Miller writes with great clarity and insight into this fascinating investigation of the range and contradictions within the literature of this period. Her subtitle "Fighting the People's War" can be interpreted as its straight-forward meaning. But Miller is especially addressing the conflicts (fighting) arising when investigating the myths of the People's War. She is fighting the myths.
