Five young teens living in Florida get the opportunity of a lifetime--they're each going to be turned into a DHI, or a Disney Host Interactive, to guide visitors throughout the park. The five teens--Finn, Charlene, Willa, Philby, and Maybeck--are a varied assortment of ethnicities, and all attend different schools. As Maybeck states, they're "the Orlando assortment pack." When Philby points out that DHI also stands for Daylight Hologram Im...more

Okay, when I learned about what it was about, I thought that it would be REALLY, REALLY good. I just thought the idea was clever (it's about Disney characters gone bad at night in the park). But then I read it, and I realized I just didn't like the characters, or the way it was written...sorry. But I do think it's a worthwhile read.

Not bad. In fact, pretty good in parts- it was exciting and fast-paced. It was also perfectly plausible to me- frankly, I've always suspected that the animatronic dolls in "It's a Small World" were up to something nefarious.

Where do I begin to describe my disappointment?

Living in Florida, I love Disney with a fierce passion. My best memories have been made there. I've seen this book every time I've gone in a store, and I figured it must be good.

How wrong I was.

Everything was so... bad, but let's break it down into elements.

Negative Elements:
The characters -
They were underdeveloped to say the least. You couldn't connect to anyone because the author simpl...more

I read this book a while back. My sister had read it before me and said she really liked it. So I thought I would give it a whirl. It was a little confusing at first because I didn't know what was going on, but It got a lot better!
I like how they based it at Disney World. It made me remember when I went to Disney World the year before. All the rides, and the cool things that are there in real life and the book. The author really did a great job with it.

I hope to be able to add ...more

First in the Kingdom Keepers fantasy adventure series set in Disney World for children. This first book is also known as Kingdom Keepers.

Pet Peeve: The series is the Kingdom Keepers and yet Disney is listing every book as having the title "Kingdom Keepers". Gimme a break. It makes it very confusing for the casual browser to figure out where a book falls in this series.

Have you been to Disney World? Do you love the Magic Kingdom? As a huge Disney fan, this book was so fun to read! You meet Finn and 4 other Orlando teenagers who have been chosen to become DHI's, which are holographic images that are trained to be Magic Kingdom park guides. However, Finn and his friends start waking up in the middle of the night as their DHI's, in the Magic Kingdom park. They find out from Wayne, an old Imagineer (what Disney calls their engineers and inventors), that the p...more

Talk about the classic case of the Battle of Good and Evil! And who knew there was evil in the Magic Kingdom? Oh, wait...Walt Disney did and he left a plan to battle the evil forces when they would arise.
Walt has shared an ancient fable with his original team of Imagineers. They are sure it holds the key to quelling the evil powers that they know are rising after dark in DisneyWorld but they don't know how to unravel the clues. In fact they aren't sure where to start looking for clues. But ...more

Okay, this has to be one of my favorite books ever! I'm not to big into creepy things. Like dolls coming to life. And pirate robots. And witches. And all that good stuff. But this book was to good to put down! *Spoiler: This book is about five young teens (Finn, Maybeck, Philby, Willa, and Charlene) trapped as guides for the Walt Disney World. They are DHI's, which stands for both 'Disney Host Interactive' and 'Daylight Hologram Imaging'. When they fall asleep at night, they cross over to Walt D...more

This book may not be for you it may be for you, I find it helpfull whe reading this book if you have had a pass excperience, or have been to Diney.(you should at least know disney characters.) Even though I gave it 2 stars, this by no means indicates that it was a bad book. The story is fun, and the author is a very good writer. It's a nice book on a rainy day. However, if you compare it in quality to the Percy Jackson series, Nick McIver Time Adventures or the Keys to the Kingdom series, it's not going to stack up as well (no pun intended). So, the moral here is, "Don't compare them." Honestly, you shouldn't, except that the star judgment needs to be fair.

OK. So,...more

Disney after Dark is about four young teens that audition to be hologramed tour guides. But what they didn't know was that caused them to be in the Magic Kingdom during or after closing hours when they went to bed.Finn and his friends were told that this happened because they were the chosen ones. What that meant was that they were to defeat the overtakers. The overtakers were the evil disney characters.Such as the pirates in the Pirates of The Carabbean attraction or maybe Magnificent from Sl...more

I probably liked this book more than I would have if I was not the Disney fan that I am.

Having worked at Disneyworld and enjoyed numerous visits both to Florida and California Disney Theme Parks, I loved getting reacquainted with the parks and the employee only areas described in the book. I loved all the references made to the Disney characters and think Pearson did a fantastic job of capturing what it feels like to be in the park and part of the park.

Five young teens find themselves pitted against Disney villains and witches who threaten both the future Disney World and the stability of the world outside its walls. Will they save the day?

As someone who grew up on Disney, I was super excited to read this book. It combines the awesomeness that is Disney World, with night time adventures, and some exploration into new technology, which is pretty cool even though it is the cause of the conflict in the novel.

It's been some tim...more

Part of me wants to really like this guy for writing a cool story and the other part of me wants to punch him in the kidneys for writing a book that I want to write. I'm dying to walk into Disneyland and say "Hi! I'm writing a book and need access to all the secret tunnels" and they say "Right this way, madam" - just like Jeeves and I'm in.

Now I'm finished and man, this book was bad. Bad! It's such a shame -the idea of the characters in Disneyland coming aliv...more

The premise of the book sounded exciting enough. I mean, what doesn't sound fun about a book that takes place in the Magic Kingdom?

However, this book had many confusing scenes (and starts off with one of the most confusing) and a ton of things that are never explained. Plus, the author seemed to like to throw in references to attractions or locations in the park (perhaps just to geek people out).

Next, some very very weird stuff happens. It's easy enough to accept evil ...more

This book would be a fun one to read to your kids, especially after they have been to Disneyworld. Almost the whole book takes place in Disneyworld in many familiar places like "It's a Small World", "Space Mountain", "Thunder Mountain", etc... There are some fun places the characters go that actually exist, but that as a member of the public can not have access.

I only gave this book 3 stars due to the inconsistencies in the plot and some events do not...more

3.5 stars--I'm rounding down. Finn Whitman and four other teenagers have gotten jobs as virtual Disney hosts: they've been turned into holographic images that guide people through Disneyworld's Magic Kingdom. Only there's more to the job than they were originally told. When they go to sleep at night as real kids in their real lives, they wake up as their holographic images in the Magic Kingdom. A mysterious Imagineer meets them (as holograms) and tells them they have to fight against the Ove...more

Even though I am not exactly the target demographic for this series, I've wanted to read it for a while since I'm such a big Disney fan. It only took me a couple hours to read the first book, and while it was entertaining, I was kind of disappointed in the execution of what had the potential to be a really cool concept. I know it's a kids' book, but kids deserve well-thought-out plots at least as much as adults. The book would make absolutely no sense to anyone who hasn't been to Disney World in...more

When I first heard about this book, I was totally stoked and knew I must eventually read it. I've been a Disney fan for as long as I can remember and I absolutely LOVE the Disney parks. The idea of an adventure book set in Walt Disney World with some crazy technological/sci-fi style elements…I was hooked.

The high level concept of the story is this. Disney has partnered with a "Holographic Imaging" company to create perfect holographic representations of Disney Hosts to sho...more

Like others that I saw when I read the flap of this book I thought this was the coolest idea for a book. But like all good books it's how the idea is taken and written and then transformed. I don't know if its the author just isn't a good YA author that this is just not his style. Either way the writing is the worst, and I've read some pretty bad stuff.

I hated that we had to mention the virtual magic kingdom, the characters were so one dimensional that I could see through them. And ...more

I've never been to Disney World, can you imagine that? As if a vital part of my childhood is somehow missing, I still am eager to visit the magical land that has enchanted fans for years. Though I can not pick off of personal experience from the park, I can try to picture it in my mind through others, movies and books, correct? I picked up Ridley Pearson's Kingdom Keepers book on Kindle to help me do just that. While these books are geared m...more

This book has an awesome concept, but it was not as good as I had hoped. The female characters are all the same (with the exception of Jez and Amanda), while the male characters are slightly more developed than the girls. I had a hard time liking the characters. The writing style is very choppy (especially when there is more action) and, considering that this book is set in the Magic Kingdom, I expected the story to be more magical than it turned out. After reading it, it feels as though...more

Who doesn't like Disney World? These kids end up getting jobs as Disney Host Interactives (DHI). The author, Ridley Pearson, uses the rides at Magic Kingdom in a way that no one would have ever thought of. We have all had a dream where we wish we are at an amusement park at night. These kids are forced to! I reccomend this book to any reader, young and old.
Finn is the leader of the kids and needs to save the park from a fleet of evil rides. The rides are coming alive after closing, trying ...more
