Beast Master, Vol. 1 (Beast Master #1)
Reads R to L (Japanese Style). Taming a Beast was never this dangerous!
Leo Aoi looks like a crazy animal with wild eyes--and no one at his new high school will go near him! He does seem to have a special connection with animals though, which intrigues overzealous animal-lover Yuiko Kubozuka. In reality, Leo isn't as frightening as he appears, but Yuiko finds out that he g

Literally one of the best mangas I've ever read. Better than Fruits Basket, Ouran High School Host Club, MUCH better than Death Note...honestly, it's even better than...wait for it....Soul Eater.

Yeah, I know, it's that good. It's all about animals, which I loved, and Leo is insanely adorable. I MUST BUY THIS! I really hate the cover though, I'm so sick of misleading covers. My parents will see this and think "WTF are you reading?!" And really, I think my mom w...more

A silly concept, but a fun shoujo manga with a sweet side to it.
Yuiko is a normal high school girl who loves animals. She loves them so much that she tends to smother them and chase them away out of sheer survival instinct. One day after driving a cat up a tree, she meets a strange, wild boy named Leo.
Of course, since this is manga Leo winds up in her school as a new transfer student. He's incredibly scary looking, yet gentle. Can Yuiko befriend Leo, especially when he has a bad habit of going...more

I had to get this book after reading about it in a review. It had echoes of Loveless, Volume 1 what with a character named Yuiko and the whole chain imagery. The other main character, Leo, looked a lot like L from Death Note, Volume 1: Boredom.
Yuiko is a ditzy girl who loves animals and is undeterred by the fact that animals don't seem to like her very much. One day, as she's rescuing / getting mauled by a cat who runs up a tree to escape her, she meets Leo, a wild boy covered in blood, who is u...more

If you need something quick and sweet to put you in a good mood then this miniseries would be it. Told from the point of view of, animal lover, Yuiko – Beast Master was one of those shoujo’s with a unique premise but with all the familiar clichés. But before I tell you what I enjoyed about this story I must say I never would have given it a shot if didn’t already love Motomi Kyoususke’s current series Dengeki Daisy but because I do I did give Beast Master a try and am sorry I did not pick it up...more
This is the story of Yuiko, a girl who scares animals and Leo, a boy who scares humans but attracts animals. Leo's looks scare people instantly and even more so when he goes berserk. You see, when Leo see's blood, he blackouts and his primal instincts take over turning him into a raging beast that is unstoppable, that is until Yuiko comes along. She seems to be the only one capable of bringing Leo back when his animal instincts take over.

You know this is my second time reading it. :) The first one is when im on my second year HS. I was a Manga addict way back then I mean, a shoujo manga addict! And this is one of my super favorite manga!! :)) I nearly forgot about this until i found it on goodreads and start missing the story, the characters, and decided to read it again. I thought that i may never like it again the way i like it before because maybe Im older now, you know, but now im reading it again, memories are bringing back...more

I thought Beast Master sounded interesting in the same way that Fruits Basket sounded interesting. It sounded like it would be cute with an interesting twist. I was right about that. I’m pretty eager to keep reading this series.
Yuiko loves animals, but they don’t love her back. She’s a little overbearing and it scares them off. Animals love Leo. They’re attracted to him, and he has some kind of sense that tells him what they want and n...more

It was cute, not as cute as Wild at Heart, but still cute. I'm glad that I finally checked it out of the library, but I am certainly glad that I did not purchase. How many wild rich boys can I really read about? It gets me thinking, what if the roles were reversed? Well, I thiknk there would be an uproar over it, due to gender stereotypes, getting the female to become subdued and subservant to the male, etc. hmmm, not a very good alternative idea. Forget I ever said anything.

AWWWW! Soo cute! Aoi-kun is soo adorable! I just love his naiveness and that loving actions of his! He's so sweet, although he's like really ignorant. Ah! I also like how Yuiko-san isn't a pushover! Non-pushover female main characters are quite few (from the other manga I have read so far) and sometimes, those pushovers make me feel ashamed of being a girl. Like, they have to stand up for themselves and not rely on the male characters (which would NOT be the right flow of the story, but..). This...more
This short series (only two books) was really pleasant to read.
The story is a bit strange, not very plausible, but the characters are touching (though Yuiko was sometimes annoying) and if you are looking for a cute story, then this is all you need to read Beast Master.
It's a typical romance, with some drama, a cute boy and a strong-willed girl, a recipe which is used a lot but which always works if this is what you're looking for.
There is nothing much to say about this manga. It was a good read...more

I will admit that there was something about this manga that makes me feel like it might just become my guilty pleasure manga for a while...
But objectively, I felt like everything in the story was sort of flat/cliche in a fruits basket meets George of the Jungle sort of way. Found myself thinking "seriously?" a lot while reading. But it isn't the worst/most contrived shojo manga I have ever read, I reserve that title for the short-story the author decided to include at the end (even she releases...more

This is another one of those series that I avoided because I thought it was some sort of weird, perverted series. I mean, the title and cover suggest just that. Well, once again I was proven wrong. This is a super cute series involving one of my favorite things- animals! To be honest, I am getting pretty tired of "academy" manga. The setting is overused and the plotlines often end up too similar. While school is a central location in Beast Master, it is not the focus. The focus is on the main ch...more

This manga series is very short (only 2 volumes) and what I like to call a good, fun, "fluff" read. Sometimes you just want to read a light, predictable romance: mission accomplished. Regular girl meets odd boy that everyone else is afraid of...but she sees how truly sweet and special he is. They are quickly drawn to each other and become a happy pair by the end of the short series. She protects him, he protects her, together they're a happy pair. The (happy) end. :)
This is a really short series, which has its advantages and disadvantages. It's hard to get really attached to characters when they're only around for a couple of volumes. At the same time, it makes for a nice, concise story without a lot of the meandering that longer-running stories so often fall victim to. This was cute, but not all that out of the ordinary, despite the weird, violent, animal-like tendencies of Leo, the main male character. Not bad, just not great either.
Oh...my god why everyone looks only on the outside(i mean the appearance ) and not on the inside i was so frustrated but then everything came with just laughter i was laughing of happiness. It was funny and with romance o think its one of my favorite manga. I think the most funniest moment was that Yuiko loves animals and have a clinic for pets but the animals hate her it was very funny....hehehehhehe...Leo helps her in different situations and she helps him to gain friends. The story is kinda c...more
If you are looking for a main girl character that does not cry in the whole volume, you have to read this! For this reason only I think the manga is great. Yuiko is a terrific heroine: does not whine, is nice without being annoying, does not think in boys only **cough as most shoujos girls** and she is funny!
On the other hand, Leo is also a refreshing character: he is sensible (his eyes get watery very easily), he is different (gets violent as a beast, but he is tender with animals); he is very...more

I love this series. I love the author. Shame the series is so short. The artwork for both volumes is great as always by this author and I think it is absolutley adorable. It deals with a girl who is hated by all types of animals. She often tries to help them despite this and she meets a boy who loves animals and there is romance. Which is sweet and oh so corny but I love it anyway. A quick good read.
I love just about everything that Motomi-sensei makes. ESPECIALLY after reading Dengeki Daisy. The artwork is wonderful and the humor is hilarious.
I absolutely love Leo. He's so freaking cute and adorable (when he doesn't flip out and stuff). And the almost innocence that he has is refreshing. Boss is another of my favorites and he always makes me smile.
I will definitely read the next volume because I really can't wait to see where this leads.

I'd forgotten I'd even read this, until I picked it up for a second time and realized I'd already gone through it. Fun story about a gentle girl who befriends a boy at school. He grew up in the wild and doesn't quite behave like a human, but of course (this is a manga, after all) becomes totally attached to her and constantly rescues her from danger. Still, it was a cute story.
A 3.5 stars ^^ pretty good manga~ I bought it coz of the title and synopsis, coz I am very interested with animals in manga haha, not like there's any real one here.
A good short read. I don't know if it applies to all version, but the local version I bought had a one short in the second volume, the cactus story which was hilarious as well XD

Loved this series. Had a great plot. Just enough romance in it. The beast was actually a really cute character in this manga. I just couldn't get over how cute and adorable he was one minute and then how angry and scary he was the next. I have read this series over and over and over. I just can't seem to get enough of these manga.
Beast Master was the first manga I ever read, so I was a little unsure of what to expect when I started it. Surprisingly, it was a lot of fun and the two volumes kept me entertained for a few days. It's ridiculous, but it was written to be ridiculous, and personally, I found it hilarious. A cute read if you ever need a feel-good manga.
This was one of the best mangas i have ever read. I love the drawing style and the character's personalities. The romance between the two characters is very sweet and not forced at all. The story line is hysterical and very well thought. So far i have not been able to find a manga as good as this one.
Very funny story when an animal lover girl never being liked by animals meet a scare looking boy who acts like animal and no one befriend with him except Yuiko. Well, at least there's an animal-like boy never scared of her. While others judge Leo appearance of violence, Yuiko is different when she tried to be friend with Leo. It's quite weird because I don't think we ever meet someone like Leo except if there's any Tarzan anymore. Although Leo is kind of fierce, animals love him and that really...more

Mother f-cker mother f-cker...I cant stand it....Seriously this is too much! I want this story to be real cause its so awesome!!!I want him so bad! Why dear Goddess! WHy??!i feel h-rny when i read this...Seriously no smut here so don't worry;p But i want them to be "couples!"
Honestly I expected much more just because the rating is pretty high for a manga.
Also..I expected more romance..... Me gusta romance. So that was lacking.
ALSO!!! And this is a really big problem for me.. The cover and random pictures of Leo and Yuiko in the manga are so misleading!!!!!!! The pictures are a bit suggestive and so is the cover. Not even close to the content in the actual anime. So that was my problem.
I MIGHT read the 2nd volume.
