When Roland is involved, only good can come of it and this short story (that I originally read in the compilation book Everything's Eventual) served his story well. Set before Roland has caught up to the Man in Black, where the first Dark Tower novel takes place, Roland is set upon by a gang of mutants whilst on his journey. He is injured and taken in by a group of nurses/cannibalistic witches, named the Sisters of Eluria. Here we are exposed to the potent Dark Tower story threads that fans of t...more

I've read The Little Sisters of Eluria as a part of Everything's Eventual collection but it's worthy of a separate note. As for limited edition, it looks gorgeous! I love Michael Whelan's illustrations. Pity I can't have it.

It's a shame, I think this is the very last piece from Stephen King about Roland Deschain that I've read. There are no more. Honestly, I'll miss the gunslinger.

By my calculations, Roland is around 30 years old in The Little Sisters of Eluria. He's a dangerous gunslinger but n...more

A Fantastic short story about Roland Deushain of gilead along his quest to find the dark tower, this story takes place before Roland meets up with Jake, Eddie and his other compainions. If your like me and love the Dark tower series then dont miss this story, It doesnt matter if you choose to read this before durning or after you read the dark tower novels, This is a great story to get you started with the Series though and worth reading

This is a short story that takes place for Roland Deschain somewhere way after the story he tells in Wizard and Glass, and possibly just before The Gunslinger, but during his chase of the man in black. I don't remember much about it because it has very little bearing on anything else in The Dark Tower series other than Roland is involved. I do remember that I liked it, though, and suggest checking it out.

I have not read this version of the story, although this limited edition is absolutely gorgeous. Donald E. Grant has been doing King's limited editions of the Dark Tower books since the beginning in the 1980's. The title story is good and a well done addition to the Dark Tower Universe and comes with the revised version of the first Dark Tower book: The Gunslinger.

A great little story about Roland and his quest for the Dark Tower. I wished I wud have read it earlier. But I just got done reading The Wind Through the Keyhole and remembered this story. I loved it. If you are a Dark Tower nut like I am, don't make the same mistake I did and wait to read this. You will not be disappointed, I promise.

This story was like coming home to a long lost friend. I was happy to be back on the journey with Roland and enjoyed every moment ka had given me. This tale was well met indeed. Stephen, you remember the face of your father well. I can't wait for more tower stories.
Ana
It's a short book, so a review for it would be pointless.

Needless to say it was a good pre-book to the series.

The quote that impressed me the most: If there's to be damnation, let it be by my choosing, not theirs.

I have this Donald Grant edition, signed by the artist, Michael Whelan. This copy will stay in wraps; I'll read the trade edition. This Artist's edition (2,888 of 4,000) is currently selling for around $200, and appreciating.

I'm not sure, the title doesn't say The Little Sisters of Eluria, but it is the revised/expanded version and I'm currently reading the beginning in which Roland is following the Man in Black across the desert

A Dark Tower novella that is more classic King horror than the rest of the DT material. Really nice and succint, although my one complaint would be that Roland feels a little one-dimensional.

I think what I liked about this story (a novella really) is that it shows the range SK has to work with in the Dark Tower world. It's definitely the closest to straight-up horror that he gets in all the DT work. It's good stuff though. If Roland is a character you like to follow, this book will be worth tracking down.
Adriana
This was my introduction to the Dark Tower series. It's so good that it encouraged me to keep reading after the Gunslinger, my least favorite DT book.

Gotta' love a good Stephen King tale; especially one from the Dark Tower series. Thoroughly enjoyed and was creeped out by this creepy, buggy novelette!

Piccolo spin off della Torre Nera. Niente di catartico, ma fa colore, e i dottori sono parecchio inquietanti.

This was in an anthology, which I can't remember the name of, so I'll use the stand-alone to mark it read.

I didn't know this existed! I MUST find a copy! :: UPDATE :: Leon just found this!

I loved it. It is a short story of Rolands life and adventure before the first dark tower book. It takes place but on his quest to find the man in black. As a dark tower fan I allways wanted to hear more about the gunslingers adventures. this was a good story in a time frame we have not heard a lot about.

A prequel to the DT series. Great collectors item as well.

A fantastic little story for Dark Tower nerds like me.

Really, really, really good!!!

I found a large compilation of short stories that I was given a long time ago, and finally broke it open. The first of many stories was Stephen King's The Little Sisters of Eluria. The large book itself is titled "Legends," with stories by authors Tad Williams, Orson Scott Card, Terry Pratchett, and more!

In Little Sisters we learn a little more about Roland's past, post-Wizard and Glass, pre-how we know him today. It takes place earlier in his travels following Walter.
Colleen
This short story takes place after the fall of Gilead, during the early days of Roland's quest for the Dark Tower. My favorite parts of the D.T. series are the flashbacks ("Wizard and Glass", which is almost entirely a flashback, is my favorite of the seven books), so I ate this up. Sad thing is, for as big a Dark Tower fan as I am, I didn't even know about this story until very recently. Good as a stand-alone, but even better if you know Roland's history.
Lindsay Soumah
Love the descriptiveness of the sisters, I could picture them in my mind. Eww!
Randee Taylor
I read this right before re-reading The Gunslinger. They didn't really go together as well as I hoped.
Jeff
I found this in "Legends 1" after I read wind through the keyhole. Good short novel and I'm about to start the actual Dark Tower series.
Donna
An OK story from King, although miles from his best!
