Right off the bat, this is my favorite book of The House of Night series. Yes, it's only book 4, but it is fantastic. This book doesn't deal with Zoey's love life as much as the others have. I'm all for the ooey-gooey bits, but this one does well without her having a boy (or man) in her life. It focuses on Zoey coming into her own and she is beginning to portray the high priestess that she really is.

And maybe because i am a teenager i just adore the easy-going writing style.
Those are some plus points.

The House of Night series is unlike any other vampire series I’ve read. I really enjoy the series and it’s interpretation of vampires. I’m especialy looking forward to reading the next novel.

I like the general story line and the characters, but the redundant writing is getting a little old. Constant vocabulary lessons from Damien, the author describes everyone over and over again, everything from their personalities to their day to day clothing choices. Everytime the Grandmother speaks she calls Zoey the Cherokee word for daughter and every single time the author explains that the word makes her feel safe. Okay, even though I haven't been a teen for a couple of years (uhm, make that over a decade), I'm a HUGE fan of the House of Night series. (Rather obvious, considering I bought it on the date of its release) Marked, Betrayed and Chosen were superb! That said, I really enjoyed Untamed, but if I had to order the books according to preference - it'd be fourth on my list.

Untamed is the fourth installment in the popular House of Night YA fantasy series by P.C & Kristin Cast. I'm a fan of this series. My favorite YA vampire series so far is Vampire Academy but this is a close second. The characters have unique quirks that make them intriguing and fun to read, the plot is varied and interesting. A boyfriend she was already semi-cheating on with Heath, though that was almost a compulsion and at least she'd been fairly up front with Erik that Something Was Going On in that department. But the Loren thing... she never seems to understand that her error wasn't in falling for the deceit, but in participating in the relationship AT ALL. I hated that all through book 3 she kept referring to Erik, Heath and Loren as her "three boyfriends." Auuugh.

Then she has the nerve, when finally talking to Erik about things, to act like he should be apologizing to her because he reacted without having the whole story (Loren's true reasons for seducing her, etc.).... yes, he reacted strongly, no, he probably shouldn't have basically called her a slut in front of all her friends, but.... YOU SLEPT WITH ERIK'S MENTOR, WHILE YOU WERE STILL SUPPOSEDLY DATING ERIK, NOT TO MENTION WHILE ALSO MESSING AROUND WITH YOUR PREVIOUS BOYFRIEND. I cannot honestly fault Erik for his behavior, jerky as it might have been. Erik has a lot to forgive, and sure I'm glad they seem to have resolved it enough to be talking and on the same side again, but Zoey just never seems to "get" what was wrong about the whole situation, and that really irked me. And then she goes and starts thinking Stark is her soul mate after talking to him for ten minutes. COME ON, ZOEY. You don't have to fall in lurrrrv/lust with every male who looks your direction, really. It's not necessary to the plot (well, it's possible a reason will be provided for the Stark think in book 5, but... still. Kinda ridiculous...).

2. I cannot believe I am saying this, but I almost think the ending would have been better if Stevie Rae had turned out to have more involvement in the Kalona resurrection than as target practice for Stark. I am weirded out that she said "he's taken my blood but not my life," and will be looking for a bit more of an explanation of that... plus with all the heavy hinting about Stevie Rae not being as back to normal as Zoey tries to pretend, I was sort of expecting her to ... I dunno. Be more evil.

Normally I'm really a happy ending kind of girl, so I'm not sure why I would WANT Stevie Rae to be evil... I like her and I'm glad she didn't die, but... it just seemed like the story would have been stronger that way. *shrug* Oh well, we'll see what book 5 has in store.(less)

Ok, so I really hated the last book and I told myself I wasn't going to read anymore of this series, but I came across a cheap electronic version and I couldn't help myself. I am glad I did. This book was so much better than the previous ones, my only two complaints are: 1. too short!! and 2. I know this is targeted towards a young audience, but come on, does Zoe really need multiple love interests in every book!!!? Jenny crack book and I don't care! It was good!

I feel like the first couple of books were wrapped up neatly in a bow by the end of the story. The last two are allowing things to remain open longer so that when you finish a book you are left wondering what will happen next. Sadly I am sure that is due to the publisher rather than the authors desire. (Wouldn't want to write a cliff hanger if you are only optioned for a single book.)

This is an audiobook I am reviewing for Sound Commentary (www.soundcommentary.com) which is why I ran through the first three books so quickly. When you read quickly. you miss a certain type of detail. In audio, you have to hear it all. The house of night series is good not great - but good. But there are many that are better. There are times when I think the writers try and "sound cool" by interjecting some colloquialism. But I find it just disrupts the story line. It reminded me greatly of the Sweep Series. Though I think the Sweep series is much better. Regardless its a quick enjoyable read for a cuddle under the covers afternoon/evening.

OK. So this book is horribly written. It seems a 12 yo wrote it. I think the other books in this series are pretty good and I was so excited when I ordered it from my local bookstore. I read the first 3 pages and almost throw up. I really don't want to finish the book at all. I understand that the authors of this book are not the best but they could have done a much better job writing this book.

Preciso, ho apprezzato i precedenti libri soprattutto perché ci ha permesso di assaporare e comprendere bene i vampiri della Cast che hanno molti tocchi originali, seppur non complessi. Ci siamo addentrati nella storia, conosciuto e amato i personaggi… ed era proprio ora che la trama evolvesse.

Le autrici non ci deludono e devo dire che questo libro è davvero scoppiettante.

Uno dei personaggi che ho rivalutato di più è proprio Afrodite. È sempre una stronza egocentrica ma ha dei picchi di sferzante gentilezza che spiazzata e soprattutto, ho apprezzato da morire il suo sparare a zero contro tutto e tutti. Il che la porta molto spesso a difendere la stessa Zoey, non è ironico?

Decisamente bello il “rientro” di Erik con la sua rabbia e la scena d’amore/odio imposta a Zoey al corso di recitazione. Niente male.

E, soprattutto, direi che un bel passo in avanti è stato fatto con Stevie Rae che, nei precedenti libri seppur simpatica tendeva a fare la parte della smidollata. La sua presa di posizione e i suoi piccoli scatti d’ira mi lasciano presagire un’evoluzione decisamente positiva per questo personaggio!

Invece, ho decisamente storto la bocca nel leggere il riferimento a Ink Exchange della Marr… arrivare a farsi pubblicità fra di loro è così di cattivo gusto!

Purtroppo questo, o per fortuna, questo libro non ci da molte risposte. È il classico libro che ci “toglie la sete con il prosciutto”, o meglio che ci lascia intravedere qualcosa ma ci lascia con l’ansia e il fiato sospeso.

It's a good thing these teen vampire dramas take only a couple of hours to read. I've read the first four of this series and each one made me vomit in my mouth just a little more. Seriously. I know, you're asking why I have read 4 if the first one made me throw up even just a little. Well, it's a funny thing, I'd rather stick a book out on the off chance that the ending makes the whole thing worth it, than never know if the ending made the whole thing worth it. Now mind you, the ending-making-a-crappy-book-worth-it thing very rarely happens. I know it's happened to me before, but I just can't remember when. It's a good think I'm not in a terrible marriage, right, I'd be here till the end waiting to see if it got better.

It's usually not such a bad thing -- I'm a fast reader. Even if the book produces much mouth vomit, I only have to spit and rinse for a few days. However, these series books, man alive, they're a bit of a problem. Thankfully, there's only one more book in the House of Night series, and I know the chances are slim that it's going to make make it all worth it, but I've gotta try.

To be honest, it's not the storyline, or characters, that turn my stomach, it's the condescending tone and the judgemental stereotypes. It's like a PSA in Utah or the 1950s. I know your writing a teen book (mostly for girls) so you might think it's a good time to give a few lessons on how to be an upstanding, moral teen, but it's not -- your teenage vampire book is not the right platform to tell us only losers smoke pot or drink, druggies are losers (always), only desperate girls give blowjobs, girls that give blowjobs are being used, only a slut would kiss her boyfriend out in the open like that, goths smell bad and don't bathe enough. And if you can't help but pass on these nuggets of wisdom, don't hit us on the head with them, give us some layers, lady!

Seriously, I'm not sure who reads and enjoys these books considering that the authors succeed in alienating every 'type' of teenager except the most middle-mundane-average-boring one, which might cover, like two actual kids in the world. Geez.

Aside from all of that, well, I don't know, it was hard to get past all of that. I keep waiting for something to happen, maybe it's all about the denouncement?!(less)

Zoey knows this is wrong, but doesn’t know who to turn to or what to do about it. Zoey will need to figure out how to patch things up with her friends and gain confidence in order to beat the devious Neferet.

I would have to say that this is the worst book in the series and the characters would have to be the worst thing about it. Specially, Erin and Shaunee with their constant name calling of “Twin”. Real twins don’t call each other twin, so why would two people who were so connected need to put it in people’s faces and call each other twin? If they were so connect that the dire need of referring themselves as “Twin” would not be necessary. The word count for “Twin” is astounding. Also, why do we need to continuously be reminded that Damien is gay? When Zoey first speaks to her group of friends she looks to Damien knowing that her “gay friend” is the weakest link. Can he not simply just be Damien? If he were asian would it be her “asian friend”? Later in the book she describes Damien’s boyfriend, Jack, entering a room as a “gay tornado”. What is a “gay tornado” and how does one become one? The authors have also introduced new side characters that have no personalities, which I’m hoping will grow in the next book. I still haven’t gotten use to Jack “the gay tornado” since introduced in the last book.

Zoey has also become weaker, more stupid, and a little self-centered. It has only been two days after the big fallout. She gets tired of her friends “holier than thou crap”, and their attitude is getting on her nerves. She later tries to confront Erik, her ex-boyfriend, and again places the fault of the break-up on him.

It’s a little hard to like Zoey after all these incidents. In the beginning of this series she was such a strong character. She had been able to confront her parents, burn up creepy looking fledglings, and start a conflict with the adored high priestess, Neferet. Yet, when she comes across flappy birds she freezes up.

For some strange reason the authors had to have the dreaded cliff hanger, which is in most cases an automatic grade drop. I feel if you are a talented writer you shouldn’t need this to have readers read your next book. Readers have a hard time remembering what had happen in the last book and feel lost when the book finally comes out. This book has a major cliff hanger and it’s on a major plot line.

Now, there are some saving things about Untamed. There is a lot going on, may be too much, but enough to keep the pages flying. The Cast’s know how to write drama and, though predictable, the reader must know what happens in the end. The authors don’t paint Christianity as such an ugly religion in this book as they have in the past or shove a Wicca type religion down our throats.

Aphrodite has become my favorite character. The girl has got spunk and has become a very redeeming character. She has got more personality than the rest of The House of Night characters, including the main one, Zoey.

I hope the Cast’s get better. This series has got great potential and I’m not sure why they felt then needed to write so much in such a small book; about 380 pages in my advance copy. If only they could stick to the main plot, which is what it seems like will happen in the next novel. I hope they write the characters more likeable. I can only read “gay” and “twin” so many times on a page.

Hands down, this has been my favorite book in the series so far (Granted I've only read 4 so far). If any of you read my review on the last book, Chosen, you have a clue as to unbelievabley pissed off I was. I was hesitant to start this book, afriad I would start throwing books again (Literally) and was plesantly suprised.

1. Her 3 boyfriend issue
2. Lying to her friends

Well her boyfriend issue was resolved. Maybe not the best way but all in all its gone. Loren was killed (Thank god. Never liked him) and the imprint on Heath was broken. I kinda felt bad for Zoey when Heath was super pissed off at her at the chicken place but I can get over that. Now I was really sad to see how much of an asshole Erik was at the end of the last book cause I actually like Erik. They kinda warm up a little during this book and that made me happy (Fingers crossed they maybe start dating again or at least become solid friends next book). That leads me to my next point, Stark. I loved Stark for the short time period we knew him. I thought I was going to melt of sorrow when he didn't make the change! I have a habit of texting one of my good friends who has read quite a few books I have read before me and I like to vent about things or talk to someone about all those WTF moment we have while reading and I texted her. I quote, me:"Goddamn it! I was seriously about to text you and be like 'OMG STARK AND ZOEY NEED TO BE TOGETHER' and he fucking DOESN'T MAKE THE CHANGE. THE FUCK BRO. WHY GIVE ME SOMETHING GOOD AND THEN TAKE IT AWAY!" (Sorry when a book makes me mad I cuss a lot) her response:"EXACTLY! HE'S SO FUCKING PERFECT & THEN HE DIEEEEEES. OMFG." *sigh* we really do think alike. So that was the one thing that really aggrivated me. But seriously though, like da fuq P.C.? Why you gotta leave me hangin'?

The other thing that made me happy about this book though was that Zoey came completely clean with her friends and told them everything. And I mean everything. And her friends understood why she didn't tell them. Whoo go nerd herd for not holding grudges!

Ok I don't know but between you and me, trying to imagine these Raven Mockers scared me shitless. I don't think I could go through what these characters do. I mean thats saying something. I've read A LOT of Paranormal/Sci-Fyish books. These authers come up with some creepy beings but these are the creepest so far. Hands down. *Shivers* Their problem not mine. Phew.

Well hopefully I got my point across in showing that I did indeed like the book and hopefully I get to a library soon so I can find out when the hell will happen with all this evil being nonsense. *Sigh* Well I look forward to what the future may bring!(less)

And there's a new problem. Zoey is targeted by raven mockers that waiting for their master, the fallen Angel, Kalona to rise after being locked up underground.
And her grandmother get a car accident because of carven mockers.
And oh yeah, there's a new guy, Stark, an archery champion that never missed everything he aim and now he died and later being undead.
And there's Erik. now he is being Zoey's drama teacher that still have a crush with Zoey but still hurt for her cheating.

Oh, looks like i just make people who haven't read this book get confused.

Ok, short story, Aphrodite got a vision that Zoey is gonna died if she still haven't make up with her nerd herd. so Aphrodite tell the nerd herd about her vision and they make up. And here come Stark (in which have a crush to her and also her to him) and dead.Aphrodite have another vision about poem so she write the poem and somehow her handwriting change to Zoey's grandmother handwriting. so her grandmother come and stayed in and the raven mockers is the reason zoey's grandmother coma.
In the same day, Zoey do the ritual and Eric give his blood as sacrifice. And when she the time come when she must call the earth element, she asked Stevie Rae to change place with Aphrodite since Aphrodite didn't have earth element. and people gasping and murmuring everywhere of course. And Neferet show up and said that Zoey is the one that made the red fledgling because she install a nanny cam with Jack's help in the room where Stark's body rest. and then the undead Stark show up and calling Zoey's name and then Neferet say something to him and he shoot stevie rae and then Kalona rise up.
And then Zoey,red fledgling's kids, Erik, Aphrodite,Stevie Rae, Jack,Damien, Twins,and Darius(Vampire from Son of Erebus) can to run into tunnel that red fledgling use as home.And Zoey can warn Heath, and Sister Maria(if i'm not mistaken) from Street Cat that take care of her grandmother to go to basement or cave(Wait, cave isn't under earth, isn't it?). and to be continued to the next book.

As usual, i still don't like how the author always repeat the meaning of daughter in cherokee,etc. i still don't like how zoey always have a crush with new important guy character.. i hope there's no more new important guy character.
i don't know is it just me or not but i think the time in the book should be faster. 2 or 3 months after you've been marked and all of that already happened then? wow, Zoey's schedule is really really thight.
i wish she can be with Heath but, i think that's impossible after imprint broken.
The author's writing is pretty much better than the first book and i wish the rest of the series will be at least like this or better.(less)

The Author’s purpose in writing this book is to entertain and suck the reader in. This book keeps you on the edge of your seat just about throughout the whole book. The content of this book is not valuable enough in information or knowledge to have a lasting effect. Even though this book doesn’t have lasting value, this book has a very good effect on the audience. This House of Night book “Untamed” keeps the reader wanting more throughout the whole book. I for example could not sit this book down to take a break.

Even with the book being entertaining a critique must be made on how ill written the book is. It does not seem that the editor of the book did a good job at editing it. There were so many minor spelling errors in the novel that it made one wonder if the book was ever edited at all. For example, here lies the summary of Untamed “Life sucks when your friends are pissed at you. Just ask Zoey Redbird – she’s become an expert on suckiness. In one week she has gone from having three boyfriends to having none, and from having a close group of friends who trusted and supported her, to being an outcast. Speaking of friends, of the two Zoey has left, one is undead and one is unMarked. And Neferet has declared war on humans, which Zoey knows in her heart is wrong. But will anyone listen to her? Zoey’s adventures at vampyre finishing school take a wld and dangerous turn as loyalties are tested, shocking true intentions come to light, and an ancient evil is awakened.” (Summary, Cast). It’s not good as a writer and author to have a book that has many careless mistakes (especially in the summary). It will make readers and other writers and aspirers to be writers see you as not being a serious writer that takes pride in their work. It’s sloppy at best, especially since there are two authors who write this series, one should catch what the other misses.

Even though this book has quite a few spelling mistakes, the quality of the story makes you overlook the spelling details. This book is very relatable to teen life. Even though the protagonist of this book is making a transition from her human teenage life to a vampire life, one can still relate to her drama issues with friends, family, and boys. This book deals with the struggle of gays, unaccepting parents, uncaring parents, the struggle of the rich teen, unfaithful relationships, the death of loved ones, teenage drama, and the deception of powerful authorities. All in all, this book is very captivating. There was never a dull moment.

The greatest strength of this book is the imagination and creativity that went into it. Vampire novels and movies are all the rage in today’s world, but this series is very unique in the sense that there is no other like it. It was obvious that some ideas stemmed off of other works, but they had many genuine thoughts and ideas. Much time and effort must have been put out to create this artistic writing. The greatest weakness was the spelling errors. Again, they could have been easily avoided if more time was taken out to edit.

I would surely promote this book to anyone to read. Despite the spelling errors this book is good; the spelling errors aren’t bad enough to take away from the enjoyment of the book. I’m sure anyone interested in Young Adult books, Adolescent aged books, or Vampire books would take great joy in these eventful pages. So I say, Read On! Check out the “House of Night Series”. Lastly I take my hat off to these wonderful authors, and I hope there is more jaw dropping books to come!

I have a love/hate relationship with this series.

First, let me start off by saying that the general storyline is pretty good. However there are many things that get on my nerves:

1) The repetition is awful. The authors are constantly retelling the backstory of all the characters. By now you should KNOW it.

2) Over explaining.... Kinda ties in with the constant repetition. They're always explaining that the Cherokee word for daughter that her grandmother uses when referring to her makes her feel...more

Untamed is a fascinating novel that will capture any teenage girl’s attention. It is well written by P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast. Through the conflicts of passionate love and closely knit friends, Zoey Redbird conquers it all.
There are good things going for this book. It reveals real life problems of teenage girls and boys. I could easily relate to Zoey, since I feel like we have similar personalities. We both believe in doing the right thing, hold friends and family close, and analyze the big picture in situations. Too, I feel like we both take the bull by the horns and get things done efficiently. Aphrodite is a very upper class rather snooty girl that tells it like it is, and helps Zoey out unexpectedly. Eric Night is Zoey’s crushed ex-beau who believed Zoey cheating on him. This part of the story is leaked from the previous novel.
Through this book Zoey’s largest fear is for her beloved friend Stevie Rae. Stevie Rae is so to speak, “undead,” and wondering how she could lose someone so fast. Zoey also gains friends in return of this. Aphrodite, the twins, and Damien had begun to support Zoey through this. As Stevie Rae’s body rejected the vampire change, and Neferet preserved these individuals and made arrangements for them to live underground in the city. As Stevie Rae lives underground with the other “undead” students, she is accompanied by Stark. Stark and Zoey made a connection on the night he had passed away. Neferet’s intentions of making her dominion of “undead” made of Zoey’s close friends. Neferet then decides to pin a war against humans.
A part I especially liked about the author’s portrayal of Zoey is when the author’s writing makes her sound blunt on how she feels, but respectful of others. Too, this allows readers to have a positive role model. A very good example of the author’s writing is on page 84. I liked how the author explained Zoey’s thoughts of seeing her ex-boyfriend Eric Night again, “My friends babbled about nothing in particular while we walked the rest of the way to the dorms. Everyone studiously ignored the fact that we’d just run into my ex-boyfriend and that it had been really awkward, really awful scene. Or at least for me it had been awkward and awful.”
Something I did not like in this book is the rapid ending to this book. I feel like near the end it was confusing. Later on, Zoey’s grandmother comes to visit her away at the House of Night, and gets into a car accident. Zoey and her grandmother of Native American ancestry, have many tales of evils. These ancient evils leak over into Neferet wanting to use the folk story of, “Kalona,” to come true. The part in particular I did not like was on page, “I was still moving backwards, so I watched in fascinated horror as Neferet approached the newly freed angel. She stopped before him and swept a low, graceful curtsey.” Here in the book, I felt like everything was wrapped up too quickly.
I recommend this book to any young teenage girl from 14 and older would like this series. Any Twilight lover would like these novels too. This book creates a positive influence for this age group; too it is quite funny in its own way.

I'll be honest--I don't like the House of Night books. Never have, probably never will. But will I continue to read them? Certainly. It's because this is a series with a lot of potential if the authors just remove a few elements from it.

Therefore, I was not surprised when I read this and Zoey made even more horrible decisions from the start then wondered "Hey, why didn't that absolutely terrible idea not work out!? I mean, I only had three boyfriends! How could that have gone wrong!?"

I love the message that change is necessary to keep growing, and that being different can be good, and that love and friendship and truth is important above all else. Ok, first! Why this book is called Untamed is beyond me. I never got the meaning.

Second, this book truly deserves every star I gave it. The awkward tension built with the previous book is carried over, and is quickly understood. Finally, the writters make many drastic changes with the characters. No longer relying on the age old "secrets" theme, they instead decide they have introduced us to the world enough.
