You ever find yourself reading a book and all you can think about is how you’re pretty sure you should give a fuck? You keep reading because maybe on the next page you’ll find that fuck you should give. Perhaps it'll be on the next page…nope…the page after that…nope…the page after that…nope. Fifty more pages and still no fucks have been found.

Le sigh.

It’s frustrating because you’re pretty sure that the book isn’t a bad book and so you stubbornly read on even when it isn’t working for you becau

Please guys don't be fooled by the ugly cover because this is just one FREAKING AMAZING read. I highly recommend it.
It's been a while, but I just knew a read like this one would come along eventually. It's so hard to find good paranormal romance book now a days that once you do you must share it with everybody else, lol. New series as good as this one are hard to find. I just can't thank 'Mistik' enough for the recommendation.

THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN MISSING! The melancholy, the excess of feeling

Raphael a Vampire Lord and territory leader of the West Coast is edgy, dark and oh so swoony, he had my underpants melting. He sets the rules and all must obey, if not, face his wrath!

Cynthia is a strong heroine and speaks her mind, which makes for interesting and often amusing dialogue.

The story is set in the modern times, but with a glimpse of the old, along with the complex rules and hierachy of the Old Ones. It's fast paced and the connection between Cynthia and Raphael, just sizzl

5 lusting for Raphael stars!!!!!!

It’s an intense and exciting world D.B. Reynolds has created in Malibu, California “-home to rock-and-roll gods and movie stars, the beautiful, the rich . . . and vampires.” I was sucked (no pun intended) in from the start, and fell madly in lust with the Vampire Lord, Raphael!

I liked this book, though I don't know if it is exactly my taste. Raphael is a bad ass vampire, and not just for show. He is a murder-without-remorse, cut-a-bitch kind of vampire. I tend to like my vampires kind of... fluffier or mushier or something. This is not that kind of vampire book.

I really enjoyed the writing in this book. It was sort of matter of fact, very tight, and had lots of action thrown in. It actually bordered on gory,
OMG this book was a lesson of "how to destroy a potential success book with a lame end"!!! I HATE IT!

Calming down... calming down... ok, now I can explain better....

I like this book... it's hot! The sex scenes were great! True! When Cyn and Raphael get together you can be certain that will read great and well describe sex.
I love the story! It's a little to much dramatic the initial narration (some parts she describe Raphael so potent and scary that I roll my eyes... was like a mob not a vampir
I really enjoyed this vampire romance. The heroine, Cyn, is a strong smart woman who gets involved with the Raphael, Vampire Lord of the western US whenever she helps find a missing vampire as part of her job as a private investigator. Raphael is a very interesting character, as a vampire lord he is strong, arrogant and not afraid of violence to achieve his ends. He is also powerful and sexy, he and Cyn have an instant spark between them that leads to some hot love scenes.

The writing was really
Excellent start to this vampire series!

Lord Raphael rules with an iron fang and he his harsh, but oh so HOT! He has hired Cyn to investigate the recent kidnapping of one of the female vampires under his protection. Cyn is one kick-ass, awesome private investigator, and when the two of them meet sparks fly. This is not your typical paranormal vampire romance series. There is a lot of story that delves into this fascinating and different world. At times it is very cruel, but necessary for the surv

For some reason, I was thinking of this book as some obscure, new author. And after reading her little ditty after the book, I realize that she was very new, as this was her first book. But it sure didn't seem like it. I was really surprised at the world that she has here. She didn't spend a lot of time explaining all of the little details about how vampires came to be and their role in society and how humans deal with them. She simply wrote her book as if they exist, and that's just how it is. ...more

I enjoyed the writing, it reminded me of the Guild Hunter series, a powerful vampire master needing the help of our human, kick-ass heroine.
The book had heat, violence and the heroine was resourceful and strong. The next book is a continuiation, since the hero and heroine don't end up together in this one.

This read as much like romantic suspense as PNR. The vamps in D.B Reynolds are truly vampires in the truest sense of the word. They are unforgiving, brutal and attuned to their predatory natures as one would expect. No fluff and shimmers here.

I really liked this world. Having Malibu as the backdrop worked well in combining the validity with the rumour of vampires existing. People weren't sure whether to believe the fantasy or not, but a few knew the truth.

I really liked Cynthia. She was a stron

“He would play her game for now, even let her think she had won.”

Cynthia Leighton is an investigator for the west coast vampire community. She is smart, resourceful and good at what she does. When a very old and powerful vampire lord offers her a job- to find his abducted (let’s say)...friend (Alexandra)...Cynthia has no idea what she is getting herself into.

Vampire Lord Raphael is one of the most powerful vampires in the world- absolutely deadly. But even his strength can’t protect
3.5 stars and a promising start to a series that is a new one for me.

I liked it, but I found that, rather unusually for a PNR book, there is little to no world building. Vampires exist, humans ‘sort of’ know about them living in their world, but it’s not really talked about. There’s no real background given on the way things are and why, you just jump in and go with the flow. This is probably a positive to readers who find that sort of thing boring, but I like to know all about the world that ch

Raphael is an old master Vampire (as in five centuries and counting old), acknowledged to be the most powerful one in America. When one of his vampires is kidnapped he will enlist Cyn's help in order to find her. Cyn is a PI, born and bred in the high society of Malibu, with a trust fund big enough to not need a work she works for the excitment so when Raphael offers her the job she accepts although she knows she will probably regret it.

This book took a while (about half a novel) to get going; it started very slow paced, with very detailed descriptions of the settings in Malibu, Ca (could be worse I suppose!), particularly the interiors and layouts of buildings. I read this for a challenge and at the 50% mark I felt like not much had happened with the plot and was wondering if this would be a DNF...Finally, the plot started going somewhere, and the pace picked up. Near the end there was quite a bit of action and a littl
A new PNR series I can really get into!

I am first and foremost an Urban Fantasy fan, so while I read PNR series on occasion they don’t really grip me. Heck, I’m only through book 2 of the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series myself after starting that series months ago, though I do plan to read them all eventually. That said, D.B. Reynolds has done a great job at keeping me engaged all throughout. I have read these books back to back, so I will write a review per day for each one. Not since the Feve

This story reminded me of Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter Series in that the strongest ruled different parts of the world and were in charge of what happened. That wasn't a bad thing, a Nalini is one of my favourite authors.
Raphael was a great character. I like my vampires a little bad and mean, and he was. Cyn was a kicka** female lead. I liked her as well.
The pace moved along nicely, for both the overall story and the romance. I definitely want to read more of this series. So why only 3 stars? The

Raphael … Now this is exactly how you characterize a Vampire Lord

I can’t believe I’ve missed this book until now. If it weren’t for one of my friends’ status updates I would have missed out on one of the best urban fantasy series there is. Seriously, this was fucking amazing and exactly how I want my paranormal romance to be written: Dark, intense, with a vampire lord who doesn’t melt on the spot because he is a whiney human at heart.

His nostrils flared and anger surged unchecked for the first

Not recommended for romance, but very good for a smart female human PI helping vampires solve a kidnapping.

Cyn is a former Los Angeles cop, now working as a private investigator. She's tough, cool, smart, and rich (inherited). When she was a cop, she saved a vampire's life, so now they hire her when they need human help. Alexandra is a vampire who lives with Raphael, lord of the vampires in the western U.S. She is kidnapped by a group of vampires and humans. Raphael hires Cyn to hel

EXCELLENT!!!!! This one is a must read. OMG that super sexy Vampire Raphael!!! He's sooo smooth and totally alpha male. Cyn (Cynthia) is a fantastic kick butt strong heroine and stands her ground with arrogant Raphael. The love scenes are absolutely hot. This is a definite page turner. At the beginning I was a bit put off by the high drama as Raphael and his crew of vampires is so old world formal but after a few pages and Cyn's modern day woman and sassy dialogue the story was off and running. ...more

Ahh a freaking cliffhanger! Pretty suspenseful and this Heroine doesn't take no crap! Pairing her with the Lord of the Vampires was smart considering how alpha Raphael is. Very very frustrating at how it ended. But it kept me flipping through the pages that's for sure!

Raphael is a book I was able to obtain through ImaJinn books via Netgalley. After reading the last book in the series "Aden", I was fascinated by this authors style. I was curious why I had never heard of her before now. Well I am completely hooked. Raphael was a stunning paranormal romance that swept this reader off of her feet. A truly fantastically well written story that completely put a spell over me until I had finished. Raphael begins when someone close to Raphael ends up being kidnapped, ...more

3.5: good first effort from a new urban fantasy/PNR author

I had never heard of this author and gave this urban fantasy a try after reading about it on an online forum. I was pleasantly surprised. It was a good mix of mystery, suspense, action and romance. The book kept me on the edge of my seat and it was hard to put down. While there were some simliarities to other series, the author still managed to keep me reading. I liked the hero--powerful, mysterious, good looking, commanding, etc.--basica

Adult PNR. The very best of PNR.

You know what, I was not writing reviews when I read this book which was back in early 2012 but even then, I decided to jot down few sentences which tells me now, I felt enough to add words to the rating.

To date, I remember when Raphael and Cyn met, where they met, why they met and I remember, clear as day, the first time he took her against the wall. NOW, I read a LOT of sexy up against the wall but none can I recall so clearly because it came

Ms. Reynolds has struck gold with her Vampires in America Series. RAPHAEL is a fast-moving, page-turning delight. It is an exhilarating tale of love, lust, and lies.

Cynthia Leighton (Cyn) is a resilient private investigator, and she’s growing bored with her usual clients. She has done some menial work for the local vamp community, and she jumps at the chance to work for the West Coast Vampire Lord, Raphael, when he offers her a job. I like Cyn – so very mu

“Raphael came through the door like a child's nightmare, his eyes glowing an almost solid silver with wrath, his gleaming fangs fully extended, blood painting his mouth a brilliant red, dripping from his chin to shine wetly against the tattered remains of his black shirt. His huge chest was heaving with the fury of his breath, and his hands curled into claws as his gaze found her and he growled a warning. 'Release her, human.'
'Who are you? the man rasped, fear taking away his breath, coarsening his voice.
'Release her.'
The man tightened his grip, 'Come closer and she dies.'
Rachael's mouth widened in a terrifying smile, 'You think to bargain with me?”
“Would it be so terrible, sweet Cyn?” he whispered. “To spend eternity at my side?” But she was too far gone in sleep, and Raphael didn't know if he wanted to hear her answer anyway.” 7 likes
