The Linda Craig Adventures, which originally came out in the '60s but got spiffy new covers in the 80s, was a delightfully silly Nancy-Drew-with-a-horse type stories. Here, recently orphaned 16-year-old Linda Craig (what is it with orphans as heroes in kids books?) meets the horse of her dreams -- Chica d'Oro, an equine version of Albert Einstein. She's half Arabian and half American Saddlebred, which today would be called National Show Horse but was just called a half- Arab back in the 1960s. ...more

I didn't know this series existed but as a child I read the Mystery of Horseshoe Canyon and found the series.

This story starts with Linda and her brother living with their grandparents at the Rancho Del Sol. She wants a horse that she can train. The mystery is that a friend sees strange lights at the edge of the ranch and tells Linda's grandfather. Stopping in at an Indian friend's cabin, Linda spies a young palomino that she names Chica D'Oro (Golden Girl). The horse becomes hers. Her grandfath

My parents recently brought out the last of my childhood books from the family homestead. Amongst the horse-focused YA novels (of which there are many), I found this absolutely dreadful tale of a girl and her obsession with a palomino pony. Or one that would so *get* you that every thought, nuance and desire ...more

I read this a long time ago as a kid. When my brother worked at the library, he discovered it and thought I would enjoy it as I was - and am! - an extreme bookworm. I remember liking it the best out of the entire series. It is a good book for young readers who like mystery and horses.

Believe it or not, I did not enjoy this book emough to give it three stars! I normally can't keep myself from reading/rereading horse stories for kids. This one didn't feel overly realistic or unrealistic. It was kind of like, what were they thinking?!?

I loved this series as a child. Many of these books held a place of honor on my bookshelf alongside Nancy Drew, Trixie Belden, The Bobsey Twins and the Hardy Boys.
