The fire burned hot and red in the pit, and Saphyre's eyes again began to long for the sweet respite of slumber. Still, she dared not close them for a moment in the presence of these strangers, and so it was she continued to study the men—wonder of their lives before the keep—and their secrets. It was certain they owned secrets—for did not she? All human beings owned secre...more

Second Read Nov 2011: This is a retelling of Snow White, which is not a favorite fairy tale of mine. I did like the changes Marcia made to the story and enjoyed Saphyre Snow.

First Read Nov 2010: This is a companion novel to The Crimson Frost and a retelling of Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs. I liked the beginning and the end, the middle got a little boring for me. I guess I didn't really like all the time and detail that went into Saphyre at the keep. Saphyre was a little annoying, I kind of...more

Saphyre Snow is fleeing for her life from her step-grandmother–a woman whose beauty is rivaled only by her acute narcissism. Saphyre soon finds herself in the company of seven men on the outskirts of society, each for his own reasons. They vow to protect Saphyre from any harm that may befall her.

In return Saphyre wants to show her gratitude and concern for each of them in a way that meets the particular need of each. Over the course of several weeks, she gets to know each of the men very well, a...more

I would very loosely call this a sequel to Crimson Frost. Though I think you appreciate Saphyre's heritage (she is a great great granddaugher of Broderick and Monet) much more and will certainly better understand the sword more if you have read Crimson Frost it is not a necessary pre-read. This book is entertaining in its parody of "Snow White" which I happen to really enjoy so it made the book endearing though at times predictable. I was enthralled with Rogan and the other 6 men aiding the prin...more

Ms. McClure has taken a so-so fairy tale (Snow White) and worked it into a great romance. Gone is the insipid prince who only shows up at the end to kiss her and live happily ever after, replaced with a hot, complicated rogue in hiding. Instead of seven little dwarfs there are seven equally interesting and tortured souls (o.k. so there are two dwarfs among them) all who agree to befriend and protect the heroine. This alone makes the tale much more fun to read. Saphyre's syrupy musing about her t...more

Okay, what can I say about this book. I really wanted to love it, but there were just a lot of things that bugged me. I loved the idea of retelling the fairy tale of snow white, and it definitely gave new meaning to "some day my prince will come", (the rogue knight was a hit, and totally made me rethink my first kiss). But I just didn't love the heroine. She felt really underdeveloped to me, especially in comparison to the hero of the story. The "seven dwarf" characters had more to them than she...more

I love the twist on Snow White. So creative! I love Saphyre Snow. She is so caring and thoughtful. And Rogan...well he's just a character you want to kiss. I love all of Marcia Lynn Mcclure's kissing scenes. They are so clean but at the same time want to make you find your husband and do a little of your own kissing. :)

Ahh Marcia! I just love you! This is a retelling of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, only instead of dwarves, you have outcasts, and instead of a step-mother, it's a step-grandmother, and instead of a handsome patsy prince, you get a tough, good looking, rogue who can best 13 men at once and steal plenty of good kisses! Sigh!
Saphyre is truly a beautiful girl inside and out. After escaping from the evil queen, she takes shelter in the ruins of an old castle keep. There she meets the brothers of t...more

Can I say that this book left me UNDONE? In a good way! This 'retelling' of Snow White - if it can even be called that, for if you ask me Ms. McClure REINVENTS the old hum-drum fairy tale - was engaging, suspenseful, and superbly romantic! I found myself looking forward to the next time I would be able to spend time with this book, found myself thinking about the 'seven souls' throughout my day even. Ms. McClure did a great job incorporating elements from the traditional tale while still making...more

A third Marcia McClure book in less than a month? I must be a fan. If you are a closet fan (as I am) of sentimental, predictably happy (and, yes, slightly cheesy) love stories, then this is the author for you. Oh, and there are plenty of steamy kissing scenes, but thankfully the author never feels the need to have her characters advance further than that during the narration. Really, her books are fairy tales for grown women.

This particular book is a re-telling of an actual fairy tale - Snow Whi...more

What better distraction from a cold than by reading Marcia's latest? None, I assure you... :) I just finished the authors note, and found it interesting that she and I are alike in the not liking the Snow White fairytale so much. I have been waiting to read this full length, for I much prefer her stories that way, for her having a version of a Snow White retelling intrigued me so! And it's a no wonder I adore her work, I'm a lot like her in so many ways, I love it...
With this book she has taken...more

At first when I started reading this book I was not to sure about it because It is similar to the Snow White story....but once again Marcia does justice to any story and I ended up loving it. I was never fond of the Snow White story for some reason. I don't know if Disney's version made it that way or something else. I didn't really like watching the cartoon and therefore it turned me off on the story. Marcia on the other hand opened my eyes to the potential of this story. I LOVE IT!! Rogan is a...more

Okay, so sometimes it pays to not know what the book is about before you read it. That is what happened with this book, and thankfully so. Now Snow White has never been my favorite fairy tale...in fact I'd say it is probably my least favorite, but I LOVED this version!!!
Do not be put off by my telling you that it is a Snow White story. It was full of all the humor, sexual tension and passion that we all know and love in Marcia's books, PLUS the "seven dwarves" are awesome...totally not creepy li...more

Okay, okay, I've only read 2 Marcia Lynn McClure books, but I'm a fan. I really love a good love story. And, she sure does know how to tell 'em. I must admit that there were so many main characters in the story that throughout the first half of the book, I couldn't remember who was who, but I had it straightened out at the end. I absolutely loved the underlying theme of service and love to all. Can I change Aimee's quote to "Rogan, take me away" (instead of Calgon)...hee hee...not that I want hi...more

I just can't help loving everything that Marcia writes! Her characters are so real to me and I love the way they evolve throughout the story. This was Snow White at its very best telling. I loved the brothers of the keep right from the start, and Saphyre was just the girl to get them in touch with their true selves. I love the message of beauty within and individual worth. The romance was over the top as always and made me giggle, smile and sigh throughout :)

I do not know why I pushed this book to be the last book to read in my book pile, for it was amazing. I admit, it was very similar to Snow White. Although they're somewhat different, I really enjoyed it. Rogan and who he is, completely threw me at the end. It's a great story of a young women fearing of what would happen if she was to remain in the castle as it's princess when her father was slowly falling into a madness that begun with her grandfather. Cold from the wilderness she sought refuge...more

I'm not a big fan of fantasy/magic books so I was a little hesitant to buy Saphyre Snow but had just finished Crimson Frost and wanted to read the continuation. I'm so glad I did because I was amazed at this retelling of Snow White. Taking the dwarf characters and instead having broken, hurting men as her rescuers was a very creative idea along with changing the love interest really made this a fresh, more humanly relatable story. I'll definitely read this one again!

I loved this retelling of Snow White. It's definitely the best one I have read. I love that it was more believable as there was no magic. I also liked the seven men who found her in the woods. Their characters were so much fun. I loved that Saphyre was so kind and thoughtful and observant when it came to the men of the keep. I loved reading of the things she did for each in return. I also love the mysteries intertwined throughout the story and that in the end they are all solved. I like that abo...more

I loved, loved, loved this book. I have never been fond of Snow White, but I loved this book.
The characters and story were thoroughly enjoyable. Out of all the versions of Snow White I have read, this version made the most sense and was the most enjoyable.
The book had enough details to make you think of Snow White occasionally, but was still it's own story.
Saphyre Snow is definitely a book I will read more than one time.

Kind of a sequel to Crimson Frost. I wasn't expecting a re-telling of Snow White with this one, but was pleasantly surprised. Not a lot happening, but I thought the interaction of the characters as Saphyre tries to individually help out the seven misfits (only 2 dwarves) was sweet.
Almost gave it 3 stars for the ridiculous name of one character - Roar! Seriously? Made me cringe every time I read it.

This was a really good spin-off of the Snow White fairytale. However, the 7 dwarfs were not cute and cuddly. Oh no! They were rather kind of scary – at first. Yet, they all were so very interesting to learn about; each had a story to tell. In this rendition you find out what happens to the royal family, allowing the evil queen to get control. Discovering her power was very cool too. I had so many favorite scenes in this book because there were a lot of characters involved. The story-telling and...more

I had a hard time finishing this book. The story is cute and told very well and it's a nice take on the Snow White story, BUT, I cannot stand Saphyre Snow!! I get that she's suppose to come across as sweet and caring and perfect, but to me, it just comes across like she's trying to think up nice things for each man of the Keep to get their approval, and like she has a need to feel powerful when she can "make them all better". Usually I love Marcia's books.. I'm a huge Marcia fan, but the heroine...more

Another captivating Marcia read! I love her westerns with such a literary fervor, but then she can turn around and write these medieval tales that completely send me swooning. I am not a huge fan of fairytale retellings, but this one is bewitching. (Can you tell I've been reading a lot of Marcia lately?) Soooo good. The ending had me all fluttery and butterflies-in-stomachy.

This book was hard to get into...to me it was very cheesy - just like Snow White (come on) 7 men in the forest, the princess being let go by a huntsman issued to murder her, the queen's conceit on her beauty, even the witch's apple! (whatever!). Not my favorite McClure book. Had I read this book of McClure first, I never would have picked up another McClure writing. Luckily, I know that she is better than this story. Sorry McClure fans. :)
Shelley
I really liked the story she tells- a fairytale based loosely on snow white. It was written in true fairytale fashion and had me smiling and laughing. She does tend to repeat her thoughts and words often, which bothered me, and her kissing scenes were way over the top in the description of them and their frequency. But It was a great ending, unlike Mockingjay! It was a fun read.

I love fairy tale retellings and this retelling of Snow White is the best one I've ever read. Loved this book! Another night of being up much too late to finish a book I didn't want to put down. Loved the compassion of the princess towards the 7 "dwarfs" in this story And of cource Marcia's version of a real "prince" leaves nothing wanting, he's much more than a pretty face that shows up at the end to simply kiss the princess.
Read a Crimson Frost first and then follow up with Saphyre Snow.

I think this book is one of the best I have read this year. I love this author. I enjoy the happy ending, type books. I am sure I will read this book again and again. I didn't really expect there to be an actual apple that poisons her, but I liked the little twist with it. I love all of Marcia McClure's Hero's. I am starting to think she writes these books just for me.
Kari
Let me start by saying that when I heard that this was like Snow White I did not want to read it! But I am so glad I did because I would have missed out on the pure AWESOMENESS of this book! LOVE, LOVE, LOVED it! I love the story's of the 7 men, and each of the "gifts" she would give them. And I LOVED Rogan! Do not hold back read this book!

Youl always find stories of Cinderella in all their varieties. This one is so great because it is the first adult version of Snow White that I have ever read. It was clean, humorous, and made Snydney White (Amanda Bynes movie) and Disney's version of SW seem childish.

I wanna see this one made into a movie.

It would be a great chick flick!
Kirstie
Not as good as the "Crimson Frost" for me, but still a wonderful retelling of a classic fairy tale. Snow White has never been one of my favorite princesses, but in this book she is great. This story gives her a personality and depth plus it's romantic where the classic never was for me! Fun read.

Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Marcia Lynn McClure grew up influenced by the reminiscent stories of rugged, rural Colorado farm life fascinatingly recounted to her by her parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts…tales of runaway buckboards, mule-drawn plows and dust pneumonia; verbalized images of stream-flooded meadows, frozen over in winter, where a child could peer through the crystal clear ic...more
