Contos imbuídos de lamechice romântica, de ironia jocosa e de repreensão diletante da falsa moral. É um livro de contos meramente inconspícuo.

José Duarte Ramalho Ortigão nasceu no Porto, na Casa de Germalde, freguesia de Santo Ildefonso. Era o mais velho de nove irmãos, filhos do primeiro-tenente de artilharia Joaquim da Costa Ramalho Ortigão e de D. Antónia Alves Duarte Silva Ramalho Ortigão.
