He did it again!
As if to deliberately taunt me, Spradlin again gets basic facts wrong, spoiling my enjoyment of the rest of the book.
Not a dozen pages into the second book, a group of Cathers sit down to an evening meal and start mowing down on roast chicken like they were at KFC. So wrong.
One of the first things the most cursory of research on the Cather religion will turn up is that they were very strict vegetarians. It’s an odd thing to get wrong, consi...more

My son recommended this middle grade series to me, and as usual, he has impeccable taste! I loved this series, although book two, Trail of Fate, was my favorite. Using midieval history as a backdrop, this action-packed series takes readers into the Third Crusade through the eyes of a 15-year old boy who becomes the squire to a Templar. Fabulous characters (including King Richard the Lionheart and other familiar names), excellent pacing, and fun twists and turns. I read all three books in two day...more
This book continues Tristan and company's quest to protect and safely deliver the Holy Grail. This installment is even more action-packed than the first, and it becomes more interesting as the characters develop and more vital characters are introduced.
Upon meeting Celia, Tristian becomes completely enamored. She is so sweet and noble and somewhat defenseless without him, that he swears an oath to protect her, which in some ways contradicts his quest with the Grail. Meanwhile, Robard a...more

***spoiler alert*** The second book of the trilogy finds Tristan and his cohorts on the journey back to England. After being shipwrecked on the shores of France, some French heretics gum up the works and are a big, fat distraction leading to more trouble for Tristan, Robard & Maryam. Sir Hugh, the Duke of Slime, catches up to them and locks them up in the dungeon of one of the King's summer castles. Thanks to his conveniently brilliant stray dog, Tristan and the buds escape the dungeon. To facili...more
This is the sequel to the Youngest Templar and part of an ongoing series. Like the first one, it's well written and paced, and a fast read. I really like the characters; they're flawed and make errors in judgement, and am hooked on this series because I really needed another ongoing series that finishes every book on a cliffhanger. I'm intrigued as to the bigger picture of this and who Tristan really is. There are hints but nothing concrete in some of the comments made, but he's definitely more ...more
Another great book with a lot of historical fantasy feel to it. I love the Spradlin doesn't preach with the teaching instead makes it fun.
Again I didn't like that it just ends on this major cliffhanger, but I really do believe that after this whole series is done it'll be great! I feel that way because the second book just picks up from the first and doesn't really offer any real insight from the first book so it might be confusing and the time involved between books might confuse t...more

The tale of Tristan, a young squire of the Knights of the Templar, continues. At the end of KEEPER OF THE GRAIL, the first book in the series, Tristan's fate was in question as he sailed into a horrible storm. Book #2 begins as Tristan wakes to discover that he has survived, but he doesn't know where he has washed ashore or what is in store for him.

Another page turner. Tristan's adventures continue as he heads home to England to bring the Holy Grail back from the Holy Lands. Tristan finds himself washed ashore after the ship he and his friends are traveling on sinks. Eventually he is reunited with his friends, Robard the archer, and Maryam, an assassin. In their travels they are faced with a group of Cathars, the soldiers of the oppresive Frnch king and Sir Hugo and the Templar Knights. A fantastic book 2 in this series.

John Flanagan's Ranger's Apprentice series has spoiled me. All the other wanna be books fall short of achieving what Ranger's Apprentice delivers book after book.
I'd recommend it only if you finished reading all of the 9 books from Ranger's Apprentice series and have nothing else to go for. Even then, you could go on to Brian Jacques's Red Wall series. So, yes. It' was OK, but I've come to expect more and better.

I loved the first book and so the second kind of threw me when Tristan went of course so much from what I thought would happen. For me, this book was enjoyable just because Spradlin is a great author and writes books that make you want to keep reading, but as a whole, as a part of the trilogy, I wasn't into it. And oftentimes when I was reading, it felt like Tristan was a girl.
Agghhhhh! It can't end there! I love the adventure with Tristan, Myram, Robard, and Angel. We are still in the dark about Tristan's past, but meeting the Queen was a great ending to book two to push me on to book three. I don't want to give anything up, so not much in the way of a review here.
I do have to say, I love the historical fiction. I wish we had more historical fiction novels. I think my middlel school students would love the story and the adventure.

Tristan, Maryam, and Robard continue their journey and Tristan gives his word to help beautiful Celia against the High Council. It is a good lesson about not giving your word lightly (which Tristan doesn't) and keeping your promises. Maryam and Robard are sassy together and the romance is blooming.
We catch up with the young squire Tristan off the coast of France, where his ship has capsized. He still has possession of the Grail and must keep it safe at all costs. When he becomes involved with a renegade group of Cathars, he must choose between them and the Grail. Will Tristan make the right choice? An exciting continuation of this new series for grades 5 and up. -Cathy
I realize Tristan lived with monks...but some of his reactions to Callie were quite hair brained. It was really abrupt to have the author just fabricate a romantic relationship between Maryam and Robard; it was just out of the blue!
And for all you really confused people out there, no this wasn't a romance. But subplot have a right to be examined as well ;)

Really good sequel. It kept the interest and excitment roling. Introduced in characters both historical and fictional such as the Carthar Celia and the Eleanor of Aquitaine
I really liked this book two in the series about a young squire who is entrusted with the Templars' holiest relic, the Holy Grail. I am looking forward to book 3!
I thought the plot of this story was intriguing, but lacking in character development. I liked the heroic side of Tristan, the main character. I was hoping for more medeival twists, because sometimes it seemed the book took place in more of the present time.
Really enjoyed the story; looking forward to the next book.
4.25!
a great adventure and page turner.
love all the characters!

i loved it though it was a total cliff hanger.
I have really enjoyed this series so far! Even though all the books end in a really annoying way! But I still like them! I also like how even though these books were written to take place during the Crusades the language and humor it was easy to understand. (And really funny!)
This is the Robin Hood segment of the series. Robard is my favorite character. I think I liked this book the best out of the three.
Three words I hate: To Be Continued. Enough said.
The whole "Robard" and "Maryam" thing started to get on my nerves before it was done but I am still really enjoying this story.
And I am glad that I am coming to this series late. Don't have to wait too long for book three!
