I found myself at the bookstore yesterday looking for a good stand-alone book to read. I found this one. I liked the cover and the plot intrigued me, so I bought it.
By the first page, I was already irked. One of my pet-peeves is designer label dropping. Urg. I just can't explain how much this annoys me. Let me tell you, there was plenty of label dropping. 'She opened her COACH bag', etc. oh, and 'she watched a REESE WITHERSPOON movie'. Current pop-culture references irk me too.. haha More...

I read this book for a class in Technology and youth librarianship. The book has a tie-in website, which is incorporated in the text of the book where readers can write characters and vignettes that could be incorporated into books later in the series, and participate in other story aspects. The website and collaborative creation is very cool, well done, and interesting in a lot of ways, but I have the feeling that without the nifty "new media" hook this book wouldn't have been publi

Summary from the book: When enigmatic high schooler Amanda Valentino disappears, her friends vow to find her, but...they realize they thought they knew about her was false. At the website, readers can write stories, post art, share theories about Amanda, design and buy clothing and accessories.
And therein lies the rub. When I first started reading the story, I was intrigued by the mystery, not only who is Amanda, but what happened to Callie's mother, why was Bea so important and what More...

I love a good mystery, so I just ate this book up! Something about the clues throughout reminded me a bit of The Westing Game, which I adore. It was fluff and I had issues with some of the writing (eg. felt the main character, an otherwise intelligent girl, was sometimes dense simply for the sake of exposition) but it was an all around good read.
Especially intrigued by the missing character, Amanda Valentino, who is crazy smart (emphasis on crazy?) and creative. She's got this great s More...

Summary: Callie Leary is not friends with Nia and Hal, but the three are thrown together to be guides for Amanda who has mysteriously disappeared and left them with nothing but strange clues including the vice principal’s car covered in a rainbow of colorful drawings and symbols. They didn’t realize that Amanda had befriended each of them separately and they all have a different story of who Amanda really is. As part of a series, The Amanda Project attempts to figure out who is Amanda and wher

Although this high school mystery poses more questions than it answers, this is a good read for anyone who is after something a little bit different in their teen novel. It's a collaborative project (which took me a bit of Googling to figure out) between multiple authors working under the alias Stella Lennon, and there is also an interactive website where you can sign up and contribute your own stories. It's an interesting way to blur the boundaries between the reader and the author, and I think

Amanda Valentino changed everything.
Callie Leary has exactly one thing, and one thing only, in common with Nia Rivera and Hal Bennett: They were each chosen by Amanda to be her guide. Amanda Valentino is a freak. Everyone in the ninth grade knows it and her clothes, wigs, temporary tattoos, and even her school grades prove it. Amanda is the new girl at Endeavor High, who just happened to arrive on Halloween. No one wants to be seen with her, especially Callie, one of the popular I-girls. She doesn’t want to admit that she has a friendship with Amanda but when Amanda disappears and leaves clues behind for her, that’s a hard thing to keep secret. When Callie finds out two other

I was a little dubious about this at first. It sounded an awful lot like Paper Towns by John Green: girl commits wild act of vandalism, girl disappears, friends don't know what happened to girl and have to follow clues to find her. Beyond these basic plot points, though, Invisible i is nothing like Paper Towns. For a start, the main character, Callie, is a "mean girl" type who is hiding all the abnormal things about herself in order to fit in with the popular crowd. When her secret fri

I picked up this book because I thought it was the newest book by one of my more beloved authors, Melissa Kantor, and was really surprised when the book cover credited Stella Lennon. So I thought, "Did I pick up the wrong book? And who the heck is Stella Lennon?" After much Googling, I realized that Stella Lennon was just an alias. Kantor actually DID write this book; it's just that the Amanda Project is a series, and the next two books are written by different authors that they all de

There was a lot of potential for The Amanda Project but it just didn’t come together. I was intrigued by the plot and some of the plot points the story introduced, but there was a lot of stuff that kept it from being anything remarkable. The first major thing was the writing; it was very passive and there was a whole lot of telling and not showing. Whenever the main character Callie reacted to something, she would describe it as such: “What he just said made my stomach turn and I felt sick and n

The Amanda Project has a very commercial/trendy feel, but after I got 1/4 into it I started to get really absorbed. I can't say I always knew all the details that were going on, like which note had been picked up etc., but the general plot and characters. Mostly the characters were interesting as it's another rich mean girls get away with everything and eventually get their comeupance. What I liked were Hal, Nia and Callie. Artistic Hal, always trying to keep the peace between Nia and Calli

What a quirky little book this is! I had great fun reading it. It even has its own website – yeah it’s aimed at teenagers but I still had a blast reading it.

It starts with three pupils – Callie, Hal and Nia who are all in the same grade but have nothing in common – being summoned to the Principals office and accused of knowing where Amanda Valentino has disappeared to. Invisible I is a promising start to what could be a great series! Invisible I takes you through Amanda's disappearance and her 3 "guides" quest to find her. It was definately a page turner, because I kept thinking Who's Amanda? and What's She Doing? This was a totally fun read.
My issue with Invisible I was that it didn't seem come to any point. For Book 1, I don't necessarily want all the answers for the series, but I'd like a little more information. When Book 1 finishes More...

Book one in the Amanda Project series.
Amanda Valentino is the new girl in school. She tells Callie that she moves around a lot. In order to quickly feel like a part of any new school, Amanda chooses one student to be her guide. Callie feels honored and special to be chosen as a friend by the charismatic Amanda.
When she is called to the office because of one of Amanda's pranks, she is faced with two other students, Nia and Hal, who also thought they were Amanda's only More...

No exceptional writing. A very shallow main character. It's stereotypical. Frankly, if the mystery wasn't so intriguing I would give this book a one. But the mystery is so good! >.< I just wanna know what happened to Amanda!
My problems with this book:
1.written for 10 year olds. But for high schoolers.
2. Freshman are not that cool. No matter how much they think they are.
3. The I-Gilrs? Seriously?
4. Way to cliche.
5. Way to many "like"'s, " More...

I really like the idea of this book. It gets the readers involved in a lot of ways. You read the books, you log on to the website, create a profile and join the fictional world of Amanda. You get to share your stories about amanda and where you think she is, and all your other thoughts on the clues and hints.

In this book, The Amanda Project, these three teenagers all have a best friend named Amanda. Amanda is this super cool, everyone wants to be her, but also totally free spirited and speaks her mind chick. The thing is that the three kids didn't know Amanda was also good friends with the others. Amanda suddenly goes missing, leaving behind a trial of clues to who knows where, brining the three teens together.

The book starts off with Callie, she is in class and get's called out to go to the vice principal's office. When she gets there there are two other kids from her school, Hal and Nia. Callie and Hal used to be friends a long time ago but their friendship died, so Callie was really confused when she gets called into the office and there are two people sitting there that she doesn't talk to. The vice principal then informs them that they are in trouble for vandalizing his car. Of course none of the

I really did enjoy this book. I heard about the website a few months ago, so when I found the book at the library I had to check it out. The website aspect confuses me a little bit - how much do the "characters" online change what's happening in the plot of the book series? But ignoring the online aspect, the book itself is quite good. There's lots of twists and turns, and I found the main trio likable for the most part (especially once Callie realizes who her true friends are). Amanda

This is obviously the start to a new series and I would say that, given the content and the ages of the teens, this book might appeal to your average female middle school student. I believe that high school students might find it a bit too juvenile. Definitely doesn't contain any inappropriate content and isn't edgy in any way.

When Amanda Valentino mysteriously disappears, Callie, Hal and Nia discover that Amanda chose each one to be her "guide" at her new school. Seemingly with nothing in common, the trio band together to figure out clues Amanda left behind and hopefully find Amanda. I'm guessing there must be at least three books in this series, since Callie narrates this volume. It looks like the Hal narrates the next volume, and I suppose Nia will do the third. I like this concept, although I feel like i

This book was better than I expected. "The Amanda Project" is the story of Amanda Valentino, a student at Endeavor High, and three of her friends (guides) - Callie, Hal, and Nia - who try to find her after she becomes MIA. Amanda leaves clues for them, and the three friends search for Amanda for the majority of the book. The cool part of this story is that readers can log in to the website at theamandaproject.com, and add their thoughts to the story - creating characters and helping

Oddly enough the cover shows Stella Lennon as the author while the title page shows Melissa Kantor. With a real Veronica Mars sensibility the beginning title in The Amanda Project introduces Callie, whose astronomer mother has disappeared and whose depressed father has taken up drink and lost his job, Hal, former art nerd turned hottie, and Nia, labeled a loser back in middle school. The three are called together by the assistant principal who wants to know their relationship to Amanda Valentino

This has some typical YA coming-of-age tropes (it's better to be yourself and unpopular than the be popular and false, power corrupts, etc). But it also has some fun twists and mysteries, revolving around the disappearance of Amanda Valentino. And the book is interactive- there is an online community that has joined in the search, a website that drops hints, even a QR code on the back cover to give you a little more information.
So, ok, the story is light and fun and I want to see the conclu More...

Another YA book that I thought was just ok that will probably appeal far more to the actual target audience. In fact, it seems it has. I just ran by the tie-in website and found plenty of posts within the last day. Not bad for a book released nearly two years ago.
I have a couple issues, but other readers may overlook them. The first is the stereotypical clique. I am getting a little bored by this storyline, which consumes much of the book. For one, it doesn't match my experiences in an More...
