Paul and I worked together in St. Louis at Y98 in what became my last year of using...and of radio. We can relate in so many ways as we were both radio personalities who were alcoholics and drug abusers (I left Y98 during May of 2009, and had my last drink and non-prescribed drug on June 3rd, 2009. Paul is a truly gifted personality, so it's no surprise that he was able to write his story in such a compelling, witty and engaging manner. Cook's book is very much in the genre of "I was a disgusting fiend but now I've seen the light." His quest to self-medicate fear and anxiety is detailed with such relentlessness that I got anxious just reading this book. But the painful sincerity of his addictive behavior deteriorates into a string of rote platitudes. By the end of the book, the editor must have gotten bored, because the clumsy grammar and missing punctuation gets very distracting.
