I've been an X-Men fan since the early 80's. Although I stopped buying the books on a regular basis since the late 90's, I'm still very familiar with most of the characters. I've never really had a problem with how these characters get modified and changed when translated to other mediums (ie; animated cartoons, movies, etc) so I wasn't bothered by any of the changes here (for example, Jean Grey is a teacher at the school, whereas Scott/ Cyclops is a teen student). A couple of years ago I read Ender's Game, and it almost ruined the X-Men for me. I saw a lot of parallels between the way the adults in EG were training the kids and Xavier's Danger Room, and it left a bad taste in my mouth. As much as I still loved the idea of a school filled with mutants learning to use their powers, molding them into superheroes didn't hold any interest for me.

Which is why I'm glad I read this. There isn't anything new in terms of the base story ("Kitty Pry More...

This is a retelling of the X-Men starting with Kitty Pryde. She comes to attend Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters as the only girl in an all male class. She is immediately adopted by the Hellfire Club as their mascot. However the Hellfire club is mostly made up of Magneto fanboys who want nothing more than to enslave humans and rule the world. Kitty, being the nice girl she is, hangs out with them but feels like she doesn't quite fit in. And although she is dating Pyro the hottest (ha h More...

Ok, this book really grabbed my interest from the cover. I like the X-men movies and I'm a huge shoujo manga fangirl. The drawings in this book are excellent, and what really caught my eye were the people on the front. I mean, two cute guys and one girl? This is gonna be good. ^^

The story was pretty good, a bit slow to start, and a little forced. I mean, how come Kitty is the only girl in the whole academy?? At first I was doubtful of the "Hellfire" club, as the membe More...

I never thought I'd read/pick this up. Not because I'm a X-men purist or enthusiast (the opposite really, I'm rather indifferent to 95% of the Marvel universe's inhabitants), but because it just never made me 'Need have now'. It's pretty and I really like the artwork and I've been a fan of Dave Roman's since Jax Epoch (Flannel Sorceress, you know you want to read it now), but I have already so much I collect that I thought I'd let it go until I had extra money.

Oh well I make mistakes More...

I'm a huge long-time fan of both X-Men and shojo manga, so I was extremely excited when I heard this book was coming out!

I knew from the recent Wolverine manga that it would be a reimagining, so I wanted to go into it and not dwell too much on thoughts like, "He wouldn't act like this!" or "This is so wrong!" But I didn't even have those thoughts when I read this one! It was remarkable how most of the characters seemed true to their mainstream selves to a point; t More...

I love X-men. It's one of those things I've loved since I was eleven or something like that, because it's just such an amazing universe.
Unfortunately, Kitty isn't one of my favorites... and none of my favorites really had a roll to play. I would have loved to see Rogue, (more of) Gambit, Wolverine, (more of) Kurt and Jubilee. I felt like maybe the series was setting up to introduce them in later novels down the road, but at the moment it felt a little weird to me.
I guess, if I got a More...

Summary: The X-Men get a shojo revamp as Kitty Pryde enters Xavier's Academy as the only female student. She falls in with Magneto's pets, the Hellfire Club, and dates bad boy Pyro while also finding herself attracted to the aloof Bobby (Iceman).

Verdict: If you pretend it isn't about the X-Men, it's not bad for shojo.

Nay!: Don't bother with this title! While it's a decent offering in some ways and was listed by YALSA as one of 2010's Great Graphic Novels for Teens, the se More...

It was okay. There were some plot holes that were never answered [like, how come the Hellfire Club got so much leniency?] and there were many times that the transitions were not that great; there wasn't much of a flow in between parts of the plot.

The art was good. I was expecting the whole book's art to be as great as the cover art, because the cover is just AMAZING, but it wasn't. However, I got used to it; the characters all had their own appeals in the end.

I think that Del More...

Wow, this was...different. Very different.

The artwork, no matter what you think about the book itself, it absolutely gorgeous. It's shoujo to the max and so well-done, with fine lines and a tone of sparkles.

Anyway, to the story: Kitty Pryde is about to start attending Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters, but she's also the only girl there. Bet you can't see where this is going, huh?

It's sort of X-Men-meets-Host-Club. She's 'adopted' by a group of the most popular More...

Cute! First thought was "Really? Is that even necessary?!", but it sucked me right in. It's an odd blending of shojo and comics, a retelling (retcon?) of Kitty Pryde coming to the Xavier mansion and her first school year there. It's fun to see old characters I know from somewhat different storylines, as they act all high-schooly. There's the aloof loner, the bad boy(s), the father-figure headmaster, etc. Guess who takes each role!

Since it's american-made, I expect to see a More...

I didn't think I would like this book at first--they took the X-men classic characters, shojo-ed them, switched their allegiances and personalities, and added in a story meant specifically for girl readers. Surprisingly (or perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised, really), I loved it. Unfortunately, this is part of a 2-book series and the 2nd book has been cancelled... forever. So I'll just have to wonder what happened and make up my own ending, I suppose.

Because I am trying to find more graphic novels to recommend to my students, I picked this one up. And, I love X-Men. Not in an obsessed way, in a "what mutant power would I have?" kind of way.

It was a little hard to keep track of all the characters (especially because so many of them looked the same) but I thought the story was ok.

It looks a lot like manga, and I don't know if that would be a deterrent to some people or not.

I liked the story ok, but not the art as much. I'm still new to manga and I know a lot of the male characters look similar, but I had a really hard time telling the difference between Kitty Pryde and her male X-Men friends. I'll continue to buy this series for the library as I imagine it will be quite popular, but I don't think I'll be reading anymore.

As a long-time fan of the X-Men, I knew I had to accept this for what it is: a cute shojo manga that retains the basic elements of the comic while taking many liberties with characterization. I thought I would be annoyed, but instead I was entertained by this reimagining. Keep an eye out for Beast and Colossus. Hilarious. I will definitely pick up the second volume.

it was horrible! the good guys were bad, the bad guys good. nothing like the stuff i grew up with. and then i usually don't read mangas, so i had a really hard time telling who was a girl asn wha was a boy. and what was up with Storms look?!? these people just took too much freeedom with the story. if you're a real X-men fan, don't bother with this!!!

I'm a fan of the X-Men movies, so when my youngest daughter picked this up at the library, I knew I had to read it too. I enjoyed it. Fun storyline - even though I didn't like Kitty as the only girl. Great artwork. Looking forward to the next book (so is my daughter!).

I liked how Jamie Madrox kind of looked like me. It's funny, because about seven years ago I pitched this same basic book, just featuring new characters rather than remolding the classics. A shojo manga set in the Xavier Academy--glad someone finally got to do it. It was fun.

A fantastic re-imagining of the X-Men with all the right themes, stylistic renderings and motifs from manga coupled with the things that make X-Men stories interesting - being an outcast, the social dynamics of a school setting and cool powers.

I actually really liked this manga, very dissapointed the 2nd one won't come out. It seems a total waste to me if the series is only 2-part and they WON'T print the last one. Come on guys! I would have liked to read more :(

Nothing short of adorable. I'm very sad the sequel got canceled. I suppose it's not surprising that the cross-section of people who like both X-Men and shojo manga is pretty small. I love it though.

I was prepared to hate this, but it wasn't bad. It was cute, as long as you're open-minded and don't be a purist about it. It's just too bad it got discontinued.

A fresh take on the X-Men, mixing Xavier's School with Shojo manga (a la Ouran). Like a love letter to everyone who loves both.

We follow Kitty Pryde as the only current female student at Xavier's in her first months at the school. It's so fun to pick out each character in their new manga form (Beast is Totoro-like, Cyclops is still sanctimonious, except in teenage version, which means straight edge, ah, beautiful).
I can't wait for volume 2, I hear there will be more female More...
