“The Marshall Takes a Bride” by Renee Ryan is part of her 'Charity House' series, and I don't know what I was thinking when I first gave this book a 3 star rating the first time around for it is now a 4 star rating. Hey if I can enjoy a book this much a second time around then it is certainly worth more than just an average star rating.

Though this is part of a series, this is a great stand alone book as well. Technically if you go by dates that the books are published this book is the first book

Charity House
Book 1

This was an excellent start to what looks to be a promising series.

U.S. Marshal Tray Scott lost his wife and unborn child when a mad man gunned her down to hurt him. For the last several years, Tray has been on Ike's trail, and he doesn't plan to stop until the man is dead. Sweet talking, beautiful Kathleen cannot understand Tray's hatred for a man. She wants him to turn the other cheek and allow justice to be served.

Meanwhile, Kathleen is still trying to recover from her mo

Katherine Taylor’s mother was prostitute. She was sent back east to a boarding school, but returned before graduating to care for her ill mother, who subsequently died. Within months of this she is raped by a former customer of her mother’s and she discovers that she has a 5 year old sister. The child’s father, a miner, perished and the child had been abandoned. Katherine retrieves her from the mining camp and she and her sister now live in Charity House, an orphanage, run by Laney and Marc. She ...more

Excellent book! After the death of her mother, a well-known madame, Katherine Taylor is raising her five-year old sister, Molly. She works at Charity House, helping out with forty other orphans, many of whom are the children of prostitutes.

Katherine is fighting a losing battle to escape the past and the unfair, sorted reputation she’s gained, when Marshal Trey Scott unwittingly puts her in a compromising position that further damages her reputation and puts Charity House at risk.

She stubbornly b

I guess this book is inspired by real events. It's a Christian sorry about a US Marshall marrying his long loved girlfriend in an emergency ceremony after she had been attacked by a would be rapist. He felt that she world be safer if he could take her to his family Ranch but in order for her to travel alone for that distance they had to be married. (good old days) The attacker was murdered and the murderer was loose to come after the girl who had seen him murder.

Trey and Katherine

I enjoyed this book but not as much as the previous one I read. This is the story of a marshal and daughter of a prostitute.

Read this book before Outlaw's Redemption. I liked part of this book and I cried during part of the book. I guess I just followed the emotions for the main character. Katherine loves Trey, but he has to realize his mistakes and make changes to deserve a life with Katherine. If you almost like this book, read the Outlaw's redemption. I liked this story of Trey's brother more than Trey's story.

Fast becoming one of my favorite authors, Renee Ryan certainly wrote another great story with this book. I've read the vengence tale a few times before before, but this one was the most endearing and well-written.

Good start to the Charity House series. The struggle between holding onto the past and trying to start a future together gives a depth to the characters as they work together to move forward together and with God.

The characters come to life in the very first scene and go on to enthrall and ensnare me in their story.

Fabulous story.

Renee Ryan grew up in a small Florida beach town. Surfing didn’t work for her, but that didn’t keep her from watching others tackle the waves. To entertain herself during those countless hours of “laying-out”, she read many of the classics. It wasn’t until the summer between her sophomore and junior years at Florida State University that she read her first romance novel. Hooked from page one, she ...more
