Picked it up at the place that replaced borders for $5 and was reading it while I waited for Reel Steel to start (amazing by the way). And this book sure jumped right into the plot. Too bad I lost the book in my bedroom. How is that possible? You are probably asking, well I am the one person that can make it possible. So when I find it, I'll review and rate it properly.

Why the fuck did I ever read that book? I mean the title reveals it all, including: “Don’t read me. I'm shit." A demon Princess? This is something we don't hear of everyday. So when a mysterious, but cute, guys begins following Nikki around every where, she gets annoyed. So when she confronts him, she's hoping for an "I'm sorry." Not a "You're the Demon Princess and you're in danger." Thus begins this in thrilling tale of Nikki and her new found news, not to mention her powers.

I’m sorry I haven’t been posting much lately. I’ve been busy working and READING. I read three books last week. I get in a cycles where I read nonstop and do almost nothing else. It’s not good for my waistline but still worth it.

I really liked how Michelle Rowen fictionalized her stories. I was introduced to her writing on "Dark Kiss," in which I very much enjoyed reading it. While waiting for book 2 of Nightwatchers series, I decided to read this book. The synopsis was so enticing and intriguing. Demon Princess had a very fresh take on demons. I liked that they weren't necessarily bad or evil like most books. The world-building was also top notch, and I hope we'll get to see more of it, like the faery realm, in the next book. Rowen also did a very good job weaving the supernatural adventure into Nikki's every day life that included school and dances.

Yep, that first line had me hooked. Reading Demon Princess is like sinking into a relaxating read that keeps a light, happy smile on your face all the way through. Michelle Rowen writes with a light, bubbly aura that radiates throughout the story. While she keeps the story moving forward with dialogue, she builds up the various settings in a way that captivates the reader's imagination.

So,when I picked this book I thought it would be awesome.Is sounded a lot like Demon Envy by Erin Lynn,which I loved.But,man the book started somewhat fine and went downhill from there.

This was a very cute and fun book. I enjoyed reading it very much, and I am looking forward to reading the second book in the series.

Nikki Donovan is a sixteen year old who just recently moved to a new town and also discovers that she is a Demon Princess, half human and half demon. Nikki is undoubtedly a realistic and likable character; she struggles to come to terms with the knowledge that she isn’t entirely human, and even if she is somewhat shallow, she has a good and caring heard, as evidenced by her valid friendship with popular Melinda and her protectiveness of her mother. Another plus was the development of the minor characters, which I enjoyed reading about very much. There were only a couple of characters that escaped this trend by being too evil or too perfect, but as a whole, the cast was very believable. The plot is fun and exciting, with the unpredictability of Nikki’s half demon nature, the king’s mysterious ailment, and especially Nikki and Michael’s forbidden romance. For a debut young adult novel, I am quite impressed that such as lighthearted and entertaining read as Reign or Shine is could be so enjoyable for me, even if I was generally one step ahead of the plot. The greatest part of this is that there’s so much room for the story to grow, character-wise and with plot surprises, in a sequel. There’s nothing particularly meaningful about this novel, but it is still a great read for a boring day.

Reign or Shine will be enjoyed by those who also liked Need by Carrie Jones, Repossessed by A.M. Jenkins, and Devilish by Maureen Johnson. I look forward to catching the continuation of this story in its sequel Reign Check.

Faeries and unicorns were both introduced in a new way. Rowen also introduced some new creatures like Shadows and Darklings. I really liked the idea of her father being a demon king. It added so much uniqueness and excitement to the novel, and the plot twists involving the Shadowlands and who was going to rule kept me turning the pages. While at times it was a bit predictable, overall Reign or Shine was a well orchestrated and original novel that was a great beginning to what I'm sure will be a terrific series.

Nikki was a great main character. She wasn't afraid to speak her mind, or kick some serious demon butt. She was thoughtful and intuitive. Nikki was able to figure things out and stand up for herself. Her mother was another solid character, I loved how she was a romance writer. Both of Nikki's parents played large roles and her best friend did as well. Melinda wasn't your typical preppy/popular girl and she had real substance, I'm just a bit suspicious of her after the "joking" comment she made with Nikki about demons. I don't want to give anything away though!

Michael was a sweet and realistic character, and I liked how he really cared for Nikki. I'm especially interested in seeing how their relationship progresses in book 2. There are some "bad guys" in this novel, and I was really surprised once I figured out who they were!

Overall, this was a great YA debut and I'm really looking forward to seeing where things go in the sequel. If you're looking for an exciting and original series, that's both lighthearted with darker parts tied in, you'll love this book!

This book was exciting! Reign or Shine is a great story about family, friends, and romance set inside a fantastical, paranormal universe. I really enjoyed the characters, and the different realms / dimensions were awesome. The way Michelle describes them, made me want to take off and explore, especially the faerie realm. This is just the sort of book I love. The idea of a girl having a normal, human life and then discovering that someone they know or they themselves are some sort of paranormal creature destined for an unnatural life. Throw in a love story and I'm set. Yep this book gave me all that and a few twists at the end. Perfect. Well, almost. Nikki is cool. She is who she is without being obnoxious or overbearing but true to herself. Her choice in boys is questionable and understandable for a 16 year old. She wants what everyone wants, to be accepted and a lucky circumstance leads her to being friends with the most popular girl in school who actually has a heart and a personality. It's also hinted at bit later in the book that she may not be entirely as she seems. Oooh, mystery! There's the stereotype guys in here, the one every girl wants and the one that you aren't allowed to have. It works perfectly with the story and adds necessary elements to keep the reader intrigued.

The way the worlds and creatures are described really put a clear picture in your head and even sound like the way I would imagine them anyway. Reign or Shine is a fantastic YA fantasy read. This book wraps up the main story but leaves hints of what is to come next which I would liken to Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series in that aspect. I can't wait to read Reign Check! Waiting will be painful. YA fantasy lovers give this a read. I've seen a few mixed reviews but if you love those genres together I don't see how you could not like this.

Cover: It's pretty. Love the writing. Love the picture. I think Nikki's eyes are hazel in the story so the girls eyes are the wrong colour. Other than that it's a good pic to base her character on.

This started out as a 3, quickly dropped to a 2 (when I totally guessed the major points of the climax and almost stopped reading) and then ended on a 4.

I really liked the last 100 pages or so of this book and I'm interested to see where the story goes next. I know there is a sequel, but beyond that I'm not sure how many more books are in the series.
