Dr. Jack Francisco witnesses a murder as he leaves work one day and before he knows it his life has changed completely. Taken into protective custody and moved across country until he can testify against the killers, Jack finds himself separated from his friends, family and patients. While he is naturally upset at the situation Jack is at heart a good and honorable man and knows that he needs to do everything he can to bring the killers to justice.

More like a 3.75. I got this book because of all the great reviews it was getting and Seville is definitely a good writer. She really knows her way around a metaphor and I didn't feel like I was reading something I'd already read a million times.
The thing was that it got bogged down. At about 50% it had pretty much come to a stopping place. Although there were still important things to be finished, it didn't feel like it needed another 50% to resolve them. I ended up skimming a b More...

I’d love to be desired the way these two men desired each other. Their passion had me soaring. And the story was excellent.
REVIEWER’S OPINION:
This book (about a gay romance) took second place in the DABWAHA tournament with the results posted Spring 2010. Most of the voters were women who were voting for the best romance novel among various romance subgenres. This book is now one of my all time favorites.

I tend to not like panning books; would rather simply not review at all. Writing is hard work, it's a labor of love, and I dislike tromping on people who are honing their craft (new authors), especially in a field as tight as m/m romance.
But this book has received so much positive press that I think I'd be doing a certain segment of readers a favor by speaking my thoughts. And if I do give a low rating, I feel I really should explain myself. So if the points below are ones that are More...

4.5 stars. While there were a few things about this book that irritated me, like D's heavy accent and the fact that the end just kind of peters out, overall this was very, very enjoyable. Especially compared to some of the other crap produced in this genre. Angsty, but not emo, and the internal dialog rings very true on many occasions, especially Jack's. Unlike many other romances where the internal dialog is limited to mental hand-wringing about the partner's perceived indifference or some stup

This is a novel of revenge, resurrection and atonement. It has goodies and baddies, sometimes indistinguishable from each other, and of course depending on which side you are on.

My impression reading this book?
It's like watch a very good action movie!!!
Jack

He is a very talented surgeon in the witness protection program. He saw a murder, and have no choice... he must testify against one of the most powerful and danger criminal organization.
D

(yeah, a letter... his name you will know only after a while)
He is a hit man.
Incredible cliché (sorry) but the better way to describe him is: a assassin with conscience. More...

Maybe it's that I'm getting more demanding or impatient, or no longer feel the need to suffer through books that aren't holding my interest, but at 35% I just gave up. I had high hopes for this one. There were lots of great reviews and I really liked the premise, but the actual delivery fell short.

WOW…now here is a book that really sticks with you. I finished this books a few weeks ago and decided to wait to write down my thoughts until I could really get a feel for what I had just read. Zero To The Bone is as close to perfection as you can get for me. With Jack and D, I found two beautiful, powerful character’s that kept me turning the pages well into the night. I am a total sucker for romance where one of the leads is almost inhumane and unfeeling in the beginning. Something about

Warning: I’m not going to make friends with this review. In fact: I might lose some, ha! But Zero at the Bone -practically considered a classic in the m/m genre- didn't do it for me. Most I can make of it is: ‘meh’, which translates to 2,5 stars.
It started out well: I really liked the premise of the story, I liked the fact that Jack held his own despite being helpless in the situation and I was intrigued by the dark and brooding D. I loved D's internal monologue about his vault, in More...

Not bad, but very highly overrated. D was supposed to be this badass loner master assassin, yet was pretty inept; and couldn't manage to do anything without turning to someone else for help. The plot was flimsy, and the plot-holes deep and wide. By the end of the book, they had turned into a gay Ozzie and Harriet. If this Romantic Suspense book had been about a hetero couple, it would never have made it to a publisher. It was just an weak story in general.

This had everything action, romance, suspense and humor, I absolutely loved Jack and D wow the chemistry between them jumped out at you from each page, they just clicked together and the continuous banter was hilarious. The suspense scenes had me on the edge of my seat they were that intense, the emotional aspect of D opening his heart to love and slowly coming in from the cold was perfect. I could not put this down one thrilling and beautifully written story.

4.5*
This is an amazing book. Very powerful emotionally. I was intrigued at how different the dynamics were with the m/m relationship. I loved how the relationship between D and Jack developed, and though I have almost nothing to compare it to, it felt believable. During the book I kept thinking how differently this book would have felt if Jack (or D) had been a woman. It's a great story, and it would have worked well either way, but the relationship dynamics aren't interchangeable. I More...

As I stated this is my second time with this book, and it again does not disappoint.
This book is about Jack Francisco, a surgeon. Who after witnessing a murder because of a cookie, is put into protective custody. In comes D, a hitman who is blackmailed into killing Jack. But when finally meeting Jack, he finds he can not kill an innocent man, and in each other they find very unlikely allies.

I would give this a 4.5. Wow, this is a great story. It's a combo mystery/romance. Sometimes the back story is just a vehicle to move the romance story forward but not as captivating as the relationship. I was equally as interested in discovering the answers to the mystery part as I was the budding romance between D and Jack. Great writing, great characters I highly recommend this book. The only reason I held back that half star was it went on about 3 chapters too long. It kinda ended where yo

Zero at the Bone Will Chill And Thrill
Fantastic. Just absolutely and utterly fantastic.
I won't go into another summary of the plot, it's been sufficiently and succinctly summarized in the product description. In fact, I'm not even sure I can review it as well as some have, but after reading Zero at the Bone, I just couldn't fail to add my complete appreciation and admiration of the book and its author.

This book is intense, gripping from the first word, and it doesn't let up. The main characters, Jack and D, are so sympathetic and likeable -- yes even the killer-for-hire -- that it was impossible not to root for them.
Jack is the all-around good, upstanding citizen. After witnessing the murder of a fellow employee in his hospital at the hands of two thugs working for the Dominguez brothers drug ring, Jack decides to testify as to what he saw. He's a little naive to the dangers he's More...

After reading some negative reviews of this book awhile back and learning it was Brokeback Mountain fanfic, I wasn't interested in reading it. I stumbled across it recently, liked the premise and gave it a go, not realizing it was the book I'd written off back then. I'm glad I gave it a chance, because it ended up being one of the best stories, m/m or not, that I've read recently.

I'm sorry, people. Those who rated this book as a five need to read more then the back of toilet paper wrappers.
I've read this plot before. It was horrid then and this one is no better. Let's see....surgeon in the Witness Protection program falls in love with an assassin. At the end, he is all comfy-cozy snuggled next to a guy who makes his living as the final judge and executioner of other peoples' lives. I think they call that...in almost any civilized country...murder.

I ordered this expecting it to be an M/M romance with some light mystery thrown in to enhance it. What I got, however, was a suspenseful action thriller with a well thought-out plot, complex characters and a romantic subplot. An exciting story worth savoring - and re-reading.
Dr. Jack Francisco is unfortunate enough to witness a mob hit in a parking garage. He's immediately ushered into witness protection, but a hit has already been put out on him. D is a hired killer, only he has rules More...

Loved the story! Loved the interaction between the two main characters!
Meet Jack Francisco. A maxillofacial surgeon who happened to be at the wrong place, at a very wrong time where he witnessed a murder before his eyes. Being a man of honor and an upright citizen, he decided to testify and was put on a witness program - leaving all he has known behind. His family, career and friends.

I was torn between giving this book 4 or 5 stars. Ultimately, I would have given it a 4.5. Jane Seville really knows her stuff, and it's evident she researches before she writes (if she doesn't, then she makes up some pretty convincing stuff). I really enjoyed the storyline and characters because it was very different from what I have been reading so far.

Oh my god, this book. This book was made of awesome.
Basically, this book does what I've always wanted, which is a thriller/action/suspense film/book, but with gay characters as the main actors rather than straight ones. I wanted that in the way that I just want some characters to be gay in some media, because in my world, in my life, some folks are gay. And it's not a big drama, like "omg I have to come out and it's SO HARD and angst and sturm und drag," it's just real life, More...

If left to my own devices, I probably wouldn't have read this book. As a mystery/action novel, it isn't my usual genre, and “gay for you” is not my favorite type story. As it happens, this was the July novel for my one book group and after debating briefly with myself, I bought the book, because the purpose of me joining this group was to try new things.

Wow. This book was amazing, much more than I could have ever imagined. First off, let me start off by saying I'm usually an Urban Fantasy/PNR reader, so this book was a little off the beaten path. Also, I've never read a m/m romance before, so that was new as well.
I'm a stickler for writing and character development, and let me say, on both aspects, this book earns 5 stars. The writing was smooth and easily transitioned from Jack and D's points of view. Their inner dialogue felt like th More...

This is one of the very first romance novels I've read that had absolutely ZERO vagina in it. And you know what? I didn't miss it AT ALL.
I think I've probably read this book a half dozen times now and it just gets better with every read. I love D. I love that he's completely inhumane at the beginning of the book and that by the end he's so human you fall in love with him right along with Jack. They are a perfect couple.
But my favorite passage in the novel is this one:
