If Sophia and James would have sat down and discussed their feelings and what happened, why she left and so on, this story wouldn't even be. I always find that so frustrating, just talk you stupid people and the problem from the past would be solved and you could move on and be happy instead of guessing and being mad at each other.
Lover of Romance
Sophia Dawson, daughter of a pirate, seven years ago fell in love with Pirate Black Hawke, one of the most infamous pirates but when she fell in love, she found she couldn't stay without marriage, and she wanted more than to be his mistress and being shunned by everyone surrounding her, she deserves more than that. Now she is in England, and respectable, and is very close to winning the hand of a Duke, but then James enters into her life once more, and she knows that he can destroy everything th ...more
Sophia left "Black Hawk" James because she asked him to marry him and he said no. Seven years later she wants to marry a respectful man so she would not get scorned and look down on like before when she was the "whore" to Black Hawk. I understood her perfectly and my heart went out to her at first. But! It's hard to feel sorry for a woman who goes weak and can only think about him inside of her everytime he's in a 50 feet radius of her. She wants nothing to do with him then elicts in seducing hi ...more
Reformed, grumpy older pirates. Swashbuckling adventures on the high seas. Former lovers turned enemies with an axe to grind - or in this case, a knife to throw. Unspoken love. Unresolved passion.

This is a fun read. Yes, everything could have been resolved in the first couple of chapters if Sophia and James actually sat down and talked to one another. But not only would that not have been fun, it was also out of their character for both of them. Both James and Sophia are passionate creatures of

Sophia Dawson, daughter of a pirate and a whore, is trying to buy respectability by marrying into nobility. All is going well until her ex-lover, Black Hawk, now known as Captain James Hawkins shows up at the same ball and threatens to "unmask" her; however, if he does, she will unmask him in return. So begins a dance of seduction where Black Hawk does everything he can to make Sophia fall into bed with him. In the meantime, someone is posing as Black Hawk marauding through the shipping lanes an ...more
Remember the old Heinz 57 ketchup commercials with the song "Anticipation" playing while we waited for that first blob of ketchup to hit the food? This book took anticipation to new heights.

Coincidentally my second romance novel set many years after the original relationship started and ended, this book highlights the hypocrisy and restrictiveness of 19th century social conventions. What made this book great was the believability of the main characters reactions to their relationship issues. How
First time reading this author, I liked the book, definitely pulled my emotions out at times. I liked the story overall, It started out great, and the middle kept you going, but it sort of fizzled out for me at the end. I think I was expecting a big bang or something and didn't get it. lol It all ended a little to quickly for me I guess, but it was still good story, and I'll certainly try this author again. :)
