I read Regency romances avidly. This is among the most delightful I've read this year. You must read this book. The characters are charming, well-defined and believable. The plot has depth and substance, but is not gratuitously intricate. You read on to find out what happens next page after page. The interactions between hero and heroine are delightful, unexpected, revealing and endearing. And, ladies, Ms. Cabot can write a blistering love scene that is altogether proportionate and natural, not...more

This was one of my first books in the romance genre and I was a little bit skeptical – but the rage reviews convinced me to give it a try. I'm so glad - it was wonderful! One of my favorite books ever!

Lady Caroline Linford is a great heroine and I suspect that she’s drawn generic so that the reader can see herself as Caroline. Caroline is engaged to the Marquis of Winchilsea and in the first chapter Caroline walks in on him and another woman. Unfortunately, Victorian society do not allow for a b...more

This story had a cute premise, and was nicely written. The rich but low-born hero knows his daughter-of-a-duke fiancee is cheating on him, but he can't find out who, so he can break off the engagement without getting sued for breach of contract and losing wads of money. The heroine discovers her fiance the marquis shagging the duke's daughter, but won't tell the hero who his fiancee is cheating with because she's afraid the hero will shoot him. (The hero is a dead shot and an up-from-the-gutters...more

(I seem to giving all the books I've read recently 4 stars...)

I have always loved Meg Cabot's work and I've read all of it (apart from the Allie Finkle series - which I'm probably not going to read as it's aimed towards tweens, so it's a bit young). But, for some reason I've never read any of the novels she wrote under her pen name Patricia Cabot. I will not make that mistake again!

Educating Caroline is the first of Patricia Cabot's novels that I've read and I loved it! For one thing, the hero...more

Absolutely delightful!

Educating Caroline was a perfectly wonderful romance. Georgette Heyer she ain't, but Meg (whoops, "Patricia") Cabot knows how to tell a good story. The main character isn't always rational, and Lord knows no one else is either, but because she's not a flighty idiot like so many historical romance heroines, I'm willing to forgive any craziness. Plus, the cover illustration is sheer awesome (all the best parts of 'chick lit,' none of the bad bits). I'm looking forward to requ...more

These 3 stars are a stretch. It actually goes to a mystery in this book, a thing I usually skim over to read about H/h's feeeelings.

Heroine was annoying. She finds out pretty nasty thing about her fiancee and she still doesn't call of the wedding. She has a horrid mother. I honestly wanted to smack her. Caroline follows her mother's advice to learn how to seduce her cheating fiancee when they both should be kicking his ass to the curb.

Braden seems stupid. For the sake of the plot he doesn't pu...more

This was pretty much an adult/romance version of every Cabot book I've ever read (and I've read many a Cabot book).

It was adorable, funny, but not overly original...still it was enjoyable.

My only problem is the predilection Cabot has for a certain construction...ever other page there was the:

"Oh, I didn't mean it. The insult that is." or

"Well I did it. Slept with a tall dark and handsome stranger that is." or

"He told me. The truth that is."

I am so effing through with that construction, and Cabot...more

Wow, wow, oh wow!! This was the best historical romance read by Patricia Cabot (Meg Cabot) evah!!

Story goes...Caroline saw her fiance in another woman's arms. Unlike any other woman freaking out, instead she finds herself lacking and therefore decides to seek help from an expert...Braden Granville. He teaches her how to seduce a man, keep a man and saddle that man for life...but throughout the times they spent together, there's no denying the attraction between them. Braden also feels strongly f...more

I'm rereading some old favourites because there aren't many new releases that appeal at the moment. Long before author Meg Cabot became a famous YA author of books like The Princess Diaries, she wrote sexy adult historical romances under the pseudonym Patricia Cabot. Educating Caroline is a hidden gem which deserves to be a lot better known than it is.

Lady Caroline Linford is an intelligent but naive society Miss who has recently become engaged to the man who saved her brother's life. But at a b...more

Meg Cabot is one of my favorite authors, but I'd never read any of her books under the name Patricia Cabot so I decided to give them a try. While still Cabot and a fun read, I think I prefer her modern books to these purely romances.
Having said that, there is a lot to enjoy in a Cabot romance novel. The writer, after all, is still Cabot and she creates entertaining characters and tells a good story.

Brief plot summary: a Victorian era betrothed woman accidentally sees her promised in a very comprimising position on the couch with another woman in the middle of a dinner party. Torn about canceling the wedding because her fiancé saved her brother's life in the past, the heroine sets out to win his heart by requesting lessons in seduction from a notorious rake.

I really enjoyed aspects of this book, and even chuckled a few times. However, I felt it could have been trimmed down about 100 pages i...more

This book was simultaneously silly and predictable as well as fun and engaging. There is really nothing original in most romance novels. They follow the same basic arc: girl meets boy, they fall in love yet face obstacles, love triumphs, HEA. This novel is no different and the events that set the whole thing in motion were slightly absurd, yet I liked it. There is something comforting in the predictable, and Patricia Cabot at develops her characters rather than having generic placeholders.

To be perfectly honest I have had this book for so long but I haven't bothered to read it (really unusual for me) even though Meg Cabot is one of my favourite authors. I read it for a competition between my friend and I to see who reads the fastest. Surprisingly it wasn't all too bad XD I love historical romance with a dash of humour and this was all of those in one :D

Repulsive. This is another example of how people think about sex today. Yes: I said sex in a review. All I had to do was read the first part of the first chapter and I wanted to throw up. It's such a shame because I love her style of writing and the prologue was incredibly suspenseful in a totally different way that you would ever think that someone writing a romance novel would start.
Vicky
I never thought I would enjoy a novel of this type, i.e. historical romance. But I simply love Meg Cabot's writing style, regardless of the genre. I loved the characters in this book, especially Caroline and Braden. Their intense attraction for each other is compelling yet playful and not full of cliches and sappy dialogue.
Jenn
A better than average historical romance. The plot is that Caroline seeks sensual tutelage from a notorious rake. Plenty of potential for hokiness and eye-rolling but this was fun and there was wit in this writing. If you didn't know, this is a pseudonym for Meg Cabot. Give it a shot, it is not what you expect.
Meg
The leading character, Caroline, is dimwitted and unrealistic. I found this novel to be lame. The premise of the story is unrealistic. I would recommend this the same friends who read the magazine People or InTouch. Yes it is that vapid. I realize some people disagree with me and I fully respect that.

I enjoyed this novel, however, knowing beforehand that this book was bound to contain some sexual scenes I was still a little put off by how eager everyone was to get it on. I mean REALLY. Did her nipples need to be hard every 5 seconds? I understand this is a work of fiction but some realism could be kept, not to mention that the setting in which this book is written. I'm sure she would have had some decency before allowing herself to turn into such a slut - as the current time would have calle...more

Not an original plot by any stretch of the imagination, but it's humourous and enjoyable and simply reeks of Meg's own brand of wit and humour.

I loved the hero immensely, and while I did like the heroine, she did have a tendancy to swing between awesome and headstrong to TSTL, so she did grate on my nerves at times.

3.5/5 for a great historical romance that covers just about every tone you could ask for :)

In junior high and early high school, I was a die-hard fan of Meg Cabot's "Princess Diaries" series. Much to my feigned 15-year-old chagrin, this book, along the other "Patricia Cabot" titles, was basically soft-core porn, a sad excuse for a romance novel.
Denise
Fun, witty, romantic read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and just adored the characters. I kinda hoped there was going to be a sequel with Caroline's brother and her best friend. It seemed like they had sparks, but he was just too young.
Braden was the best out of the lot of characters in this story. I just loved how hard and fast he fell for Caroline.
Katie
I want every romance novel to be as charming as this one. Finally a heroine who doesn't fall dead when she SEES the hero. Finally a hero who is a self made man instead of born into money.

The dialogue was awesome, the premise amusing.
Linda
I read this book because Goodreads suggested it based on some chick-lit I had read. Well, this was really more like soft porn than chick-lit, not really my thing.....formulaic, predictable and just kinda stupid. Some racy sex scenes kept it interesting, but I am done with this author.

I am a huge fan of Patricia (Meg) Cabot and try to buy every one of her books! I have yet to be disappointed. This book is well written and it just makes you want to keep reading to find out what happens next!

Before reading this book, I never realized that Patricia Cabot was Meg Cabot (author of Nicola and the Viscount and Victoria and the Rogue, which, while YA, I totally enjoyed..). I was therefore really excited to read Educating Caroline, and although it's pretty predictable, you can't help but love the chemistry between Caroline and Braden: I found it lighthearted and sweet, and thoroughly enjoyable... Definitely not my last book by Patricia Cabot!

I liked it. My only reservation is that it is a bit sexual for the ones that might be uncomfortable by that. Other than that it was a passionate story with a thrilling plot and adorable ending. I found the end of the book truely satisfying that I don't usually find in books. It was a good read :)
Rachel
This is a cute historical, but it didn't pull me in at all. I constantly battled between what I know of history and what the author wanted me to believe.
Marigabi
It was a really funny book! I had a great time reading it. So if you want to have a laugh with a romance book, I recommend this one!

loved it but the ending wasn't as satisfying as it should be, it should have been a sad ending.hha just an opinion
