This book was incredibly well written by Jane Seville and has all the ingredients for a great read....action, kidnapping, courtroom drama, car chases, shoot outs, a big dose of humour and a beautifully told romance between two very unlikely characters.

But never met this Fellow
Attended or alone
Without a tighter Breathing
And zero at the bone.
—Emily Dickinson

This Fellow, either the hit man or the doctor. Either attended, looked after and taken care of, or alone through self-imposed darkness and ruthless exterior. No reason without a tighter Breathing since the potency of fear catches one's breath. And in one moment you could be left with nothing but a cold void shot through the core of the bone.

D got up and paced. It was pointless, but at le

Taken into protective custody and moved across country until he can testify against the killers, Jack finds himself separated from his friends, family and patients. While he is naturally upset at the situation Jack is at heart a good and honorable man and knows that he needs to do everything he can to bring the killers to justice.

Thank you so much Kelly for the recommendation I LOVED LOVED LOVED it

This book really surprised me as I usually go for books which are full of hot sex. YES you heard right I am shallow and love books with sex sex and more sex! But with this book something gripped me and kept me reading. Even now I'm not sure what it was? Maybe it was

*The gripping characters
*The fact D and Jack overcome past issues and move forward together or

More like a 3.75. I got this book because of all the great reviews it was getting and Seville is definitely a good writer. She really knows her way around a metaphor and I didn't feel like I was reading something I'd already read a million times.

The thing was that it got bogged down. At about 50% it had pretty much come to a stopping place. Although there were still important things to be finished, it didn't feel like it needed another 50% to resolve them. I ended up skimming a bit when the guys...more

A great "boy loves boy" Love Story with a thrilling escape and hunt for eternal happiness - 5 Huge Stars

The surgeon Jack Francisco becomes a witness to a mob murder and is put into protective custody until he can testify.
A hitman known as just "D" becomes forced a contract to kill the blueeyed doctor. According to D's own code of whom he takes elimination contracts on, he instead, takes Jack on a run. D sees as his task to ensure that Jack will be able to testify in the trial.

I’d love to be desired the way these two men desired each other. Their passion had me soaring. And the story was excellent.

REVIEWER’S OPINION:
This book (about a gay romance) took second place in the DABWAHA tournament with the results posted Spring 2010. Most of the voters were women who were voting for the best romance novel among various romance subgenres. This book is now one of my all time favorites.

4+! As a romantic suspense story, this was really good. In fact, the formula of this story reminded me a lot of a good Christy Reece romance suspense (a fav author of mine), except with a m/m spin. (She often pairs a dark shady hero with a good heroine above reproach, faces them off against multiple possible bad guys, and then protects them with a super-secret agency of professional good-guys with endless resources at their fingertips).

Zero at the Bone was an intense romance suspense with the m...more

All done! Loved it!

Loved the humor and the honesty.
Loved the firsts...first time they held hands, first time they hugged, first time D let down his defenses, first time they did the deed....first time they kissed, first time D bottomed :o)
Loved the cuddling, loved Jack's constant prodding until D shed his barriers.
Loved the sharing of all the "important" and "unimportant" things, establishing a connection that goes beyond words and sexual intimacy.

I love this book, it had everything, action, romance, suspense and humor, I absolutely loved Jack and D, wow the chemistry between them jumped out at you from each page, they clicked beautifully. The continuous banter was hilarious and the suspense scenes had me on the edge of my seat, intense and gripping. Emotionally its lovely when D opened his heart to love, slowly coming in from the cold. I couldn't put it down, its that good, a thrilling and wonderful story. Jack and D are fabulous guys, I...more

This book is something like watching an action mafia movie, only it has more personal drama and gay heroes Photobucket

The writing style is unusual, not like what I'm used to, so it took me a while to get over it and just read. D has some strange accent and speaks jargon all the time, so it took me a while to get used to that too lol

So the story is about Jack, the doctor with the perfect life, witnessing a murder done by the mob, and of course, after he goes to the witness list they all want him dead. D, t...more

I had seen this book popping up everywhere recently, it seemed like everyone was reading it and so far I hadn’t yet seen one negative review. So I had to give it a go, plus I have a new addiction to m/m romances at the moment. Lol

I will assume you have read the synopsis so I won’t go over all of that again…
I did notice that a few people seemed to have a bit of a problem with D’s accent, maybe finding it initially distracting trying to decipher what he was actually saying. But I didn’t have th...more

This story is very popular and I can see why. A good guy doctor falling for a dark, troubled hit man? And both men of the run from the real bad guys you couldn't have even thought up on your own?

Yeah man, this story will hit you like a speeding bullet. I'm not even rehashing the plot because I'm probably like one of the few who haven't read it yet. I just had this book collecting dust on in my TBR.

After reading the ever popular "Zero at the Bone", what do I think?

Maybe it's that I'm getting more demanding or impatient, or no longer feel the need to suffer through books that aren't holding my interest, but at 35% I just gave up. I had high hopes for this one. There were lots of great reviews and I really liked the premise, but the actual delivery fell short.

Jack, a surgeon, witnesses a murder and agrees to testify. He's taken into protective custody. D, an assassin, takes the job to take him out. Everything was going well, right up until the moment these...more

I tend to not like panning books; would rather simply not review at all. Writing is hard work, it's a labor of love, and I dislike tromping on people who are honing their craft (new authors), especially in a field as tight as m/m romance.

But this book has received so much positive press that I think I'd be doing a certain segment of readers a favor by speaking my thoughts. And if I do give a low rating, I feel I really should explain myself. So if the points below are ones that are important to...more

4.5 stars. While there were a few things about this book that irritated me, like D's heavy accent and the fact that the end just kind of peters out, overall this was very, very enjoyable. Especially compared to some of the other crap produced in this genre. Angsty, but not emo, and the internal dialog rings very true on many occasions, especially Jack's. Unlike many other romances where the internal dialog is limited to mental hand-wringing about the partner's perceived indifference or some stup...more

This is a novel of revenge, resurrection and atonement. It has goodies and baddies, sometimes indistinguishable from each other, and of course depending on which side you are on.

D the hired assassin has been having a crisis of conscience in recent years and picking and choosing the cases he accepts. Jack has witnessed a murder and can identify the killers, he is on the witness protection programme. The killing of an innocent witness (Jack) is not a job D wants but he is blackmailed into accepting...more

My impression reading this book?

It's like watch a very good action movie!!!

Jack

He is a very talented surgeon in the witness protection program. He saw a murder, and have no choice... he must testify against one of the most powerful and danger criminal organization.

D

(yeah, a letter... his name you will know only after a while)
He is a hit man.
Incredible cliché (sorry) but the better way to describe him is: a assassin with conscience. He pick his jobs, and use his "god/evil" judgment to decide...more

I don't really know what to say other than I really loved this book. I forced myself to read slow so I wouldn't have to end it so fast. I had this on my to read list for probably close to a month before I decided to force myself to read it because I haven't been able to find anything that holds a candle to the Cut & Run series by Abigail Roux. I've sorta been stuck on the Ty and Zane thing.

I think the thing I loved the most about this book was:

1. that it was longer than 150 pages. N...more

I've been on a jag lately looking for books that have characters that fit into a category of dangerous and broken. Well luckily my GR friends have once again come through and recommended exactly what I was looking for.

First we have D. D is broken, period.

I rated this book on how much I enjoyed it. It was a fabulous book, but for some reason it just didn't click for me.

I understand why they're ranked 1 in the best Gay Couples, I truly do, but to me they probably wouldn't be first.

They really do have a complicated, realistic, beautiful relationship. And I really really enjoyed reading about them, but it just didn't work for me I guess.

I really liked this book... apart from D's super annoying speech pattern. I get that he's supposed to be blue collar, "uneducated" or whatever, but I think less would have been WAY more on that end. If she had just sprinkled in a few of these here and there, it would have been more effective.

HOWEVER, I really thought the plot was gripping and full of great twists. And I really could not help but fall in love with both Jack AND D and their relationship dynamic. I am not ashamed to admit that the...more

Zero at the Bone is a lengthy male/male, literary erotica book with great character development and an intense thriller/suspense plot. From the beginning, what makes the book succeed is the chemistry steaming between an emotionally damaged hit man named, D, and the good-willed witness to a murder, a surgeon named, Jack. D is unable to complete his hit on Jack for reasons yet to unfold, but kidnaps him because he knows others will just follow to complete the job. Even though D has lost his morali...more

Jane Seville is an author living in Columbus, OH. She enjoys reading and writing about good-looking men doing naughty things to each other. She grew up around gay men; her mother directed the local gay men's chorus. Then she went off to a women's college, where as you might guess, she was surrounded by gay women. Despite not being gay herself, Jane has always had a deep connection to the gay right...more
