Although this wasn't the best parenting/self help book I have ever read I really appreciated a lot of the things she had to say and wishing that I could highlight and mark the book up, definitly a good sign. She addressed issues that I think most of society can see but don't address such as facing a society of "me, me, me" where people and friendships are no more than what they can do for you, distinguishing the difference between principles and preferences such as my preference is th...more

I only read half the book. It is written more for parents with older kids. Very conservative and right winged. I might pick it up again when my kids are a little older. Most of what I read was a reminder of what I have been taught. I am definitely not good at any of what she talked about and the book just reminded me of what is important and how I can try my best to be the best parent I can be. I have a lot to work on. I gave the book 3 stars because I hated reading through all the case studies ...more

this book was a fast read, but it had a lot of great ideas about how to be a better parent. I would recommend it to any parent. I like how she doesn't worry about "politically correct". She says what is true, and what has worked for her family, and she supports her views with facts.

This book is aimed primarily at parents of older children--at least school age. Reading it as the parent of a nearly 3 year old and 1 year old is helpful as it prepares the way for when my kids are older. It is full of practical wisdom and an abundance of resources--these are its definite strengths.

Hagelin is a professing Christian, though the book is aimed at religious conservatives, not necessarily Christians. This is a weakness, as it tries to be too many things to too many peo...more

So not having an easy time with this book. This was not written for a person like me. Don't know if I can keep plunging through it... Try as I might...

Update: just finished. I hate this book... Certainly written for a conservative Christian republican. I am Christian but that's about where it stops. I am the horrible parent she is writing about to protect your kids from. I would give less stars if I could.

Love this easy read book! A must read for parents with older kids. Great ideas on how to take charge of your home and make it fun!

Very intense and pretty much right wing. There were some helpful parts, especially related to the web and protecting children.

This book seems better suited for someone with older kids. My son is under 2 so I didn't find it useful for me right now. I do plan on reading it again when my son is older.
Jen
Definitely worth reading. She has some good, common-sense ideas here.

OK, so I didn't read the whole thing. I think this is a book to buy...but not yet for my young family. It's REALLY good, but geared towards families with pre-teens and teens. I did get some out of it, it;s a good resource, but in my opinion, would be a GREAT book for families with older kids. Check it out!

Reading right now... found while searching for some new options and solutions for one of my more "spirited" daughters who has recently taken quite a liking to tantrums and back-talking like no 3-yr-old I've ever seen! This book makes some great points- it's kind of a catch all of many types of parenting books combined into one, and I really like their perspective and approach so far. I'm excited to get going in this one and see what other positive ideas the author has that may be hel...more
