"Hock the platinum. Take down the vacation photos. Cancel the joint checking account."

There's no question . . . Divorce Sucks. And perhaps no one knows that better than author Mary Jo Eustace, whose ex-husband Dean McDermott married Tori Spelling a mere thirty days after their divorce was finalized. One part tell-all and one part guide to get readers on their fee

If my "professional writer" spouse, who supposedly held a literature degree with honors from a respectable university kept using "where" when he (or, in this case, she) meant "were" and failed to differentiate between "bare" and"bear," I'd dump his (in this case, her) ass pronto.
Seriously, this thing was inexcusably littered with typos and worse. When you see basic mistakes like these littered freely throughout the book, it's either rampant...more

I have to be honest. I selected this book thinking that it was going to be Mary Jo Eustace's version of what happened during her infamous split from Dean McDermott, when he left her for Tori Spelling. Trashy, I know. But I thought maybe a light, gossipy book would be a nice change.

Divorce Sucks, despite it's somewhat lighthearted, joking (and yet all too true) title, is a tell-all but not of the gossipy variety. Instead, Ms. Eustace shares what it's like to be over 40 and facin...more

This review, copied from Paperback Swap, sums up my thoughts perfectly. Well stated! I want my 2 hours back!

The dust jacket promises a "tell-all" and an "inside look at one of today's most sensational breakups" but the book delivers virtually nothing on the subject. Written in a bitterly-laughing-through-my-pain style that quickly becomes annoying, progresses to irritating, and finally is ultimately just boringly repetitive, the entire book masquerades as a how-to...more

Bitter is the new black! I skimmed this book, like many others, to find out the scoop on Tori & Dean. I think that this book is more about trashing her ex (in the case Dean Mcdermott.) I can't say I blame her, but she is just trying to capitalize off of the Tori Spelling legacy.

Food, maybe:

"I counted down the days to my party and made endless preparations: food prep, bar purchases, personal hygiene tweaks, and figuring out how much cheese was too much cheese." (I ca...more

Honestly I feel for Mary Jo Eustace. No one deserves to be hurt the way Dean McDermott hurt wife number 1. He may very have found his soul mate in Tori Spelling but he did wrong in the way he left his first wife.
I have watched Tori and Dean carry on their daily life on TV. It's really pretty good. I can see the attraction.
I have read Tori Spelling's 2 books and was surprised how likable she is. This book is not at all entertaining. This sounds mean but maybe the Eustace/McDermott m...more

Even though I am not going through a divorce I really enjoyed this book. It was well written, funny and extremely insightful.

I also appreciated the fact it was not a sleazy tell all and there was a little restraint. This is a good book to read if you are in a relationship as well - one of my friends found it really helpful in opening up a dialogue with her husband about some of their issues.

Informative but still fun a truly enjoyable read.

Hmm. I downloaded this book mostly because I was curious about divorce in the celebrity world, as well as divorce in general and what the experience is like for someone going through that. Overall, it was barely ok. I skipped a lot just because I lost interest. Maybe it'd be different if I were experiencing a divorce.

I only read this because it was written by Dean McDermott's (Mr. Tori Spelling) ex-wife. But, it was more like "Divorce For Dummies" with some anecdotes thrown in. I had to skim a lot of it just to get to the dish about her divorce and Tori. I guess if you're getting a divorce there are helpful hints in it though.

No, this is not a hint about my personal life. How this book ended up in my hands:
Ken Kostick died last week, a Canadian media personality. MJE did a little remembrance of him in an obit and I suddenly remembered their cooking show which I watched on Canadian TV. Then the name rang a bell. Hmm, isn't she Dean McDermott's first wife? With Tori Spelling being his second? Yes. Do I own sTORItelling? Yes, I do. It suddenly seemed imperative that I read this book. So I inhaled it in an hour or s...more

I am the anti self-help book kind of gal. I usually find them pretentious and I abhor talk of emmpowerment and self-actualization, but I like this. I'm finding it incredibly helpful and incredibly relatable in spite of my own situation being quite different, but her outlook is positive and optimistic and pragmatic. She definitely understands the devastation of divorce and challenges women to learn to take care of themselves and to learn to see the end of a previous life as a welcoming chanc...more

So far so good. I guess I was in the mood for a little juicy gossip regarding her ex husband and his new wife Tory Spelling. There are some tidbits, but not as much as I thought there would be. It is a very good book regarding how to cope going through divorce. How to protect your assets, money and sanity! Even if you aren't going through a divorce, I think her advise on things is pretty good. One should always remember to take care of things just in case. Also she is pretty funny with some stor...more

Sadly, cheery "Buck up, sister, you'll be fine" and "Woe is my, my husband left me for Tori Spelling" don't really go together...

good informative book;. It is by Dean McDermott's ex wife who he left for Tori Spelling. Part biography too which was my favorite part.
Courtney
Having read Tori Spelling's book, I felt it was only fair I give her husband's ex-wife's book a try.

The other side of the sordid story: Tori Spelling's husband's ex.
Melissa
Blah, didn't even finish it. Boring. And she doesn't even know the proper use of the words then & than. Annoying.
Meredith
Browsed this one... not nearly as much gossip as I wanted - even Candi's book was better!
Melissa
loved tori spellings book so I wanted to get her husband deans ex wife side of the story

This book was not what I thought it would be. It really is a more general look at divorce and how to deal with it.
Amanda
Always a pleasure reading about celebrities (and people who want to be celebrities) being insane.
