Another Kim Dare win! She is so good at writing people with issues that are relateable and not overdone.
This is a christmas tale and I am glad I didn't read it at Christmas. I have to admit the dang thing made me cry.
Charles is just obtuse enough not to see how he is hurting Nicky and Nicky is just insecure enough not to know how to ask for what he wants. Thanks to the Spirit of Christmas Past, Charles gets his eyes opened and Nicky gets the security he is craving.

The Gift is another wonderful story from Kim Dare, who is rapidly become a favorite. I really enjoyed reading about Charles, a Dom, and his sub, Nicky.

Loved this book. I am a total sucker for ANY version of Dickens' A Christmas Carol, but I never thought to find it in a M/M--DOM/sub romance. Highly recommended. Thanks Kim Dare!

I really enjoyed this 24/7 D/s relationship story!! I loved how the Ghost, who was also a great minor character, took Charles through time so you could see his relationship with Nicky build. I also loved watching Charles realize when he wasn't being as sensitive to Nicky as he should have been. This story started out a bit confusing at first. I thought it was a Scrooge "bah humbug" story. It was a twist on that story but in a way that was written so poignantly, at one point my heart broke for Nicky. Nicky is so insecure that he's constantly afraid of being let go. I can understand his fear and I feel badly for him. While it's true that Charles as a top should know what is going on, how can he when Nicky is so good at serving and keeping quiet? Starting the book I expected it to be much worse than it really turned out to be. I did not like the idea of Christmas Spirit and the thresome but finally it was not that bad :P What I really liked was one of the protagonists - Nicky. A bit shy and worrying too much submissive pet of his beloved master Charles.

3.5 stars. A wonderful short story about a Master, his pet, and the meaning of Christmas. As the Spirit of Chirstmas Past takes the Charles through a journey of past christmases with Nicky, we are presented with a series of scenes that slowly show the love and tenderness between the two men and build the case for their HEA. This is a beautiful and sweet Christmas short story. Nicky, the submissive, is totally involved in the celebration of Christmas, while his master, Charles, is not interested in it. That's why the Spirit of Christmas Past tries to make Charles understand the extent of Nicky's love for Christmas (and by doing so, his love for his master).

While I do not care for menage stories, this one was okay. I love Kim Dares books so of course I had to read it. I always get jealous when reading a book and a third person is included into a relationship. Especially when the master/pet theme is included, I always feel like the third person is there for the masters pleasure only and I have a hard time following the storyline because of my insane jealously for one of the characters. The ghost of Christmas Past visits a Dominant to show him how his attitude regarding Christmas is slowly crushing the spirit of his submissive. Sounds like a simple story, and really it is, but Kim Dare puts such emotion into this little story that it goes way beyond that.

A nice Kim Dare story, sweet. I felt like it didn't quite live up to her normal standards. I noticed a couple of mistakes and she never showed the Gift.
It was a fun christmas story, but felt a bit rushed and not quite as well-thought out as other stories she has written.

I LOVED this book! A wonderfully charming Holiday read. I loved how Ms. Dare slowly revealed Charles' feelings towards Nicky to us, the readers, as well as to Charles himself. I'll definitely be searching out other work by this author.

I enjoyed this Scrooge story but I was confused about how not-as-bad-as-Scrooge like the Master was -- either there was more to their relationship that we didn't see (likely) or I am Scroogy myself (likely). It didn't feel that short either which was surprising -- normally this length book to me feels very short. I wasn't as engaged with the characters as I usually am in a Dare story - although it was sweet and cute. I kept wanting Nicky to speak up and share what he wanted. I did very much like...more

This novella was a lot of fun. It works fine as a stand-alone, though I've read about these two before. Nicky is a very insecure and needy sub, which bothers me a bit (classic for Dare, though). The relationship is sweet and loving, even if the Dom hadn't quite realized how the sub was misinterpreting things. The Christmas Spirit thing was well done. Very satisfying. Great read.

I think this is the first Kim Dare book that I haven't had to say 'should have been longer'. This was a perfect little Christmas short. Not too saccharine. Not too heavy on the TPE. Just right on the erotica; all with a lovely little HEA to top it off. Just lovely if you are in a Christmassy mood.
A very sweet story where the ghost of Christmas past helps a dom realize the depth of love and commitment for his sub.
The Scrooge in this story is a Dom who isn't paying very close attention to his sub. The spirit of Christmas past insists on showing him what he was missing. Cute story with a very happy ending.
