The Warlord Wants Forever is the short story that introduces the Immortal After Dark series...
From Kresley Cole's website:
Nikolai Wroth, once a ruthless human warlord in the 1700s and now a general in the rebel vampire army, needs to find his Bride, the one woman who can render him truly alive. As a turned human, he doesn’t enjoy a heartbeat or breaths and is consequently weaker than fully blooded vampires. He wants his Bride for the power she will bring him and can hardl More...

Do you know a woman who's bitchy, non-compliant and difficult?
According to Cole, the answer to this is that she's just too damn empowered and has too many rights!
Surely relinquishing her unappreciated freedoms and rights will make her abundantly happy... and compliant... and slutty...
I hear an objection from the Kresley Cole fans and in the interest of fair media representation, I'll relay it to the rest of you. "But Kat, the novels ends with Wroth More...

I read The Warlord Wants Forever out of the Playing Easy to Get anthology. I actually read this one second in the Immortals After Dark series because I read A Hunger Like No Other first. I remember reading A Hunger and being like, "Who are Myst and Nikolai?" When I realized that there was a prequel short story, I was on the hunt to get it. Finally I found it at a Half Price Books in San Antonio. I bought it and read it when I was in Denver for training. I actually read it about 2 and

The Warlord Wants Forever is the first in the Immortal After Dark series by Kresley Cole. The story features the eldest of the Wroth brothers, Nikolai, and the most beautiful Valkyrie of them all: Myst the Coveted.
Myst is playing bait in a vampire dungeon when Nikolai, as general of a vampire rebel group, frees her. Nikolai is immediately intrigued by Myst. She however tries to play Nikolai like she does every man. When they find out Myst is Nikolai’s Bride, she does the worst thing i More...

It’s been some time that I wanted to read the Immortals After Dark series by Kresley Cole and I thought that I should start with this novella. And I have to say that this book is a very promising start!
The story is about Wroth, a general in the vampire army and Myst, a Valkyrie. Vampires and Valkyries are mortal enemies so, as you can guess, nothing is easy with this couple. In the story we’ve been introduce to this world when all this of fantasy and mythology exist.

4 ½-5 stars – Paranormal/Vampire Romance
I read this Immortals After Dark story/novella in the Playing Easy to Get anthology. It's the story of vampire warrior Nikolai Wroth's quest to claim his Bride, the beautiful and seductive enemy Valkyrie, Myst.

Narrated by Simone Fomhar and Hagan Verret - narration 4 1/2*s
This is a POV narration, which I rarely care for, but this was definitely one of the better ones. For two first time narrators (at least from what I've been able to find) they both do an outstanding job of catching Kresley Cole's humor and character attitudes. Hagan Verret comes very close to pushing my "hero sounds like an old man" button but it was borderline and ended up working out, the accent probably helped a More...

In this first instalment of the AD series we are introduced to the world of the Lore, in particular Nikolai Wroth, an eighteenth century Warlord and Vampire General, and his Bride Myst the Coveted, a Valkyrie seductress. When Myst finds herself imprisoned in the Hordes stronghold the last thing she expects to find is a sexy Vampire General trying to claim her as his Bride. After seducing him Myst flees and leaves Nikolai aching for her touch, literally. When Nikolai's fevere More...

This is the first book in the IAD Series Challenge that starts today. Go over to That's What I'm Talking About to find out more!
What I Loved: I am not usually a fan of short stories and it might have helped this one that I read it out of order since I had already been introduced to many of the characters. The title should have been a clue - it makes as much sense as the opening of the story.
I was confused during the first third of this book. Modern slang and pop culture references are mixed in with what I thought was a midieval setting. Introduction to the mythology of the Valkyrie feels clumsy at best.
Later it is mentioned that 'modern day' is only 5 years after the opening of the book, placing the setting I thought midieval very close to today. The opening raid on the castle is st More...

I wasn't expecting to like it. Why?
Well, I read so many good things about Kresley Cole and I began
but hated it from page one and so didn't even finish the chapter (that I will write in a review from that book).
I couldn't understand why I didn't like so I gave another shot and this book I found it sweet (in a way) BUT there were a couple of things that I didn't quite understand.
Basicaly it's the story of a big strong guy... errr vampire, that is looking for h More...

The Warlord Wants Forever is an exciting beginning to Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series. This story first appeared in the anthology Playing Easy to Get. (The blurb above gives an excellent plot summary.) The story focuses on the very passionate yet volatile relationship between Myst, a Valkyrie warrior, and Wroth, a general in the vampire army. Though mortal enemies, Wroth discovers that Myst is his Bride, the one who will give him great power once they b More...

It's a short story and a prelude of a great paranormal series by Kresley Cole.
I've read all the ten books and eagerly awaits for LOTHAIRE the 11th book. I don't know if i can manage to give review of all books in the series because i read them a while back.
Anyhoo, i really like this short story as it got all the elements of a romance book right. It got a strong and alpha hero and equally strong (though sometimes bitchy) heroine. The chemistry leaps out of the book and the a More...

I’d never read any of Cole’s writing until reading this Novella in the “Playing Easy to Get” anthology. I had heard that she writes a steamy story, and I have no problem admitting that rumor is absolutely the truth.
Myst is a Valkyrie: a supernatural creature with massive strength and power. Valkyries are all daughters of female warriors who were found worthy of carrying immortal children by the Gods Freya and Woden. Myst uses her beauty and allure to get close to her enemies and More...

Holy hotness, Batman! Why did nobody sit me down and give me a stern lecture on why I needed to start this series ages ago? I mean, whoa.
Love, love, love the mythology laid out here. It's layered and complex enough that I can imagine a lot of different scenerios that Kresley Cole can give us without the storylines feeling stale or recycled. Let's face it, that's pretty darn awesome.

I don't know what to say except I can't believe this book gets away with might is right when it comes to male dominance over females? Seriously? The female protagonist was a two millenia old Valkyrie, I'd expect her to act like she's about 2 thousand, at least show that you have some wisdom from existing that long. Same goes for the male protagonist, except I have NO good feelings for him. None whatsoever.
The redeeming quality of the book is the hmm, the Valkyrie coven which oddly rem More...

YES. I read a book titled, "The Warlord Wants Forever." I actually went there. But it was a cute little romance novel full of fluffy, escapism. It's one of my first books on my JP recommended shelf as she and I have the same tastes on the whole girly-Calgon-take-me-away books and she is 'expanding my horizons' in regards to what I read. And thank gawd as these fluffy books are actually in some weird way saving my sanity. Reading them is a great way to get away from work stress. Y

What a weird book! Well, it wasn't weird, it just wasn't what I suspected. It was a good story. I liked Wroth and I like Myst. Especially Myst because she was a hardcore killer when she needed to be.
My favorite part was in the beginning of the book, when Wroth was out there fighting. Myst sees him, thinks he is awesome, and at one point waves at him while he was killing a minion while staring at her. Don't ask me why I liked it, I just did. But you know, I am a sucker for romance and More...

Warlord Wants Forever
In this novella we finally learn how the series would have opened if there had been a first book. It was interesting to read about all the Valkeries in this manner since we have learned so much about them individually now.
This may be one new readers may want to pass on though. It seems to be a book more for those who have already read all or most of the series, since you really don’t find out anything in this book that you don’t learn from the later boo More...

My best friend knows how much I love urban fantasy and kept pushing me to read the Immortals After Dark series by Kresley Cole. She finally got fed up when I told her I haven't read any of them yet, so she dropped off a bag with the entire series in it with a smirk saying you are going to love them!
I am embarrassed to say I read the Immortals After Dark 1-11 in one weekend. Overall the series was a bit strange. These tall hunky men with spectacular bodies (drool) finding their true mat More...

Excelent! I absolutely loved this story and am so hooked. I couldn't put this book down. The very first chapter won me over from the beginning.
The romance and erotica between Myst, the Valkyrie and Wroth, the warlord was excelent.
I'm not going to give the story away but here is a little insight about the characters.

I thought it was all right. As an opening gambit, this definitely shoots the series out of the park.
However, I made the fatal mistake of reading all eleven books back to back in the course of a weekend.
While the series was enjoyable, I may have enjoyed it on the whole if I had given myself a break. I found that the overall series of kick ass woman brought to heel by a man a bit too Christine Feehan for me.
If I had to compare the Dark Series vs IAD, I find IAD a lot More...

Ok so the Goodreads summary pretty much tells the whole damn story! LOL! I'm going to keep this short and sweet. I've heard so many great things about the Immortals After Dark series. It has been on my "to buy and read" radar since last year. But who has time to start a new series? Not I! So when Jen of That's What I'm Talking About came up with the IAD Reading Challenge and immediately jumped on board!

I liked it. I'm starting the series and I hope this was a nice warm up. If the rest continue this path, I should enjoy this series. The only thing that threw me a little was it felt like a story set in ancient times, hundreds of years ago, even though it's set now. So the references to things like xbox and pussycat dolls, felt a little jarring. Like the author was trying to remind me that this was the here and now.
