I love the theme of the h being an indentured servent and going from riches to rags and I think that Kat Martin did a good job with it. I also loved that it was set in Louisianna and on a plantation.
Nicole St. Clair (h) had it all until her father lost everything and died shortly after, her mother died just after her father, and at 15 she couldn't think of anyother way of surviving so she sold her self into indentured servitude to a family friend and it was only for a few years. That...more

This was a great read from start to finish. I adored the hero and the heroine wasn't your typical twit bodice ripper heroine that I've come to expect. The most annoying alpha hero's to me are the ones that put their foot down and then give in when the heroine stomps on that foot - Alex says what he means and means what he says with no questions asked.

Lame. That would be this book in a nutshell. What a tease. It was so great at the beginning and i was really excited to think what might happen in the middle and end. If this book were being read aloud i probably would have starting boooooing. The main characters had as much depth as my daughters kiddy pool. The hero or rather supposed to be, was more like a pedophile. If you want a good read, go to about page 30 then create your own ending.
This book bored me to death. I got so sick of the slave/not slave, marriage/not marriage. I have seen too many romance novels like this where the heroine always wants to marry and the hero just wants a mistress and "proper" wife suited to his great wealth and standing. Nikki constantly running away got pretty old, too.
My biggest disappointment was I paid $7 to download on my kindle for a book from the 90's and realized half way through that I had already read it about 5 or 7 years ago. Good news was that I didnt have to put it down because it was bad. It was nice reading it again and not a let down in that respect. Just not happy spending that much money on it. On to another book............
