REVIEW
The Faery Rebels series is addicting. Wayfarer takes place 15 years after Spell Hunter and the Oak is in great danger. A dying queen leaves the faeries powerless and vulnerable.
A tough little faery named Linden sets out to find the missing powers. Even though Linden was only fifteen, the entire Oak was counting on her.
A human named Timothy, who is unsure of himself, becomes Linden’s partner. Over time, Timothy gains confidence and learns to trust the faeries. His transformation was More...

A Book review of Wayfarer by R.J Anderson
By Shehreen, Grade7, Yangon International School

they might face. Everything cannot be puffed away by pixie dust. When a quest reveals,
the problem is too dangerous to ignore or eliminate, will she be able to succeed? Will
she able to save her beloved ones before it’s too late? R.J Anderson answers these
questions in his novel Wayfarer. More...

I started this book off not really knowing what it was about. Because I won this book (thanks Saundra Mitchell!) I didn’t bother to read the jacket summary over before I started it. I read it once, but my memory fades really easily…

At once though, I liked Timothy. Even though this is a book about faeries and magic, he seemed real to me. Don’t get me wrong, I love supernatural hot guys in books, but Timothy was different. He was human, but his thoughts and actions were down-to-earth. More...

In the beginning I was hesitant is reading this book because honestly, there are so many fairy books out there these days. I just wondered if this book would be able to step away from there and shine in its own light. I’m happy to report that it did!

Anderson created such a magical world in the Oackenfolk’s home and in Britain as well. Anderson’s fairy world is one that I have never read about and that makes it all the better. Linden is an amazing character, very well developed and ver More...

Reason for Reading: Next in the series.

Wayfarer continues the story started in Spell Hunter (Knife UK). The publisher has upgraded the recommended age range to YA which I find more appropriate, though this book is tamer than the first. The story however, if very detailed and intricate.

The entire cast of book 1 returns, including Knife and Paul but this time the main characters are Linden and Paul's nephew, Timothy. Now that the Queen is on her deathbed it is time to find More...

A sweet, charming tale filled with Faeries, faith and hope. (very close to Aprilynne Pike’s blurb on the cover, but it’s true!)

Linden is a tree faery, part of the Oakenfolk. Despite her young age she is chosen by the Queen to find a way to restore magic to the Oakenfolk. In her search for the lost magic she finds Timothy and together they find adventure, understanding and learn a lot about themselves along the way.

This really is a charming story, and that is mostly due to More...

Like the first in the Faery Rebels series, Wayfarer was a fantastic adventure. Fourteen years after the end of Spell Hunter, we begin with a 14-year-old Linden, and with the immediate declaration that Queen Amaryllis is dying. Linden is given half of the Queen's magic, and told that she is her people's last hope. Sent on a quest to find a way to restore her people's magic, Linden befriends a human named Timothy and travels far from home in search of help. We meet many more faeries, not all of wh More...

Linden, a fifteen-year-old faery, has always lived in the Oak with her fellow faeries. But when the faeries of Oakenwyld are threatened with extinction, Linden is trusted with the last of their magic to go out into the human world to try and find faeries to help the Oak survive. Timothy has just been suspended from school and is staying at the house next to the Oak. Two worlds collide when the two teenagers meet and begin a race throughout England to find a cure for Linden’s people.

How did I forget to add this to my bookshelves when I read it??

I loved this, as much as Knife, and more in ways, if less in other ways. Not less because it's in any way 'worse', but less because it suffers from the difficulty of shifting central character and perspective to that of someone who has a bit of work to do to earn our liking, as he's in some degree of conflict with Paul and Knife/Peri. Those of us who have loved them from knowing them earlier know with a degree of certain More...

This time I'll rate it 5 FLAT!

Damn! This book was beyond my expectations! The excitement in reading the book is superbly strong! I could just imagine myself holding the third book now, Arrow :)).

I love the way how each character was presented in the story (yet again). Especially Knife, she was still so much as her character when she was in the first book but more mature. No wonder she was still the guardian of the oak for anyone else couldn't match her without using their ma More...

The fairies from the Oak have come a long way. I'm almost amazed at everything that's happened in this series so far.

Unlike the first book, this story took place mostly in the human world. I was excited when Knife (Peri) and Paul were first mentioned in this book. From the summary it sounded like they weren't going to be in this book at all. However, even though they didn't take starring roles they were there throughout the book.

I just want to say, I really love Peri. She's More...

I'm about to admit something astounding, okay maybe not that astounding, but some of you might think so. The truth is I have never read a faery book before (at least not that I remember). I've read vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, angels, demons, but not faeries. So, Wayfarer is my first exposure to this paranormal entity.

I found the faery world depicted in this book to be fascinating. I learned after starting this one that it is actually the second in the series, but not re More...

After reading Knife and thoroughly enjoying it, I was impatient to get started with this one, with its cover equally as beautiful as Knife but sadly lacking the black-edged pages. Overall, another aesthetically pleasing book and I was praying that the tale it held inside its covers would be just as pleasing.

In my opinion, first lines are vitally important. It sets the tone for the novel and can either pull you in straight away or make you wary from the off. A good first line ca More...

I'm having a hard time putting into writing why I liked this one better than the first. I didn't get a real feel for the characters in the first one. There is some of the same ones in this one, but the main characters are different. I felt like I knew them better. It was faster paced, so I felt the story flowed better. It also changed locations, which maybe added that little bit of extra spark to the story. I liked all of the events that took place in London. It just exciting and I wasn' More...

Wayfarer takes place fifteen years after the events of Faery Rebels. Linden has grown up and being the youngest faery in the Oak is appointed as the Queen’s ambassador. Linden is not as spunky or as tough as Knife. She’s a young faery and it’s her first time being away from the Oak. She always listens to her conscience and doesn’t conform to what Timothy or others want her to do. Timothy also has troubles of his own of which he has been avoiding. The two form an unlikely friendship which through More...

A fine follow-up to Spell Hunter, this second installment of the Faery Rebel series continues the story of the Oak's faeries, who are dying out from a loss of their magic. The 15-year-old faery Linden is chosen to embark on a survival quest, in which she goes out into the world and meets Timothy, a 15-year-old human boy who grew up with his missionary parents in Uganda and is having trouble adjusting to England, where he has been sent to a boarding school from which he has been suspended. In this sequel to Spell Hunter (which I liked quite a lot, despite not usually liking fairy books), Linden is now the youngest fairy in the Oakenwyld colony. Knife is nearby, leading a new life, and it's Linden's turn to save the colony. Easier said than done, but she finds other fairies--and discovers that seclusion had its advantages.

Despite the familiar world and characters, Wayfarer just didn't appeal to me in the same way as Spell Hunter. Still worth reading (especially with th More...

"Wayfarer" is a sequel or possible companion book to "Knife" and is definitely a niche book for fantasy lovers and most likely female ones! To me, it is unlikely that it would appeal to a male audience. "Wayfarer" is an ultimate quest book as fifteen year old fairy, Linden, and her human companion, Timothy, seek to save the Oakenfolk colony of fairies who have, through time and nefarious deeds, lost their magic powers. Linden and Timothy endure some highly incredibl More...

I'm starting to think R.J. Anderson can do no wrong. Which she probably can't.

Wayfarer is no longer Knife's story, but Linden's. Linden in a way is the opposite of Knife. When Knife is impulsive and wild, Linden is sweet and does what she is told. Wayfarer was definitely not what I expected, it was different from Spell Hunter while still remaining fresh. There are some of the old characters who have changed quiet a bit and others remain the same despicable selves.

I loved Anderson's FAERY REBELS: SPELL HUNTER aka KNIFE (UK title ftw), but WAYFARER is even more fantastic. The story telling is much more urgent, and the plot really sucks you in and drives you to the point that you can't find a good "stopping place" to put the book down...and thus read the whole thing in a day :)
I loved Linden and Timothy's friendship (though I was disapointed at the way the book ended in regards to their relationship) and the continued world building that ack More...

Well this book was a bit of a disappointment compared to the first one. Although the storyline is good, one never feels very emotionally connected to the two main characters. And one of my favorite parts of the last book was that it took place at Oakhaven and Oakenwyld, which was a great setting, and this book took place all over Britain. While it made for a very adventuresome story, the sense of "place" that was so strong in the first book, was decidedly lacking in this one. Overa More...

Rebel is the sequel to Knife which jumps fourteen years ahead and sees Linden (the baby Knife was looking after) a teenager. Queen Amrayliss is dying and it's brought upon Linden to follow in her foster mother's footsteps and save the faeries of the Oakenfolk, by going out and trying to find other faeries that could help them regain their magic. Timothy is staying with his cousin Paul and his wife Peri (Knife) when he runs away after thinking he's not welcome he can't believe his eyes when a fai More...

WAYFARER is the most enchanting novel I’ve had a chance to read in a while, and it’s filled with charm– lovable characters, traditional fairy lore, wonderful writing and an engaging plot line. And it’s a journey of a plot, that gets better as the book goes on, instead of fizzling out before the action starts.

The story gives off a cozy, unambitious feel at first, but the journey eventually escalates into a fantastic plot. Timothy, Linden’s unlikely ally, also demonstrates great depth of More...

Why I read this: I love fairies and I really enjoyed the first book in this series.

Plot: Linden hopes to find other faeries to help Oakenfolk so they don't fade out of existance. A human named Timothy is staying with her former faery mother and when he gets fed up he takes off. Linden decides to tag along and see if he can help her find more fairies where he is going. But when they do find a few, Linden finds out that not all faeries are good.

Definitely a great plot More...

When I read and reviewed Spell Hunter a couple of weeks ago, I said that I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't know how much I would enjoy reading about teny tiny faeries. I ended up enjoying it immensely. The lore of the faeries and and Knife as the main character really brought the story to life for me. But unfortunately I didn't enjoy Wayfarer nearly as much.

Wayfarer is about Linden, who we meet in Spell Hunter as a child. Now it's her turn to step up and do her duty to save the O More...

This books isn't even suppose to come out until January 7th. I've been waiting for it.
