I am a great fan of Scott Kelby's Photoshop books. Not only are they humorous, they also show (usually) great techniques with lots of illustrations and teach you things about Photoshop. I probably learned at least a third of my Photoshop tricks from his books. As usual, this book is very easy to understand, and is written so that you can jump in at any page and get your hands dirty.
