When Sarah Ingram and her sister Christine left Thunder Bay on a chilly November afternoon, they thought that they were going on a weekend getaway, leaving their problems behind. What they didn't realize was that they would end up in a world that was, in many ways, very different from their own, but at the same time eerily familiar. Separated almost at once, the two women ...more

I meant to read and review this ages ago. Finding it on my computer I felt guilty and promptly put on my reading glasses. I was in for a really enjoyable evening, a fun double-mystery, with the past slowly revealing itself while future danger awaits… which makes sense, I guess, since the past has led sisters, Christine and Sarah, to drive alone and get lost in the fog, somewhere far from their intended route and closer to home than they imagine.

The author has a nice way of hinting at t...more

I jumped all over Stacey Voss' offer on Twitter, to host a day of the book blog tour, for one reason and one reason only....her advertising for the book was something along the lines of "vampires and portals" oh my! Who could resist that?

My synopsis: Two women from Thunder Bay, Canada accidently happen upon a portal into another world. This alternate world is almost exactly like the Canada they left behind, except for a few changes...there are castles and vampires.

Voss created a fascinating different world of vampires where blood is the currency and gates of fog bring new blood from a different time. "Thunder and Blood" was both intriguing and quick to read. The characters were created so that one can easily become one with them and understand their motives and feelings. My favorite characters? The bad guy! I just couldn't resist! I felt sorry for him and almost hypnotized in emotion like Christine. I couldn't help but wonder if this world had b...more

Recommends it for: anyone who enjoys the paranormal and/or vampires
I was attracted to this book mainly for two reasons - - the vampire plot and the fabulous cover. To find that the story was original, addictive and fun was an added bonus.

First time author Stacey Voss has woven together a mesmerizing story with the gothic and moody atmosphere perfect for Halloween. While the beginning of the synopsis sounds like a generic horror film (couple leaves for a weekend getaway only to encounter an evil they didn’t know existed), Thunder and Blood is any...more

I don't read many vampire stories. And no, it's not because that other vampire series soured me on them. I've just never seen the appeal of vampires in general. The one exception would be Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off, Angel, because Joss Whedon is awesome. Those series aside, I tend to approach vampire stories with some reservation. The last vampire book—straight-up vampire book, not a book with vampires in it, like one of the Dresden Files books—I read was The Midnight Guardia...more

I love a good paranormal read, not to mention when its written by a local author. Presented is an original and creative Gothic vampire series involving portals to alternative realities shrouded in mystery (and fueled by an interesting form of economic system) with it all taking place in the town of Thunder Bay, ON. A really wonderful (if short) read that will fulfill your need for time travel, adventure, blood and vampires.

I thought this was a fantastic novel. It took me a day and a half to read.
A good quick read. The novel kept me going for more.
I really liked the part with Gerwin & Elke. I thought those people were very mysterious.

I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

An exciting first novel by Stacey Voss in her Thunder and Blood series has it all: mysterious fogs, gates to alternate worlds, and vampires. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Hillard, Sarah, Christine and Lord Radek, explaining one of those alternate worlds and its society that inhabits part of Maine. Young and old will enjoy this new series.

Two sisters from Thunder Bay Canada set out on a trip to the US. As they are driving they encounter a thick fog. The fog is a portal to an alternate world ruled by vampires.

This is an original and engaging story. I'm looking foward to the sequel.
