. It's really interesting having patterns and social history (albeit limited to knitting and fashion context) presented side by side in chronological order -- good stuff.
