One of the most overrated Asian American playwrights of the lat 1980s-early 1990s. This is her first major play, and it features minimal props and a chorus. Her next play featured minimal props and a chorus. Every other play of hers that I've read features minimal props, and a chorus. Wong is a one trick pony who hasn't contributed much, but managed to get in print, mostly this play which got at least half a dozen printings in collections of plays. Just awful.
This is by far my favorite play. This story, based on real events and real correspondence exchanged between two women, is absolutely fabulous. There's something for everyone here. Elizabeth Wong is a truly gifted playwright -- and a wonderful, warm, lovely woman with whom to work. I feel infinitely blessed to have worked with her and a fabulous crew at my university to put on this play. My heart and spirit have been touched forever. I will always recommend this play!
