I began reading this book with strong reservations regarding the topic. As an artist I have always been adamant that there should be enforceable laws regarding intangible property as there is with physical property. Although Patry’s argument that property, and laws pertaining to property, are only as absolute as the perception of society deems them to be is sound and convincing. Pretty much the book of my heart right now. If you're someone who's into political rhetoric or copyright, this is a shockingly easy read. You really needn't have any knowledge of law.

Excellent exposition of how the entrenched copyright owners work to kill innovation, both in technology and business models. Very accessible, for a book on copyright law!

instead of a retread of the different arguments about copyright that have been covered elsewhere, Patry instead focuses on how the different sides frame the argument (using pirates and references to the Boston Strangler in relation to people who use material under certain fair use considerations) and create a cutlure where rational discussion cannot happen.
