This is a great photo book. I first discovered Eve Arnold when I saw her informal portraits of Marilyn Monroe. A selection of those are included here, along with other famous names from Elizabeth Taylor to Malcolm X. But Eve was a photojournalist for the Magnum agency, and some of her best work featured ordinary folk from around the world. She had a gift for capturing people off-guard, but never removing their dignity, and this book is both a pleasure to look at and a vivid social record of the ...more
