My Car by Byron Barton is a simple story about a man, Sam, and his car, including care and upkeep. This includes getting gas, changing the oil, using the wipers and headlights at night, and obeying traffic laws. And he drives a bus as his job!
The text is simple, with a few exceptions, like pedestrians, steering, and gasoline. It shows some basic parts of the car: body, wheels, frame, engine and steering wheel. A number of signs are shown. The font is large and could be used by some beginning or...more

A bit long for a toddler storytime, but I think I could paper clip some pages and make it work. I don't think the toddlers would quite get that the guy is a bus driver. But the bright colors and small amounts of text still make this a possibility. The book would also be good for a beginning reader, as long as parent is there to help with some of the words that aren't typical (e.g. gasoline).

I put this on William's wishlist and his uncle and aunt got it for him for Christmas along with some toy cars. I hadn't read this one in advance, but William loved Trucks and Natalie loved this author's version of the three bears, so I figured it was a safe bet. I did like it as much as those two other titles, but it is still good. It introduces a lot of what you do with a car, including the most basic parts. What I really liked was the ending when we find out the man is a bus driver. The art on...more
In My Car, Sam introduces various aspects of his car including: how he takes care of it, from keeping it clean to putting gas in it; to how he drives it, drive carefully and read the signs; to wear he drives it, drive my car to many places, drive my car to work. The digital illustrations are very simply drawn and brightly colored, and the plain, simple text is prominent and recognizable. Older babies and toddlers will enjoy learning all about Sam’s car in this fun and educational book.
My daughter is obsessed with cars. Not only was it one of her first words, but she loves reading about them, and this is one of her favorite car books. She also will say "Sam" every time the driver of the car is introduced.
The illustrations are simple but effective. I liked the mixture of country and city, care for car, car parts, responsibility with cars--all told in a way that helps the toddler enjoy exploring automobile possibilities.

Perfect for the young child who loves cars and transportation books. The language is simple and clear, making it readable, and even potentially good for a beginning reader. The illustrations include bright, bold colors. A true transportation classic.
