I have a hard time with the 'Between the Numbers' books. I like Stephanie Plum as a character - she is just real enough for you to think - Been there! and yet still gets in situations that are just not possible, which allows for that absurd humor to shine through in the writing. (I am pushing 40 and I have never really blown a car up - I'm just saying.)

That aside, I think this was still worth reading if you are a Plum fan. It's really not a commitment in time because you can whip through it in o...more

There are many things I think of, when I hear the name Stephane Plum. Cupid is not one of them.

I would go to Stephanie Plum for advice on making my hair bigger than Mt Rushmore or what boots might make my husband sweat behind his knees. Relationship advice from the largest commit-phobe in all of Trenton probably would not get me very far.

This is one of the only books where Stephanie doesn't destroy a car and Grandma Mazur manages to not cause hairy-kairy at a funeral, but the laughs abound none...more

What can I say? I love Janet Evanovich, I love the Stephanie Plum series. It is the sole series of books that every single time I read them, they cause me to laugh out loud. Every one of them has been clever and well written and absolutely hilarious.

This is a "between the numbers" book, meaning she just wrote a small Plum book to keep us entertained after releasing #13 recently. In it, Stephanie agrees to help out a match maker with her most difficult clients, one of whom is her sister Valerie's...more

This was a quick read...cover to cover took only about 2 1/2 hours. There wasn't much to it...not a lot of suspense or intrigue or really much interesting. I've been looking forward to reading this author for a long time, not only because she lives in NH but because everyone seems to be reading her stuff. I hope the rest of her books are more interesting than this one! I guess this would be a good beach/pool read...you know, when you're a little bit too distracted to pay attention to elaborate p...more

This book was okay. It was a quick read. I read it today and didn't start reading until 2 this afternoon. And that's with a napping break AND a break to watch the sobfest that is Extreme Makeover Home Edition.

I wouldn't recommend this book to someone who hasn't read any of the books in the series. It just barely explains events and characters from past books.

It also wasn't as funny as previous books in the series. I think that may be because the grandma wasn't featured a lot.

Plum Lovin' by Janet Evanovich is another between-the-numbers novel where Stephanie Plum and Diesel set out on another adventure to corral another unmentionable, Bernie Beaner, is on the loose causing havoc. Diesel shows up at Stephanie's and informs her she now must become a relationship expert until Annie Hart is safe, but Stephanie only has a few days to complete the work.

With another ridiculous cast of characters, Janet Evanovich will have readers giggling and rolling on the floor with laugh...more

Recently, I had the immense delight of reading Plum Lovin’ by Janet Evanovich! I’ve been waiting for this book to come out for what seems like ages, but it really hasn’t been that long. But still, when you desire a book it seems like forever.
I had such fun reading the book, but there is one HUGE problem with it. It’s TOO SHORT!

Plum Lovin’ is a Valentine’s Day novella that takes place between the numbers of the other Stephanie Plum novels. This one takes place between Twelve Sharp and the forthco...more

It’s February, and the bounty hunting business in the Burg is slow. Stephanie Plum has only one FTA, Annie Hart, who’s accused of armed robbery. Stephanie’s attention is soon diverted by her old pal Diesel, who last appeared in “Visions of Sugar Plums.” Diesel tells Stephanie he’ll help her find Annie, but first she’s got to play matchmaker to Annie’s clients so they’ll all have a nice Valentine’s Day. When she’s not with Diesel, Stephanie’s got Lula riding shotgun as they go through the Burg ma...more

Men are like shoes. Some fit better than others. And sometimes you go out shopping and there's nothing you like. And then, as luck would have it, the next week you find two that are perfect, but you don't have the money to buy both.

Personally, I don't get turned on by Valentine's Day, with the sappy cards and creepy cupids and the hearts-and-flowers routine.
- Diesel

I ended up reading this out of order--mostly because I forgot about it. Whoops.

But that's not that much of a problem, because these between-the-numbers books (meaning Visions of Sugar Plums and this one, though I suspect there'll be more forthcoming) are just a wee bit off the series' track. The cast balance is shifted--Ranger and Morelli, and even Grandma Mazur and Lula are relegated to the sidelines, and the focus shifts to mystery man Diesel (we learn in this book that he's an Unmentionable--...more

In the crazy world of Stephanie Plum, it was fun to have the change of direction from bounty hunting and crime solving to match making. Usually I don't feel very connected with the shorter books, but I thought this one grabbed me from the begining and was busy and funny and interesting and then...poof... it was over. It was nice to have a break in this book from the constant love triagle that is "Joe-Ste-Ranger" (hehe.. my own little mash-up). Bring on more Diesel. I just adore him, in some ways...more

I listened to this on audio. It was meant to be a fluffy palate-cleansing sort of read, and it most certainly accomplished that. I wouldn't say it accomplished anything more.

The story was much shorter and less complicated than the numbered volumes. In this, Diesel returns to inform Stephanie that she has to take over for matchmaker Annie Hart, who Stephanie has been trying to track down with no luck. Along the way, she meets skeezy pawn brokers, aged mob bosses, and the usual cast of nutty chara...more

I picked this little book up at the dollar store a few months ago, and just grabbed it off the shelf recently for something quick to read. Knocked it out in a couple hours. I've actually only read the first book in the Stephanie Plum series, which I really enjoyed, so this was a bit out of order. Even so, it didn't really seem to matter and was easy enough to follow even though I hadn't been introduced to some of the characters before.

Reading this book is like reading on speed. It's short shappy...more

Meh. Not bad. It was a simple, quick read with a decent plot. I think the only thing that kept me from giving this book 4 stars was the lack of Joe/Ranger interaction. I know these in between-the-numbers books are written with Diesel in mind, but I would have been happy with a little more somethin' somethin'.

I have to agree with another statement made by another fan. The characters are written a little out of context, and i guess when i say characters, i really mean ranger. there is a scene in...more

Evanovich can churn out hilarious novels with barely realistic situations and wonderfully vivid characters. That's one of the reasons why I got hooked on her Stephanie Plum series.^^^^But the Plum series is getting a bit tired now, there's only so many times Stephanie can get kidnapped, or be in danger of being killed/kidnapped, with Morelli (her cop.. err.. bf?) and Ranger (bounty hunter mentor with sexual interests) saving her ass until it just gets really... boring, sorry to say. Oh and the a...more

I enjoy the wacky characters from the Stephanie Plum series, but this time I had a lot of fun watching Plum go through the paces as a matchmaker. Her quarry is a "relationship expert" who refuses to be brought in until her last four cases are completed before Valentine's Day.

So Stephanie starts to work to help a harried older woman find a man, to help a butcher who has a crush with the coffee baristra across the street, to help a virgin get deflowered, and to help her sister's boyfriend make it...more

You know those "super specials" from the chapter books of our childhood, the ones that came out while we were anxiously awaiting the next installment of the series? You know how the timeline was vague enough that you could squeeze the specials between any of the volumes and have it fit- and how our favorite characters could go on totally off-the-wall adventures that might not necessarily make any sense- but WHO CARES, it was like bad fanfiction and we ate it up? and you know how they could be ei...more

Most people do not like the in between books and complain about the length and price. I rather liked this one because it was funny some of the conversations that took place were pretty funny. I normally give the Plum books 4 stars and this is the first time I really loved the book. Nothing bad happened to Stephanie and I liked the change of pace. Stephanie had to play matchmaker for her FTA before she could capture her as per a deal with Diesel. No cars blowing up, no kidnapping, no fights, and...more

My ratings system is as follows. One star is GOOD. The book is entertaining, easy to read and you don't want to stop reading because something about the book is compelling you not to. Two stars is GREAT! This time the story is not only entertaining, but highly creative, unique, easy to read and hard to put down. Three stars is EXCELLENT. Here the book has all aspects of one and two stars, but now the book is thought and emotionally provoking. Four is AWESOME. This is the read that is not only cr...more

A friend brought me a bunch of books, including several of the Stephanie Plum novels, none of which I had read. I chose to read this one first simply because it wasn't numbered (it's a "Between-the-Numbers Novel") and figured I could get caught up on the characters easier.

Janet Evanovich writes simply, easily and makes for a nice, breezy read. I can see why she has such a following. Stephanie Plum, Lula, Grandma Mazur, mom, Ranger and Morelli are wonderfully fun and quirky characters who invite...more

Frankly, for this Between-the-Numbers book Evanovich is just “phonin’ it in.” The usual cast of zany supporting characters is here – Lula, Grandma Mazur, etc – and the mysterious Diesel makes a return appearance. Stephanie plays matchmaker between several couples; she even succeeds in pulling off a surprise wedding – the bride and groom don’t even know about it! While I’m still mildly entertained by the wackiness, Stephanie’s basic ineptness has lost its charm for me. On the plus side, Stephanie...more

February’s cold made the bail bonds office slow, Stephanie Plum only had one, Annie Hart, that she needed to track down. To get Annie Hart, Stephanie had to make a deal with a handsome and funny ‘unmentionable’ tracker, Diesel. All that was needed was to help him play Cupid for Valentines Day while he tracked another. Helping strangers find true love may not have been as easy as she had originally thought, but with Diesel and Bob the dog, it is not dull.

First Stephanie Plum book for me. Comedy i...more

I finally read a Janet Evanovich book! But, I have to admit that I bought this at the Dollar Tree. Sorry, Janet, I hope you got more than a nickel from my purchase!

I had no idea what to expect from this thin, purple book; it attracted my attention because of Janet's name, and the fact that it's under 200 pages (a quick read for my list!). It's a fun story though, and perfect for this sweetheart season.

Stephanie Plum is an interesting protagonist. I picked up a second book at the Dollar Tree, Ele...more

I'm not sure that I liked this book. It was like eating a chocolate chip cookie when you really want chocolate cake. Sure, it tastes good... but it's not really what you want. I wanted Ranger, but instead got handed some dude named Diesel, who doesn't show up in any books besides these little novellas.

I like the storyline just fine, but I didn't like the supernatural side to it. It doesn't fit with the rest of the series. I almost feel like Evanovich said "I wonder if I can write paranormal roma...more

I'm only on page 7, but...
I thought this would be an easy read because its a "between the numbers" book & I wouldn't need to know what has happened in previous books in the series, but unfortunately, by page 7, I know Stephanie & Joe are a "thing" (I knew it would happen, but thought I'd get to be there while it happened) & it's serious enough that she takes care of his dog. In the first page, there's a "magical" being. This is not what I read Stephanie Plum novels for! But I'm readi...more

sucked. I used to enjoy these books, but I'm not sure what changed: either my literary tastes have evolved or else the author is just churning these books out to make some dolla billz.

Stupid premise: Stephanie Plum, bail bondswoman, is looking for a woman (a relationship expert), but a 'colleague' of Ms. Plum has this expert and won't hand her over until Stephanie helps solve the romantic problems of five of the relationship experts' clients. ???? What? Sounds exactly like real life to me. Obvi...more

A friend recommended the Stephanie Plum series to me as a quick, fun series and she is right. Easy to breeze through, with constant references to NJ where I was born and raised, makes for a light fun quasi-mystery series that is easy to read while working out on the machines at the gym. Plum Lovin' is just that - light and breezy, quick to read and just a little fluff.

No WAR AND PEACE here, but if you are looking for diversion from watching the minutes tick by on the elliptical, treadmill or bik...more

“Stephanie,' Valerie said. 'She's going to have a baby, and she's getting married.'
My father was confused. He looked around the room. No Joe. No Ranger. His eyes locked on Diesel. 'Not the psycho,' he said.
Diesel blew out a sigh.
My father turned to my mother. 'Get me the carving knife. Make sure it's sharp.”
