I loved Skeleton Creek and could not wait to read Ghost in the Machine after the cliffhanger ending of Skeleton Creek. I managed to read this book and watch all of the videos in a day because it is so entertaining and amazing.

In a way Ghost in the Machine reminded me a little of the movie Disturbia because it's so full of suspense that you have to keep reading it to know wants going on.

So many of the videos were creepy and I started reading this at midnight, alone in my room and it was pretty f...more

The themes in Ghost in the machine are bravery and defiance Some examples of bravery are when Sarah and Ryan go back to the dredge even though it was haunted by "Joe Bush". Sarah and Ryan are defiant when Sara and Ryan keep going behind their parents backs doing the investigating at the dredge. What the author is trying to say about bravery is that you can still be brave even when you are scared, and you can do anything. With defiance, nothing really good can come through that unless you are usi...more

There are many interesting stories but only some are intriguing and compelling. This quarter i read the skeleton creek trilogy.
Ryan is housebound after he's seriously injured in a fall in an old dredge out in the woods that no one in town wants to talk about. He's also forbidden to have anything to do with his best friend, Sarah. But both have found and disabled their parents' monitoring software and are communicating by email, as Sarah continues their dangerous investigation and sends Ryan link...more

In this sequel to Skeleton Creek we once again meet the best friends Ryan and Sarah who still isn't allowed to meet each other. After Ryan has broken his leg, his parents thinks that Sarah only leads him in trouble and they don't want to him to see her again. It's for his own good. Skeleton Creek Ghost in the Machine
By: Patrick Carmen

In this book there are two main characters. Their names are Ryan and Sarah. Sarah and Ryan have been best friends for a long time, but because of what they have been up to they are no longer allowed to hang out. Sarah is kind of the super hero and Ryan is her side kick. Sarah takes most of the risks and Ryan writes it all down in a journal. Ryan has a broken leg so that is another reason why he cannot take as many risks as he would like to....more

Ghost in the Machine has tough act to follow about Skeleton Creek and in some ways it lacked the ompf factor.

Just as Skeleton Creek we follow Ryan and Sarah uncover the mystery of the dredge number 42 haunted by the ghost of Joe Bush—or is it really him…?

The intricacy of the book is still here as well as the fear. Every last detail counts in this series as we go back and forth trying to uncover what really happened. Ghost in the Machine is the final book in this exciting series and the ending of...more

A bit stronger than the first book, partially in the fact that online videos actually support, provide evidence, and expand upon the story instead of merely portraying Sarah just talking to Ryan. You actually miss more by missing the videos, which I guess is why it irritated me that the videos often didn't work! I had to refresh the website several times to get some of them to play. That being said, while the simple journal-style text of this story doesn't really stand on its own, in combination...more

After reading the first story (Skeleton Creek), I knew I had to read the second one to see how the mystery ending because the first book ending rather abrudtly. This book finished the mystery of the first book which had a nice ending to it. The videos got a little scarier and more surprising each time which kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. I believe I finished this book faster than the first one and read the third one in the same weekend! I love these books and the mystery b...more

Very much fun. It took me a while to get back to this. It seems I've decided that these books are best when I have a stretch of time at home, when the mood is right and when I'm within reach of the computer. The format is so different for me and its so much fun that I'm reserving them for fun time, lol. The videos add such an immediacy and involvement in the story. It's exciting. I didn't grow up with the internet and as amazed as I've been at what it offers in regard to information I've been sl...more

I really enjoyed this book because it's connects media with writing. The style of writing is easy to read, and while I - as an adult - I got a lot of the references from the passwords, some of them I did not and I was interested enough to look them up. I think kids will have the same reaction. I also liked how much history is added to the books. Very fascinating!

The ending was a bit predictable. I had a feeling the person who ended up being responsible for it was earlier in the book, so I wasn'...more

After reading Skeleton Creek yesterday, I couldn't wait to read Ghost today. It was just as involving and pulled me in as completely as the first book. I really enjoyed toggling back and forth between Ryan's journals and Sarah's videos. I feel jealous of kids today that have this sort of story available to them. When I was a kid, this sort of multimedia presentation wouldn't have been possible. We didn't have computers at home - we didn't even have computers at school until our high school years...more

In this sequel to SKELETON CREEK, Ryan continues his journal of the events that occurred when he and his best friend, Sarah, try to uncover all the mysteries surrounding the dredge on the edge of their town. Just like the last book, Sarah's entries are shown in a video format via a website and password. As the duo digs deeper into the mystery, they find more and more connections between the secrets of the dredge and people in town, including Ryan's dad. Not as scary as the first book, GHOST IN T...more

I LOVE THIS BOOK TOO!!! this is the second in the series (first was skeleton creek) and there is supposed to be another...i hope. i would really recommend these books to any person who likes a book that would make them on the edge of their seat and not want to stop reading. they aren't very hard to read but they are very fun. one thing that you cant do with these books is skip a video, even if there is just a little reading until the next one don't skip that video because the videos really do he...more

Sarah Fincher and her friend Ryan, two 15 year olds, return in this Skeleton Creek sequal looking for answers to the cryptic room they found in the town dredge. The Ghost of Joe Bush is now stalking them as a warning to stay away. The more Sarah digs around for answers the more suspicious everyone appears to be. Once again everything appears connected. All this snooping around only leads them into trouble.

A fantastic engaging concept for young readers. In an age where lap tops have become our c...more

WOW! This was the second digi novel read. After I read " Level 26," I needed to read this written for youth to see comparisons of style, digi portion, and story content. What a total surprise! The digi portion was quality acting and presentation. The short movies followed the book with great consistency. Augmentation was a success!
The book is an easy read, but continues to hold interest. This is from an adults point of view. The more important review needs to come from youth.
The only puzzle...more

"Ghost in the Machine" by Patrick Carman was a gripping book full of suspense. The author and story line constantly keeps you on the edge of your chair, wanting more. Being the second book in the Skeleton Creek series, the main characters, Ryan and Sarah dig deeper into their town's secret. They start to investigate the secret society of the town and what they initially find may be scary...but the rewards are much better than expected. This book is perfect for anyone who is interested in a myste...more

Finished up Book 2. I liked that the ending actually WAS a surprise ending for me; I didn't see it coming. It's amazing how many pages I'm getting through in the couple of weeks since we got rid of cable TV. ;o)------------------------Did the first book, "Skeleton Creek", as a new read aloud this year and my 7th graders went BONKERS for it! Even got one boy who "HATES!!!" reading to want the second book so badly that his mom bought it for him--heck yeah!! Started reading aloud this book, but the...more

Sara and Ryan try to escape from the dredge , when they did they saw the ghost writing this “Don't make me come looking for you”. Ryan and Sarah are best friends, they are trying to uncover the mystery in the dredge, even when they are banned from speaking to each other. They didn’t have time because the town has decided that the dredge is so dangerous that they are going to burn it down. Ryan discovers that his dad is one of the crossbones. At the end of the story, Sara and Ryan finds gold in th...more

Wow. I enjoyed this ride so much. I'm not sure if I said this in my review of Skeleton Creek already, but these two books combined the experiences of watching a horror film and reading a thriller/mystery at the same time. Internet access required!

Even though the intended audience is young adults, I recommend this to adult YA fiction-lovers. Has elements to satisfy film-junkies, bloggers, writers, lit majors, horror fanatics, people into alchemy, ghost stories, and research...basically every var...more

I thought that this book was pretty good until the ending. It got really confusing when they started discovering things out about the dredge. This book was about two kids who wanted to discover the dredge that they had in their town. But while at the dredge they thought that there was a ghost. The boy broke his leg and they believed that the ghost did it. But they knew there was something weird going on about the dredge. So they narrowed it down to a couple people to figure out the problem. Towa...more

The book ghost in the machine is a vary good book it is untrusting and filled with information about how Ryan and his friend can not spend time with each other and he has to find out to comunacate with her the use email and the purple rock he put a note on the rock so she can read it then she rites back. The book Ryan has a shattered leg and has a boot on and it hurts to walk for long periods of time Ryan is smart because he puts a camera in longhorns to spy on a secret meeting he is smart becau...more

The first book in the series laid a nice foundation, but the action and mystery really amped up with this second book. I do have a huge complaint, but it's not with the story itself. When the book calls for the reader to watch the corresponding video, it should always be printed on the right-hand leaf, so you must turn a page after watching the video. When the instructions are printed on the left side, it's too easy to accidentally glance at the next diary entry, which sometimes spoils the video...more

Before I read this, I heard of some people complaining about the "Scobby-doo" ending. I had no idea what this mean. Loving the first book (I gave it five stars) I picked up this one. This one isn't as suspenseful as the first one, but a cool thing was that I got to see more of the characters. The guy who played Darryl Bonner is my favorite, and I suppose whoever played Ryan's Dad is an OK actor too.
If I seem to like this so much, why did I give it only two stars? Because of the ending. It sucked...more

Ryan and Sarah continue to communicate secretly through e-mail and their secret blue rock. Pace quickens as they come closer to discovering the secrets of the secret society, the crossbones, the symbols, and the dredge. The internet links are more important in this second book because little is written about what the videos contain. This book doesn't have a cliffhanger at the end like the first book, but there is room for a third book, "The Crossbones" and a fourth is coming. Rec for middle or hi...more

GHOST IN THE MACHINE starts up right where SKELETON CREEK left off - in the secret room of the dredge with the ghost of Joe Bush staring down at them. It has all the same creepy videos, wonderful references to great literature and an original mystery and thriller. SKELETON CREEK was a really great introduction to the characters and story, and GHOST IN THE MACHINE was the perfect sequel, bringing the mystery to a shocking close.

Patrick Carman has given kids a wonderful series of books to enjoy....more
